Absolutely disaster of a program. Poor management from Frank (the owner) on down. I was in their PHP program for 3 weeks while living at their sober living home. They operate under a 3-strike system. This review is written by a former client without so much as a single “strike.” I needed to preface my review by making that known so as to validate my experience. I was suddenly deemed “high-risk” by the clinical staff (ambiguous language which says very little for a reason,) and was given the choice to either join their residential program or leave. This was a disciplinary action taken without merit. I passed every UA (drug screening,) and breathalyzer given. If you or a loved one is considering treatment for substance abuse, seek help elsewhere. Keep in mind, staff heavily encourages these reviews from specific clients so take these reviews with a healthy amount of skepticism. Grant, their case manager and alumni coordinator and Zane, their Recovery Technician were the only bright spots. Structurally and culturally, this program isn’t beneficial to those getting an introduction to a lifestyle rooted in recovery. My experience was so awful that I’m engaging with the regulatory body (Health and Human Services Commission) that oversees their program. Spare yourself or a loved one the headache.

Accepted Insurance

Heartwood Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Residents of a sober living home in Texas reside at the halfway house with others who have agreed to abstain from substances and practice sober-living skills. The relationships and accountability formed here can help individuals strengthen their mental health and achieve long-term recovery. Residents share common spaces such as kitchens and back yards, share meals together, and share household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning.

Treatments

Alcoholism occurs when a person becomes physically and psychologically dependent on alcohol. Attending a professional alcohol rehab in Texas can provide customized intervention methods to address the physical, mental, and relational challenges of addiction.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Texas's specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs prioritize comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. These programs offer diverse levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, group work, and educational workshops help treat both conditions at the same time and give you the tools to sustain mental health and sobriety.

With a co-occurring drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder, you'll want to seek out a dual diagnosis treatment center. These specialized rehabs offer services to address both conditions at the same time, including 24/7 access to medical and mental health professionals. By treating both disorders at the same time, it drastically increases your chances of successful long-term recovery.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

Substance abuse treatment is available in Texas for anyone who's struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs usually provide a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment plan, and include evidence-based treatments, like therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful coping strategies, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with emotional regulation and stress.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image

Program For Men

Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Clinical Services

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

Peer support is an important aspect of group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction. As you and your peers share stories and encourage each other, it fosters a sense of community and belonging that helps you process your feelings and reduces the sense of isolation that is associated with addiction.

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Heartwood Recovery is an outstanding treatment center that truly goes above and beyond. From the moment I arrived, they made sure all my needs were taken care of—including things behind the scenes I had been stressing about. The staff handled everything with care and professionalism, which allowed me to fully focus on my recovery. The balance between structure and fun was perfect. Between pickleball, Monopoly, and regular outings, there were always ways to connect and unwind. At the same time, they are very serious about recovery, with a strong foundation in AA and the Big Book. The H&I panels and outside meetings were a huge part of my growth. Every clinician, staff member, and RA I encountered was compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping us succeed. And the food? Absolutely top-notch. I’m incredibly grateful for my experience at Heartwood.

Response from the owner

Heartwood Recovery is a top notch treatment center whose incredible staff really sets it apart from other places. Frank, the owner, was incredibly kind to let me come in despite still owing over $6000 towards my out of pocket max. The admissions process, lead by Taylor and Blake, was very smooth and I was advised to go to medical detox before coming in (which Wes gave me a ride to from my apartment). Upon arrival at Heartwood, Luke explained everything very thoroughly and made sure I had everything I needed to get settled in. My therapist and RA, Ty and Tommy, were both extremely knowledgeable and helpful and challenged me every day to grow as much as possible during my month long stay. The programming is well thought out and includes enough variety that it does not feel redundant. The clinical team does a great job changing groups up so even sessions which I expected to be somewhat repetitive turned out to be very useful. Grant did a fantastic job helping me with discharge planning and I can’t wait to get involved with the alumni community which is constantly planning fun, sober activities. Heartwood was very understanding about letting me use my phone on occasion to take care of some legal issues I have ongoing and they even took me to a friends funeral while I was a resident. I can’t say enough about the rest of the staff as well - all the clinicians are extremely helpful and are all willing to go through extra mile, even if they are not assigned to your caseload. Lastly, special thank you to Nick (Clinical Director/COO) for taking a few us running at Town Lake and for the coffee - that really meant the world to me. Oh and how could I forget?! The food is absolutely incredible. Thank you Chef Anthony and Chef Wren. Y’all do an incredible job and it does not go unnoticed.

