About Open Door Mission

Open Door Mission is a substance use disorder treatment facility that provides services to men who are homeless in Houston, Texas. The residential facility has been helping individuals in the community recover from addiction for over 70 years. Some of the treatments that may be a part of your care include counseling for co occurring mental health disorders and family support services.

Proven Treatments to Heal From Addiction

The residential program will last around four to five months. Open Door Mission will use proven treatments to help you heal from addiction, including life skills training, individual counseling, and group therapy.

The main goal the facility wants to achieve is helping you remain sober and get reintegrated into the community again. Counselors will work with you in developing relapse prevention strategies to help you avoid using substances in the future.

Educational Services To Move Forward in Life

Patients can receive assistance with their education through a variety of services that are offered. Some of the educational programs available are the GED program and the Digital Literacy Certification program. The organization also partners with SER Jobs Training and Houston Community College to provide vocational training and certifications after a patient graduates.

Transitional Living For Continued Recovery

Open Door Mission desires to see their clients get to a point where they can have an independent lifestyle after they complete the residential program. The facility has a transition program where clients can stay for up to six months as they work, save money and get used to their new sober lifestyle.

In addition to the transitional living program, you will also have access to the alumni support program. You’ll receive access to support groups, opportunities for fellowship with alumni, and ongoing career guidance.

The residential facility is located just 20 minutes outside of downtown Houston. Some sober activities that you can consider doing outside of your treatment sessions include visiting the Houston Zoo or going for a walk at Hermann Park.

Finally made time to post this review. I m incredibly disappointed at Open Door Mission . What is the mission part? I referred a family member to Open Door and after only a month he was unjustly kicked out of the program for eating a pudding for God s sake. After getting my family member s version of the story he said the pudding was part of the gifts he and others had received from other churches they visited with Open Door during the Christmas holidays. What seemed clear to my husband and I is that Open Door finds any excuse to kick people out of their program to make room for more and claim they are welcoming a certain amount of people every year. It was disheartening to hear they claim to be a Christian organization who receives people like our family member who desires to be supported in strengthening their relationship with the Lord. They are truly not representing the mission of Jesus on Earth. They are dishonest and do not deserve all the donations from the mega churches in Houston including the one we attend. We will speak to the pastor of our church about our incident as they had originally recommended Open Door Mission.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The open door mission is such a great place. they will take a man who is willing and wanting to change they're direction in life and give them the opportunity to do so.they put a roof over your head, will put clothing on your back and make sure you don't go hungry.the rest of the work is up to you.they will help you get back on God's team.

This place is a cult. There are drugs and alcohol there. Brainwashing at its best. Making you believe there is only one way to get and stay sober. Most of the staff are arrogant and self centered. Supposedly its a muti millione dollar rehab while the higher ups drive brand new expensive cars while the food is stale sub sandwiches and slop.
