About Recovery Unplugged Drug & Alcohol Rehab Austin

Recovery Unplugged is a treatment facility located in Austin, Texas. They specialize in treating adults who struggle with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. The levels of care offered include medical detox, residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and traditional outpatient treatment. They are so different from many other treatment centers because, throughout the time you are receiving services here, they integrate music with your treatment plan. Volleyball courts, fully equipped music spaces, chef prepared meals, a fitness center and musical performances are some of the cool additional benefits to being in treatment with them. They accept Medicare, Medicaid and VA insurance.

Music plays a huge role in treatment, along with other holistic therapeutic approaches. Music therapy can help reduce anxiety, relax muscles, strengthen communication skills, boost self confidence and improve your immune system! Music is a form of expression and can encourage creativity and bonding with others.

Their treatment helps by bringing you another step closer to the life you can live. By incorporating coping skills, learning how to regulate your emotions and participating in group and individual therapy, you create a strong foundation for recovery.

Another cool alternative approach available here is being able to receive telehealth treatment. This gives you an opportunity to get the healing you want in the comfort and privacy in your own home. Although you are receiving services virtually, they can still provide medication management for you as well.

Beginning treatment can seem uncomfortable and a little frightening because you are unsure of what to expect, how you are going to feel and not knowing anyone. What sticks out to me the most is being able to also bring your furry friend with you! Nonaggressive cats and/or dogs are allowed. They must have their vaccines, shots and food. Your pet must also be away and safe from other individuals.

My son was a patient with Recovery Unplugged PHP and was staying in the house. While the program itself was fine (and thus, the two stars), the house was another story. My son has serious mental illness, which is what led to his substance use issues. Initially, he was fine while staying there. He liked the other residents, and he liked his counselor and the case manager. Then the trouble started. He called me, extremely distressed, because they had lost a full bottle of one of his psychiatric meds. Things can happen; that in and of itself was not my concern. The concern was the way they treated my son when he was upset about them losing it, saying something like "Hey, you've got to learn to live life on life's terms". Yes, great thing to say to someone who depends on his medications to get through life. How is a person supposed to be able to focus on recovery if his medications aren't being properly managed and then he is ridiculed for being worried about it? Then, when they did replace it with half a bottle that they purchased, he was told that his mother would have to pay for the other half. Um...no. YOU lost it, YOU pay for it - which they eventually did. I spoke with one of the nurses who reassured me that the issue was being taken care of. My son has long hair, which one of the house managers/techs told him makes him "look gay", which maybe isn't a big deal, but is definitely inappropriate. Then the most recent incident was when my son called me to tell me he had been to urgent care and was diagnosed with the flu. The doctor prescribed Tamiflu, but no one at the house picked up the prescription. This led to the final straw. He was sick, longer than he needed to be, and had a fever and was not able to go to programming. Because of this, they kicked him out of the program. He called me, extremely upset, because he's newly sober, has a fever and the flu, and has no money and no place to go. By this time, I was enraged. I called and spoke with Douglas, who proceeded to tell me that my son was the problem. That he was "toxic to the community and was cussing out the staff". I mentioned all the things that had gone on. I talked about him having the flu and how no one picked up the Tamiflu. He then went and spoke with my son and ended up apologizing to him because he did not realize what had been going on. Sadly, it was too little too late and my son left. He went to an airbnb. I have never, ever heard him so depressed and I was greatly concerned for his safety. Fortunately, he reached out to sober friends who are helping him out until he can get into sober living. All of this has been so painful, as if it isn't hard enough to live with mental illness and addiction. We had high hopes for Recovery Unlimited and it has been a huge letdown. I hope the management makes some changes in the staff at the house. The people running the place need to have a little compassion and some people skills.

Accepted Insurance

Recovery Unplugged Drug & Alcohol Rehab Austin works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

This place has REALLY gone down hill. They just had 5 clients all go to Dallas together and unfortunately all of them died from an overdose. How are you supposed to trust that the people you love will be taken care of here after finding out that information? Rehab is the one place you should be able to trust to be a SAFE place for your children, spouses, brothers and sisters etc. They also don’t send off drug tests for levels to save a few bucks which can be extremely harmful for clients who actually want to get sober but how are they supposed to be held accountable if they won’t do something as standard as sending UA’s off to a lab for levels to make sure there isn’t any kind of false positives or to make sure people have stopped using. Sending these tests off keep EVERYONE accountable, not just the clients. This place used to be the golden standard but now all they care about if being able to run your insurance for the most they can. I would save your money and take your loved ones somewhere else, well if you want them to have a real chance at actually being able to get better. I couldn’t be more disappointed in how my loved one was treated here. There are just much better rehab facilities here in Austin. Looking at some of the other reviews I’m not alone with being disappointed in how this program is being run. Just makes me so sad because this place used to be awesome.

I'm going on 80 days sober because this place helped me. I loved the Trauma inpatient program. PHP was okay, I felt like it was lacking counseling and also I felt like it was non stop getting in and out of busses. You'll get your phone on lunch and like 90min on Saturday which is nice. But on Sunday when you should be calling friends and family you don't get your phone. The house on 1st street stayed nasty. I brought it up to the techs several times and nothing changed. I would give this place 5 stars but the aftercare completely sucked. I had no idea how sober houses worked or how to get into one. I had to stress out my final day because I had nowhere to go. Also I had no idea how to get a scholarship or even fill my meds... im in their IOP program currently and I'm enjoying it. Aftercare definitely needs to be worked on. I've also talked to many people after they got through with PHP and they had the same opinion. Thanksz that's my Ted Talk.

I am so grateful for Recovery Unplugged. For 7 years I truly believed I wouldn’t be able to beat my Opioid Addiction. I had relapsed on other drugs I had been clean off of for 6 years, as well. With their help and determined team of Techs, Counselors and other patients, I have now began my new life again sober. They offer a full team of medical professionals to make sure you’re being treated appropriately. The food while in Residential was top notch. I was surrounded by other women and men which most had a likeminded hope and faith to sobriety. I highly recommend their program to anyone struggling with addiction or alcoholism. I thank you guys so much for supporting me!! Special thanks to Jessica, Cooper, Mike, Ben, TJ, Whitney, Robert, Brad & basically the whole rest of the staff at Res. I love you guys & thank you!
