Out patient surgery. Everything ran smoothly from checking in the surgery and getting out! Nurses were great!

ER Provider is great. Wait times are the worst. If you have good insurance try elsewhere. Registration staff could be a little nicer and more knowledgeable. I waited 8 hours for them to glue my toddler sons cut he had over his eyebrow. Before being seen the lady at the front desk talked to me like I was slow because I said they either need to do stitch or glue and she said they couldn't glue because it was on his face. They ended up doing that so who is the wrong one now? Nobody has got in contact with me after sending my information.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband has been admitted here numerous times with each experience worse than the last. The last one was the the last straw. We will NEVER return to this hospital. If you have the option, go elsewhere. If you don't, ask to be transferred immediately. I hope Prime's takeover changes the culture and service of this hospital, but I won't hold my breath.

Accepted Insurance

Ascension Saint Joseph – Joliet works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients in outpatient rehab receive a variety of services based on their unique and evolving needs. Typical outpatient treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients recovering from alcohol and/or opioid dependency. Clients exiting inpatient treatment or those who are at an elevated risk of relapse may engage in more robust treatment, such as intensive outpatient (IOP) programming.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) enable clients to receive high-level care while living at home. Clients may choose to enter IOP instead of enrolling in inpatient care post-detox or they may transition from an inpatient rehab into IOP. Intensive outpatient treatment involves multiple therapeutic sessions per week and includes a combination of psychotherapy and addiction and recovery education. Many programs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and/or holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and massage.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Addiction treatment often begins with 24-hour clinical care in Illinois. This supervised setting is the best environment for detox.where medical staff can provide 24/7 supervision and responsive care as your body is cleansed of addictive substances. Doctors may prescribe antagonist and partial agonist drugs to counteract the effects of drugs or alcohol, or they may slowly taper down dosages of substances to end physical dependence on the drug.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
During the medically supervised detox process, licensed medical professionals monitor your vitals and administer medications meant to help alleviate the physical symptoms of withdrawal. The process can take between five and seven days, although the actual length depends on your individual needs. In most cases, medically assisted detox is partially, if not fully, covered by insurance.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

If you engage in cognitive behavioral therapy in Illinois, your therapist will work with you to change your thinking patterns. You'll learn how to recognize faulty thinking and develop skills to deal with stress without using substances.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Illinois typically involves keeping a diary to track actions and emotions. Your therapist will use this diary to determine what to focus on during each session. In addition to individual sessions, you'll also attend group meetings where you are trained in coping skills.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing in Illinois is person centered and collaborative. This method allows the therapist to come alongside the client to address the issue of ambivalence toward change. By listening and reflecting, the therapist helps the client see the need for change and commit to making changes.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment so you can address a traumatic experience. Your therapist helps guide you to understand your emotional, mental, and physical responses while developing healthier coping skills. This helps to improve your emotional resilience and ability to function in the community.

During couples therapy in Illinois, you may work on a variety of relationship challenges. Couples therapy can address topics such as finances, children, health, addiction, intimacy, external stressors, and family relationships. You'll develop tools to address these types of challenges in healthy ways.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Beware of the lab, they will claim in-network and send bill for out-of-network. CBC lab(routine yearly one) test cost is $3000 not $300.

The nurses and staff were very helpful supportive in an excellent team .the reason for the two stars is due to the theft and sticky fingers of the security personnel at the hospital .my child was admitted she had a small pocket knife on her the attending administration nurse said that they handed it over to security needless to say when I went to ask security for her property back they could not find it or located that it wasn't stolen they just couldn't find it how frightening is it that the fact that a hospital will lose a weapon even a pocket. knife can I ask for the phone contact for their security director so I can follow up on it and I was giving it the second shift supervisors number. The security guy in the little ER Booth also refused to give me any documentation stating that they misplaced it or lost it because it would be at a mission of legal guilt to make them liable. My advise if you are a loved ones is going to St Joe's hospital unfortunately make sure they don't have nothing valuable because their security will steal it. So for my reply to the Post I sent an email I also called the security at St Joe's hospital spoke to a supervisor who passed me on to a manager's voicemail so as of May 20th. I have not received a call back or an email reply by the person who said this is a very serious matter and they wish to discuss it.update 5.30.25 After a week-long investigation I received an email in the knife was considered contraband and properly disposed of but matter of fact is it would have been considered contraband if it was that night when my child came in I understand the hospital can't admit that they have the scientist armed security working there who are thieves and steal s*** from patients who are there for medical treatments

I am currently here now, came through the emergency room, let me tell you, these emergency department needs major changes, nurses move slow, front desk registration are slow, the whole process is slow, I don’t understand, I’m hearing nurses now complaining about their personal life when there are patients currently waiting behind the curtains. This is why their ratings are the way they are. Because it’s horrible. Go to silver cross or Bolingbrook.

