I lived here back in 2003-2004. The place itself is huge and provided us with lots to do throughout the year. They also took us on a variety of off campus field trips that were always a blast! To this day, I have maintained friendships with people including staff/teachers that I will forever cherish. Likewise, for it being such a rough time in my life, my experiences here, (for the most part) helped get me through it.

She was there for me from the very beginning and made me feel welcome, comfortable, and right at home. She genuinely cared about my recovery and always took the time to listen, encourage, and support me when I needed it most.
Her kindness, compassion, and dedication helped me believe in myself and stay focused on my recovery journey. Knowing that someone truly cared made all the difference. I don’t even know where to begin, because “thank you” doesn’t feel big enough for what this place has done for me.
I came here at one of the lowest points in my life, unsure of who I was or if I even had a future worth fighting for. I stayed 45 days, and in that time, something in me completely shifted. This wasn’t just about getting sober—it was about learning how to live again.
The staff here didn’t treat me like a number or a problem to fix. They treated me like a human being who mattered. Every single person I encountered—from the counselors to the support staff—showed genuine care, patience, and understanding. They met me exactly where I was, even on my hardest days.
The program gave me tools I actually use in real life, not just while I was there. More importantly, it helped me reconnect with something deeper—my sense of purpose, my spirituality, and my will to keep going.
What really stands out is the support system. Even after completing the program, I don’t feel alone. That sense of community is so strong that I’ve chosen to stay in the area and continue building my life here.
Today, I’m 60 days sober. My mind is still clearing, but I feel something I haven’t felt in a long time—hope.
This place didn’t just help me get sober. It helped save my life.
If you’re on the fence about going, please hear this: you are worth it, and places like this can truly change everything.

I went to inpatient at Menninger on the 27th of march and came out a week later. My sleep is amazing, my anxiety has been HEALED. My diagnosis was reached in a matter of 5 days and I had a team of personal psychiatrists and doctors attending to my mental and physical health. uhm i don’t really leave reviews as you can tell i made this fake account for food reviews. but i just can’t see this place being so badly rated. i can go on and on about a lot of horrible treatment from other hospitals i’ve been through. and although i can’t remember the first time i was here, i’ll definitely will remember the last time. i had turned 18 in there and was moved into the adult unit. and the staff helped me feel so much better than i ever did in that time of my life. i had gotten a cake, was sung to, and felt so much love and care from the staff and patients. i’m not sure but i think i met the man who owned this place. he immediately helped me calm down and showed immense care for me even though i was being erratic bc i had to be near said abuser who only came to steal my belongings from the police. but idc that place made me feel safe. safer than i ever been before. even if it was just for a week. also they had the best chefs there. never seen a place put so much love and effort into the food the patients were getting. <3

Living in Barcelona Spain now. As I am sitting in my room my mind took me back this place. OPEN DOOR MISSION. I had just got to the states in 1999 I was living on the streets cuz I had no family no friends, I was only 16 years of age. This place was awesome. I speak no English but the pple there by that time made it super easy for me to communicate. We used to celebrate worshipping in Spanish with fellow brothers that used to visited on Thursday and sundays. To the stuff and everyone who is part of ODM thank you y’all so much for everything that you guys do for the pple and the community.

You want to find God and be in a fellowship of friends that are really wanting to change and are focused on that path? Then ODM is your place.
Change is never easy and it is hard to change and break away from the thinking errors you've survived on all your life. But people change. People change when the pain not to change exceeds the pain to change. It takes a real man to accept the facts that what you're doing isn't working.
If you ask for admission, you'd better be ready to change. Leave all those thinking errors at the gate. If you think you just need a place to crash, then this placement isn't right for you, and that will be obvious and you probably won't make it.
Open Door Mission is an excellent program for those who want change in a faith based setting. Doesn't get any better than this folks!