Incredible experience. I’m not going to act like rehab is all fun and games.. it’s not.. especially when you’ve been removed from drugs and alcohol for the first time in a long time, things are going to be rough for a little while. However, treatment does not HAVE to be boring!! I certainly enjoyed my free time with monopoly, basketball, the gym, copious amounts of nicotine, and best of all - pickleball (amongst other activities)!!! Yes, there is a pickleball court on the property and many who went to heartwood will attest that the nearly evening pickleball tournaments were a joyous end to the days of counseling, therapy, clinical groups, and growing / developing our understanding and experience with recovery. Despite the exorbitant amount of delightful pastime material, there is a high level of focus on recovery and restoration. Do not be deceived into thinking you are going to summer camp as you will be shocked to find that the PRIMARY purpose of Heartwood is NOT to have fun, but to RECOVER. Having fun is only one of many parts of recovery. The recovery centric aspect and growing in connection with others is present all throughout the day. It helps that all the clinicians, RA’s, and (almost) everyone else on staff are recovered alcoholics / addicts. They set the example and lead us to power that granted them the hope and life they have today. The staff here is unlike any other place I’ve been to and I’ve been to quite a few treatment centers. I felt like they truly cared and acted extremely professionally in everything they do. I came into Heartwood penniless (lots of payday loan debt too), homeless, with a pending felony case. While inside of treatment, the staff ensured that I was able to keep in contact with my lawyer, my car was somewhere safe, I could review my debts, apply for and receive food stamps, and ensured that I had a safe place to go once I left residential treatment. They even offered and provided family therapy sessions. I’ve never done family therapy before this but I found it extremely helpful and therapeutic. It also helps that they share their resources and knowledge about recovery with the family (with the clients consent). Bottom line, they took good care of me and my family and helped me with my issues on the outside. Now, the food. The food is absolutely delicious. Like high end restaurant quality. In my previous rehab experiences, I would find myself daydreaming about what I’m gonna eat when I get out: Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Thai food, Indian food (YUM)!! but now that I’ve completed residential treatment, I find myself daydreaming about the food from heartwood!! Shoutout to chef Anthony and chef Wren. Two five star professionals with whom Gordon Ramsay would be extremely pleased with. Additionally, I felt like I got more out of the clinical team here than all my previous treatment experience combined. No joke. I’ve learned (and am continuing to grow in) how to be vulnerable, honest, and open. I literally used to feel mentally handicapped in these areas and thought I might never *get it*. Turns out, I just needed some guidance and direction. Yes, my willingness to follow direction and take suggestion helped. *You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink*. If I was a horse, they gave me a straw and led me to the Pacific Ocean. For the sake of that example, let’s pretend that horses can drink salt water. They’re just a good group of people who care about helping others and trying to do the next right thing. So yes, this place is top notch. I couldn’t recommend it more. Love the staff. Loved the food. Played lots of pickleball. Kept in touch with my family. Made a bunch of connections with many individuals who want to get sober and maintain their sobriety. Learned more about myself. Will continue to learn about myself alongside the clinical team, and am excited for what the future has to offer. Thank you Heartwood for facilitating an environment that began an experience that continues to enrich my physical, mental, and spiritual life and that of those around me.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Heartwood Recovery Center for my loved one's first experience in a recovery program. It truly is a gem! Our overall experience with Heartwood was a perfect 10 out of 10, and we would wholeheartedly recommend their program to any family or friend seeking help with recovery. My loved one spent 30 days in their inpatient program, followed by three weeks in their PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) outpatient program. From the very beginning, their entire team was compassionate and incredibly accommodating, especially given his special needs. The smaller, boutique, all-men environment was a significant factor in his success. He truly appreciated this setting, as it allowed for more individualized support where he never felt lost in the shuffle. He also formed meaningful relationships with other men in the program, and he's remained connected with them, which has been invaluable. We were also so grateful for Taylor, who made herself available late at night to walk us through all the options when we were making our initial decisions. And for someone highly motivated by food, Heartwood's chefs certainly didn't disappoint; he was definitely well-fed! I personally gained so much from the educational and healing experiences facilitated by Heartwood's clinicians and staff, particularly during the family weekend they hosted. It was an incredibly insightful experience. We loved how much time they spent outside the facility, attending meetings in different areas of the city and engaging in fun, sober activities. This really helped him integrate back into a sober lifestyle. The clinicians at Heartwood truly care about their patients and have been absolutely imperative to his journey to sobriety. They did an amazing job helping him identify underlying issues and provided him with essential tools to work on those challenges. We're especially grateful for all the time Chase spent with him during his stay.
