About Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center

At Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center in Hazard, Kentucky, you can get both addiction and mental health services for you and your family. Clinics that offer both of these options also offer treatment for co-occurring conditions, which is common in many cases with addiction. I gathered a breakdown of many of their services, be they addiction or mental health, so let’s take a look at some of them here.

The ARH Recovery Clinic is essentially a transitional outpatient addiction clinic that can give you medication-assisted treatment if you’re trying to overcome any opioid addiction or alcohol addiction. I like that it offers you something of a bridge to the next stage of treatment.

As for their mental health services, they offer their Hazard ARH Psychiatric Center, which is just adjacent to the main medical center. Here, you can get help if you have any acute mental health issue, and they actually offer inpatient treatment at this unit.

Behavioral Health Care Access

If you need comprehensive behavioral health care, you can get that here too. They help with things like anxiety, depression, PTSD, personality disorders, and schizophrenia. They even have emergency mental health services if you have a mental health crisis and need to walk in immediately to get a service.

Some additional support services I noticed included their assertive community treatment, case management, legal advocacy, and suicide prevention services to make sure you’re taken care of in every aspect. Case management specifically is important because they can help you with your entire case from the beginning to the end, including helping you find work or the right resources once you leave their clinic.

ARH Hazard is horrible hospital. Our family member was admitted and not told exactly why. They left her without food for two days. The nurses get cranky because you asked for food and other needed items for your family member, but their sorry butts wont answer the call button when you press it. No one knows anything that is going on with their patients. They wont give their patients pain medicine and when you ask they look at you like you are dumb. They wont give them their prescription medication either. They switch Drs every day so they doctor doesn't really know what is going on. They try to start trouble between family members by lying in front of the patients. The cleaning lady was very kind. However they do not change your bedsheets with blood on them. And do not forget the roaches thats crawling around. Nasty. This hospital needs a redo. Of people and their attitudes. Don't get a job to help people if you do not want to fool with people. Oh and they also let my family member out the day after their surgery that should have required at least a 2-5 day stay. Better just not to even bother with this place.

I went this hospital for stomach issues and constipation. And they did a CT Scan and blood work and said that everything came back normal and I was fine. The next day I go to primary care and they say that I am impacted. This hospital doesn’t even earn 1 star at all . If u are in a bad situation and bad health u will find better luck some where else bc these employees are the laziest, unreliable, and Lying among all about ur health. Worst hospital ever.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Aftercare referral could include: long-term detox, inpatient or outpatient rehab.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Kentucky often starts with detox, then includes inpatient or outpatient treatment, and continues with aftercare support. Specific methods used during each of these phases varies, but often include individual and group counseling, medication, and recreational therapies.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Had an appointment for a xray and ultrasound at 10:30 am. At 11:30 I still hadn’t been called back so I asked the receptionist about how much longer it would be. She said at least 1 hour that they only had 1 person taking care of that today. My question is why schedule appointments if you know you can’t staff enough qualified people to take care of patients. I’ll go to Pikeville for now on. Be in and out before you get started with your procedure in Hazard. Someone needs to start with administration and go to the bottom and fix this hospital.

There is something wrong with the phone system. Heaven forbid you want to check on a loved one. Most phone options will disconnect you. If you are extremely lucky, you will reach the operator by dialing "1" and then "0, but 95% of the time you won't get through. This is extremely concerning to me.

My fiances father was in the hospital here. Don't ever try to call and get any kind of update because you probably won't. We've literally tried to call every extension option available because the line to the operator to try to reach the nurses station, just rings and rings and NOONE ANSWERS. We've called over 20 times now and nothing. When we do get through to another department, which has only happened twice, they say they can't transfer us... Very disorganized and ridiculous if you ask me.

Cardiac pt with an extensive cardiac hx, with a blockage in the LAD and continuous bouts of cp. waiting for stent replacement. Went to the Hazard ARH ER with chest pain. waited 2 1/2 hours in the lobby for a "bed". EKG and labs done in triage. 4 baby asa given while we sat in the waiting room. Portable cxr done while waiting. 2 hours later cardiac enzymes repeated. All this time other pts were taken in to the emergency dept. And yes I do under the concept of fast track. Don't know if this place has one or not. Someone did come out and talk to us after about 1 and 1/2 hours and did put him on oxygen after I ask for it. All this time never laid eyes on a doctor or nurse. No repeat vs. no repeat EKG since he wasn't on a monitor and was still having cp. He continued to have cp off and on. Finally was taken back to the emergency dept and placed on a monitor. Stated his labs were normal that they weren't concerned about him having a heart attack. He was on a bunch of cardiac meds that was either new or dosage was changed. No one and I mean no one was interested in finding out what his meds were. Never in my life as a medically professional with 30 yrs of Er experience have I every seen a lack of care or concern for a pt having chest pain. I know from experience that a pt with continuous bouts of chest pain can have a myocardial infarction even if his first sets of cardiac enzy are negative. His nurse didn't even want to place an IV in his arm because to quote her "I don't believe in unnecessary sticks. ". That line can save a pt in a code situation . It was obvious to me that Hazard ARH doesn't have or follow an appropriate chest pain protocol. Apparently this hospital doesn't know how to treat cardiac pts. We really like our cardiology group in Hazard. Too bad the hospital has gone down so bad. Learned our lesson will never use this hospital again after this visit.

Had an appointment scheduled for 9:45, waiting room had 1 person other than me. Dr isn’t there for the 2nd time. Asked to see someone else. Waited until 11:10 still haven’t saw the different Dr. ARH does not value your time. Also while in the room could over hear conversations in the hallway regarding HIPPA as well as hear the 30 minute conversation happening next door while I was waiting between Dr and patient.

It took me hours to get into the emergency room after being sent there by primary care when I dud get back there greatest Dr ever abd nurses.but due to a emergency at home I had to go I came back the next day and nobody was in the emergency room but still I sat there 2 half hours after being told I had a huge mass in my left lung that could kill me if reaching my heart and killing me but apparently suffering from depression I felt like I'm not important enough for them to even try and save me so I left..I just can't sit there in pain that long .I wasn't even a concern to them
