DO NOT ASSOCIATE YOURSELF WITH THIS FACILITY IN ANY MANNER! This place is a living nightmare and complete joke. Lori Fletcher, their Admissions Team is off-site, based in Florida promising patients over the phone things that are completely false. Immediately, whenever you arrive at the facility it is very evident that the staff is oblivious and trying to avoid minimal patient care whenever possible. While going through detox withdrawals, the nursing staff say Well just come down to the station to get anything you need , yet their door is closed and they could care less. All they want to do is check their boxes and get out of this place too as fast as possible. I had to order bottled water & vitamin water via DoorDash (over the solid steel gate) just to make it past the first 48 hours and avoid dehydration issues. Patients checked up on me / each other to make sure the group is still breathing and alive. Not a single staff member wears a badge and they constantly are rotating PRN because nobody wants to work in this environment, so it s basically a survive on your own situation. THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF MODERN HEALTHCARE FRAUD AND ABUSE, especially coming from a healthcare provider myself whom privately over paid them $6,900 for 5-6 days. STAY HOME or HOTEL or ANY PLACE ELSE.

UPDATE 2/17/25: Billing department has been contacted multiple times by me and my insurance provider over the last several days. No one will speak to us about it, they say the "person who can speak about it is not available". So who can we speak to about it then? My insurnce provider has no record of even a claim. PUBLIC WARNING: Do not agree to pay upfront. They will take money from families with sick kids.My experience with Briarwood was horrible as far as the one who is financially responsible. The admissions person ran my card for full payment up front $4500 for detox for my son for 6 days, and when my son left Briarwood after only 5 hours, they kept the the money. I have been trying to resolve the issue with billing department for the past week. I spoke to Blanca and Janice in the billing department. They assured me they would speak to upper management about helping me get a fair refund. The $4500 was to pay for 6 days of detox. Unfortunately not all businesses in the recovery industry are truly there to help people. They are stealing from families who are desperate to help their kids which is wrong. Also, when my son left AMA, they kept his belongings as they have a 4 hour waiting window before you can leave, which is totally fair and fine. However, when my son came back to get his phone at the 4 hour mark and could not get through the gate at the driveway and they explained to me later when I asked what happened that there is a sign which says you have to "call to be let in" beside the gate. Well he couldnt call without a phone so he climbed the fence as he needed his phone and belongings so he could leave. They told him if he came back they would report him for trespassing as he was not supposed to climb the fence. When I asked them what people are supposed to do if they dont have a phone to call to enter the gate. They said wait at the gate and we will see them on camera and come out and open it. I asked if they explained this to my son and they said no. I cant make this up. And on top of that, they kept $4500 for the 5 hours they had him. It was not even a full 24 hours. Which within that 5 hours he was there, all they did was drug test him , try to convince him to stay and told him to go lay down and rest. He was not even seen by a PA or a nurse. Maybe once you get in and agree to go the place is good service and a good detox, but DO NOT agree to pay for anything up front. They will keep your money. Proceed with caution on the front end.

Accepted Insurance

Briarwood Alcohol and Drug Detox – Austin, TX works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Peer support is an important aspect of group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction. As you and your peers share stories and encourage each other, it fosters a sense of community and belonging that helps you process your feelings and reduces the sense of isolation that is associated with addiction.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Together with an experienced trauma therapist, you work on healing emotional wounds from traumatic experiences within a trauma therapy environment. Your therapist will help you process the experience of the trauma, which promotes emotional healing and improves your overall mental health.

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we sincerely regret that you feel this way about your son's stay at Briarwood Detox. Our goal is always to provide high-quality care and support for individuals seeking recovery, and we understand how challenging this process can be for families.

Regarding your concerns about our financial policies, when a client admits to our facility, payment is required upfront for the full detox program. As explained during the admissions process, if a client decides to leave Against Medical Advice (AMA), our policy states that a refund may not be available. This is because resources, medical staffing, and accommodations are allocated immediately upon admission. However, we understand that each situation is unique, and we would be happy to further discuss your concerns. Please contact our billing department so we can review this matter further.

As for medical care, every client is seen by a nurse upon arrival, typically within the first 10 minutes of admission. After the initial evaluation, the attending medical doctor is informed, and our medical team meets with clients daily to ensure proper treatment and care.

Regarding the gate access situation, we sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. Our staff is available to assist individuals who need access, and we will review our procedures to ensure clearer instructions are provided to prevent similar situations in the future.

We value all feedback and take concerns seriously. If you would like to continue this discussion, please reach out to our management team directly so we can address your concerns in more detail.

Briarwood definitely surpassed my expectations. I've been to a detox facility before, unfortunately, so I can honestly say I wasn't looking forward to having to go through the process again. But, it was seamless. I was well taken care of. I truly thought that the staff cared about me and my well being from beginning to end. The facility was clean and the food was good. I was extremely comfortable and the atmosphere was laid back and conducive to my recovery. I'm coming up on 60 days sober and I don't think I'd even be alive right now if it weren't for this place.
