My spouse was admitted on a Monday for a stroke and discharged on Tuesday with no use of his arm & hand by being rolled out to his car and left. No one there to discharge him too! Fell on the hospital with his bed alarm not on, no skid socks on, side rails down & not call light on reach!! Came home..fell x 5 in 24 hours with EMS taking him to another hospital. From there had to go to Rehabilitation Hospital!! Horrible experience with complete patient neglect on every level!!

Expecting mothers please go anywhere else. We wanted to give this maternity unit the benefit of the doubt. I birthed my baby there, the nurse who helped me most of my time there could not answer my questions, seem to be new and untrained, or at the least she should’ve had someone there watching over her to make sure things were done right. When my temperature was checked, it was done without the plastic Protective cover , I was wiped down ( with a thick sandpaper like sponge ) after just birthing a baby, I was consistently given wrong information about various different things that I asked about. There are way too many things that went wrong for me to list here. In the end, I have my baby home and his safety is the most important thing. But honestly, I think any other hospital Would have been a Better experience .

Accepted Insurance

Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients who are exiting detox or stepping down from intensive inpatient care typically transition directly into outpatient treatment. Outpatient programs are designed to allow clients to either re-enter or remain in their communities while receiving robust, personalized care. Many facilities offer evening, night, or weekend services to accommodate clients' home and work schedules. The most common outpatient treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Clients receiving treatment at an inpatient rehab facility are typically in early recovery or are at heightened risk of relapse. Clients in inpatient care remain at the facility for the duration of their program, enabling them to focus solely on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive psychotherapy, often including group and family counseling as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills education is another common service. Many rehabs also offer evidence-based holistic therapies.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs offer a complete continuum of care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are predicated on the idea that addiction disease is a chronic condition prone to relapse and warranting continuing care. Clients collaborate with their care team and case manager to access the specific rehab aftercare services they need to promote their sustained sobriety. Peer coaching, relapse prevention services, career counseling, and 12 step program induction are common in these programs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive drugs and alcohol from your body. A team of licensed medical professionals will look after you 24/7 to monitor your health, help minimize discomfort, and provide medications if necessary to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms. This process is typically the first step in your recovery and may take around 5-7 days, although length will depend on your individual needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Clients who receive cognitive behavioral therapy in North Carolina typically attend five to 20 sessions. During this time, they work with their therapist to learn healthier patterns of thinking, which can help them change their behavior related to substance use.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

During nutrition therapy in North Carolina, you'll work with a nutritionist to develop a dietary plan. Medical professionals will provide input based on your health needs. You'll learn to create goals for nutrition and develop the skills you need to meet them.

You can participate in creative arts therapy in a variety of settings. Options include medical institutions, rehab facilities, and therapists' offices. Sessions are held in individual and group formats. Types of therapy include music, drama, dance, and painting.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I took my daughter there due to frequent seizures. We entered ER and my daughter sat in chair and had a seizure while I was checking her in. We were the only one there at the moment. The triage male nurse did the most invasive chest rub and yelled she was NOT having a seizure! From 10:15 until the time I left around 6 pm I requested a patient advocate for my daughter and no one ever showed! We did speak with Head Nurse adm but never a patient advocate! The attending PA was very condescending ! She was not treated with dignity and respect and neither was I. What a nightmare!

We were visiting this hospital on 07/25/2025. Around 1:00–2:00 pm through the emergency, I was waiting to see the doctor in room 1 with my kids, and an old security man came and said the kids couldn't be in the room with you, and I told him the nurse told me I could have my kids, but the security man said NO. And we were leaving room 1 without having been seen by the doctor, and the security man said to me, We shouldn't be here at all." Racist security man in the public hospital.

I will never forget this hospital. The ER that is. In 2012, something was wrong with my truck while I was traveling and I had my three kids and dog with me. It was the middle of the night. Seeing the sign for the hospital off the highway. I thought it was a safe place to at least call someone. I went inside with my kids and told the male nurse at the front I needed help. That I thought my car was about to break down and if he could get me a number to a tow truck place. I asked if they had a cafeteria so I could get my kids something to eat. He pointed me in the way of the café and we went there and bought something to eat. I came back to get the number of the tow truck and he asked me if I knew where I was. I told him yes, in north Carolina some where. He looked at me and asked could he take my vitals. I told him no there was no need. He said if I didnt he was going to have to call cps. So of course i obliged. What I experienced at this er was Erie, and when I ordered my medical records years later they were completely false notes of things I never said. And inaccuracies. Beware of this hospital.

I came to this hospital visibly sick, with a sore throat, ear pain, and clear signs of infection — including redness, swelling, and pus that I could clearly see myself with a flashlight. The provider I saw, however, claimed he didn’t see anything. No inflammation, no redness, no concern. Either he was deliberately ignoring what was obvious, or he’s completely unfit to assess even basic symptoms. It genuinely felt like he wanted me out of the room as quickly as possible, or worse, like he was trying to sabotage patient care. At one point, I even wondered if he was trying to get reassigned or promoted elsewhere by purposely tanking his performance. To make things even more absurd, he casually suggested tuberculosis as a possible diagnosis — but then refused to perform a sputum culture, refused to do blood work, and refused to offer any kind of treatment. He didn’t escalate my case, didn’t refer me to anyone else, and when I explained that I couldn’t do x-rays due to previous bad reactions, he offered no alternatives. Instead, he just told me to “go see someone else,” like I wasn’t his problem. I made it clear I had environmental exposure — hiking dunes, cleaning up soil and debris at a friend’s house that hadn’t been ventilated in years, with visible rat droppings and wild animal activity. These are well-known risk factors for zoonotic and fungal infections, yet he showed no curiosity, no urgency, and no medical initiative. I asked for basic, reasonable symptom management: dye-free Tylenol, antifungal medication, a steroid, or an inhaler. Any of these would have been appropriate and easy to provide. Instead, I left with nothing — not even basic compassion. At one point, he even asked if I had tooth pain — something completely irrelevant to why I came in. That question felt like a clear sign he wasn’t listening at all. My symptoms began around June 24, and by the time I came in on July 7, they had only gotten worse. This was medical negligence, plain and simple. When a patient shows up with a reasonable concern for infectious disease after known environmental exposure — and they’re visibly sick — you don’t brush them off. You listen. You investigate. You treat the person standing in front of you. Had I known I had the right to request a different doctor, I absolutely would have. But when you’re sick and trying to advocate for yourself, that’s an impossible position to be in. This experience left me feeling dismissed, degraded, and worse off than when I arrived. I hope this facility re-evaluates how it screens and supervises providers, because what I experienced was not healthcare — it was avoidance, negligence, and a risk to patient safety.
