Choosing Casa Recovery was truly the best decision I have ever made. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, supported, and genuinely cared for. The staff go above and beyond in every possible way — their compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail are unmatched. They truly see each client as an individual and tailor their approach to meet your unique needs. The level of care here is exceptional. Every therapist, case manager, and support team member works together to create an environment that feels safe, encouraging, and filled with hope. The program is thoughtfully structured, balancing therapy, education, and holistic wellness in a way that promotes real, lasting change. What stood out most to me was the sense of community — not just from the staff, but from the other clients as well. Everyone is on their own journey, yet the support and understanding that flow through this place make healing feel possible and real. Casa Recovery doesn’t just help you get better — they help you rediscover yourself. I am deeply grateful for my time here and for the people who made such a positive impact on my life. If you’re considering treatment, look no further. Casa Recovery is a place of true healing, and it changed my life for the better.

My name is Alexa P. and I have been a patient at casa for 5 months. The best things about this program were the breathwork with Sandy, and some of the staff members. The breath work was the most helpful thing for me. This review is about the house mangers and mangers at this program which caused me a lot of distress. However, the owner Sean, director of operations Dom, and house manger Kat were all mean and rude toward me for no good reason, which started from them not caring at me as a patient and caring about other patients more. I felt they could have offered me a better housing option but decided to stick me with the house manager Kat to watch me 24/7 which was unfair and cruel due to me being vulnerable at the time. Dom would watch me outside of the bathroom in a weird intimidating way. I felt mistreated. I also felt taken advantage of in a lot of ways. Kat was mean to me but very nice to my friend and favored her and let her do what she wanted but made me get in trouble for the same thing. Then one time when I burped she started speaking for me and saying “excuse you,” to shame me. Really unprofessional. I showed up daily without fail for 5 months and worked hard.Toward the end, even though I did all of that, they forced me to leave because I broke a rule by burning incense when other girls in the house did the same thing, including smoking and reeking of cigarette smoke. I was abused by another housemate at the Morena house and they took her side and made me leave, giving me no notice. Kat and Dom treated me like trash telling my house manager to leave my things on the street and leave me there and to not be too nice to me upon dropping me off and Kat said if the girl didn’t do it soon enough she would come come there and do it, knowing I didn’t like being around her which I also found abusive and crazy. I was homeless that night and on the street for the first time in my life which was distressing and traumatic. I am very upset, shocked and appalled with how this program treated me and do not recommend it. I feel they are just about the money and chose the new girl over me who found a problem with me anither housemate, they could have moved her to their other property but decided to just throw me out. I’m so angry at the way I was taken advantage of in the system. Kat and Dom put me in a distressing situation by leaving me outside on the street to be homeless for 2 days with ALL OF MY BELONGINGS when the staff at casa knew about my financial situation, and familial situation with my family who I have been reliant on. I deserved more respect. I felt Kat’s actions were hateful to encourage someone to do that to me. It was petty and cruel. My best advise is: do not get yourself in this system. It’s hard to get out of. They were wrong about the situation between the other patient and I who was the aggressive one with me. They just were looking for any reason for me to leave so she could be more at peace. That’s why when the staff called me in for a meeting they said I was “viewing the situation from a lense of trauma” and gaslighted my reality. If they had a good solid sense of who people are they’d know this woman was in the wrong…I am now at a much better place. There are much better places out there where I can be myself and not be gaslighted or treated like a prisoner followed around the parking lot. Glad i got out of there and my therapist siding against me for no reason. I have found a much better treatment center.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. For readers’ clarification, Casa Recovery is an outpatient program offering partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment for mental health and dual diagnosis. The experiences described in this review relate primarily to supportive living residences, which are operated by a separate company and are not required in order to participate in the Casa Recovery program.

That said, we value and carefully consider all client feedback, as it helps us continually evaluate and improve our program and the vendors we work with. While we cannot confirm or deny anyone’s treatment history due to privacy protections, we can speak to our organizational standards. Casa Recovery is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused environment. Our leadership and clinical teams take concerns about staff conduct seriously and review feedback thoroughly as part of our quality improvement process.

We are proud of the compassionate care provided by our team and the consistently positive feedback we receive from the majority of our clients. We wish this reviewer well in their continued recovery journey.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Aftercare refers to any subsequent interventions that follow the initial treatment. In the case of addiction treatment, it will often refer to the additional support that is given following release from the residential part of the program. This may occur in the form of support groups, booster sessions, counseling, or follow-up meetings. The aftercare can be in the form of debriefings, or it may involve teaching new skills and coping strategies.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Dual diagnosis refers to people who suffer from another major disorder besides their dependence on drugs or alcohol, whether it is an eating disorder or bipolar disorder. Other co-occurring disorders include depression, anxiety, and trauma. Whatever the COD is, there is evidence that patients have a much better chance at long-term recovery when both problems are treated at the same time.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CMT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Nothing soothes the soul and encourages self-discovery like music and art. With weekly art sessions, you’ll amaze yourself as you develop a restored sense of empowerment. Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Re-establish confidence and a sense of achievement as you meet and exceed fitness goals with their personal trainers up to three times a week. In addition, their equine and wilderness therapies engage your whole body and mind. Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional “talk therapy” by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing. Luminance Recovery offer experiential groups in surfing and rock climbing.

Sometimes patients experience traumatic events and these events overwhelm the physiology and neurobiology of their bodies resulting in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which can include symptoms of nightmares, flashbacks, reckless behavior, and extreme efforts to avoid thoughts or feelings associated with the traumatic events. Often times substance abuse begins or is escalated after a traumatic event in an effort to self-soothe but in order for complete recovery from substance abuse to be possible, these experiences need to be resolved and processed in a safe, therapeutic environment. Luminance is pleased to offer EMDR therapy to clients with PTSD symptoms or unresolved traumatic experiences as apart of their service offerings. EMDR is well-researched, proven therapeutic modality that works by creating new neural network pathways associated with the traumatic events via bilateral stimulation between each hemisphere of the brain either through eye movements, tapping, or hand-held vibrating pulsars.

Their licensed therapists create a safe space where you’ll regain a sense of belonging and create meaningful connections. Some classes include Group Therapy, Trauma, Men’s Issues, and Women’s Issues. Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members

Luminance offers one-on-one sessions, one to two times a week. You’ll receive personalized treatment in a safe space, learn to forgive yourself and others, and restore your dreams and sense of self. Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Eat restorative, fresh lunches served by the Luminance chef and culinary team. Treat the mind and body by selecting your own breakfast foods and taking turns making meals for the whole house. Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

They treat trauma as well as co-occurring addictive and compulsive disorders. Their goal is symptom relief, so patients can rebuild their life and establish a sense of security and the ability to develop healthy relationships. Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