Saint Joseph has been around a long time over the years they’ve done a lot of new improvements. As for hospitals, it’s really not a bad place. I haven’t had a bad experience here so I would recommend it if you’re close by obviously go to the closest place necessary.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear that you’ve had a positive experience with us and appreciate your recommendation. We’re committed to continuing to improve and provide the best care possible.

I was in the ER a few days ago with abdominal pain. On a pain scale, 8-9. I had lab work, xRays and an EKG done. I was sitting in the waiting room, for there were no rooms available. After 3 hrs. A nurse came out, handed me papers. I was like what's going on? She said, you're being released. Well, I NEVER got the results and it hasn't been added to me patients portal either. I do have a follow up with my Dr. I guess he will tell me the results. Also, a friend of mine has been to the ER several times. They sent her home with a viral infection which is contagious. Guess what! Everyone has gotten it. If Riverside Hospital wasn't that far away, I would go there.

Honestly if I could give this place zero Stars I would because there's always a problem every experience I've ever had coming here has been negative while some of the doctors themselves are very kind the overall atmosphere and the overall care is pretty lackluster it's just insane to me how ghetto this place is because it really is not to mention how rude some of the staff are and I understand that it gets busy and so they can't pull everybody right away however I don't understand that if somebody comes in with something serious they're still made to wait like at least try to check things to make sure they're okay For anybody who has to go to the hospital please be cautious about going to this one honestly my experiences are always really shitty here but this was like particularly probably one of the worst experiences I went in for palpitations and chest pain and I sat in the waiting room for an hour and a half before somebody even decided to do an EKG on me and whoever the nurse was in triage decided that he wanted to start an IV on me he kept trying in my hand so many times that my hand bubbled up with residual blood under the skin and then squirt it out everywhere and he proceeded to continue to try to get the needle in and I ended up almost passing out to which he said "you're telling me that you have all these tattoos and you're afraid of needles" I thought that was so disrespectful because yes I do have tattoos doesn't mean I can't be afraid of blood I don't typically bleed when I get a tattoo and when I have I also almost pass out so yes I got really light-headed and dizzy and my blood pressure dropped because of the sight of blood and i had to go in a wheelchair for 20 minutes because blood makes me queasy and there was just so much of it squirting everywhere and now it's been not even two full days and it looks like I punched a door the other hand that he tried to get a IV in that he also kept trying to force the needle in and out of is now having shooting pains and nerve pains and when I called and complained about it I was told that if I needed to come back to have it looked at I could and they were sorry for my experience to me this is so ridiculous and unacceptable I get that people are at different stages of learning at the same time don't be afraid to ask for help if you can't get something the first or second try please don't keep trying to force it because me being somebody who has a fragile immune system and being somebody who bleeds easy for whatever reason we don't know this is kind of insane and it's very painful this is why if I have the money to Uber to a different hospital I do because my experience with this one is always been negative

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. It’s important to us that every patient feels heard and cared for, and we regret that your visit did not reflect the standards we aim to uphold. Never will I ever take a family member here ever again!! Dr. Sumbare is just horrible! He cannot be reached by the medical staff...it literally took 12 hours just to reach him so my mother could be given her prescribed medication which is life threatening to go very long without. It is unacceptable! If you are going to be a doctor then take your job seriously!!!!! This hospital used to be better than this. No wonder the nurses strike!!!!!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We sincerely apologize for the experience you and your mother had. We take your feedback seriously and are actively reviewing the situation to ensure this does not happen again. Timely care and communication are critical, and we are committed to improving our processes to better serve our patients and their families.

When two Sundays ago, after hitting my elbow at work, thought I’d chipped the bone definitely swollen. Hard to move. I had a steady burning sensation. I get an x-ray and the doctor comes back and says nothing is wrong with your elbow. Take some Aleve and you’ll feel better. These guys are ignorant they just plain suck and they should be shut down. Here I am two weeks later with roughly the same pain and the same Burning sensation. While waiting for the x-ray results, which took over an hour, they said there are people at home reading your x-ray right now…And since I have insurance Through the state I believe that’s the reason they treat people like this. Full discrimination.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We take all concerns seriously, especially when it comes to patient care and respect. Your feedback will be reviewed thoroughly, and we are committed to addressing any gaps in service or communication. If you’re open to it, we’d like to follow up directly to better understand the situation and ensure appropriate action is taken.

I had a port removed back in May of 2024. I was put into a surgery room but not on the actual surgery table. I was left in the bed I was put in earlier and operated on it wedged against a surgical table while other medical ppl walked in and out. I was told I had paid everything in full as of last year. Today I receive a bill for $6900 saying it was never paid. It was never sent to my insurance for payment or to me.Why is this bill now surfacing when I never received it before?

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this situation. We are currently investigating the matter to understand why the bill was not processed correctly and why it has surfaced now. We will ensure that this issue is resolved promptly and that you receive the necessary support.
