I was sexually harassed, a man was allowed to sleep on the women’s unit side and was allowed to be around during hygiene time. He also was allowed to scream directly in my face while a tech stood there just watching. Some of the nurses and techs were absolutely amazing. But there is no therapist. There is no one available to sit and talk to except each other. I honestly walked out with more trauma than anything. I cannot believe this place is allowed to handle such fragile individuals. Please do not send your children or family here!

Avoid at all costs. This facility should not still be running. The building is filthy, and they expect you to walk around in socks. They don't even provide shoes when you go out into the courtyard for outside time. There's no soap in the restrooms either, so I guess everybody is walking around with potty hands. The showers have flies in the drains and mold on the curtains. It was just disgusting. During the day, they lock everybody out of their bedrooms and force them to socialize in a small bright room with hard plastic chairs and a single TV. For hours on end, there is nothing to do besides talk with your fellow inmates- sorry, I meant "patients"- or color with crayons and argue about what to watch. I repeatedly experienced sensory overload in that stupid room. I asked repeatedly if I could take even a few minutes in my quiet bedroom to breathe, and they bluntly refused. I cried a lot with my fingers jammed in my ears because I was so overwhelmed. Not once did any of the staff try to help or comfort me. I don't know how to go about describing the staff. There were a few who were genuinely decent people who tried their best to help as much as they could. Most of them, though, treated us patients like we were a lesser species. They were rude, dismissive, and they talked about us like we weren't sitting right there. Basically, this place is more like an asylum or a jail than a place of healing. If you're looking for compassion and help, then you need to look elsewhere.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

When participating in an inpatient rehab program, you'll reside at the treatment center for the duration of the program. Your housing and meals are provided, allowing you to focus on your recovery without outside triggers, stressors, and other distractions. You'll receive daily addiction counseling, drawing on various psychotherapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer complementary holistic therapies, such as yoga, meditation, or animal therapy, and creative arts therapy.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

As a flexible option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is tailored for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can include daily therapeutic sessions and services such as relapse prevention and medication management. Based on your needs, PHP treatment duration can average 90 days and require a minimum of 20 hours of commitment weekly. While a partial hospitalization program typically requires a commute, telehealth may be available. PHP treatment costs can vary but are often covered by most insurance.

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

If you engage in cognitive behavioral therapy in Illinois, your therapist will work with you to change your thinking patterns. You'll learn how to recognize faulty thinking and develop skills to deal with stress without using substances.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Illinois typically involves keeping a diary to track actions and emotions. Your therapist will use this diary to determine what to focus on during each session. In addition to individual sessions, you'll also attend group meetings where you are trained in coping skills.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Without nutritional balance, you can't achieve overall health. Nutrition therapy restores this balance by providing healthy meals and teaching you how to choose foods that support recovery. It is an important part of most rehab programs in Illinois.

I am absolutely frustrated and appalled by my experience at The Pavilion. This place is NOT the right fit for anyone needing mental health support. The unprofessional attitude of the staff was shocking, and their rudeness made the entire experience feel debilitating, as if my loved one were a prisoner rather than a patient seeking help. Unless you’re in a crisis that meets their narrow criteria like being suicidal or exhibiting severe anger issues you’ll find yourself completely overlooked. It's disheartening to see how little effort they put into truly helping those who are struggling, which is shocking for a mental health facility. I can’t believe I didn’t check their ratings sooner they have a mere 2.1-star review for a reason! They clearly don’t care about the well-being of their patients. Despite repeatedly informing them about my daughter's severe dairy allergy, they had the audacity to try to serve her dairy multiple times! The blatant disregard for her safety was beyond careless and infuriating. If you’re considering admitting someone to The Pavilion, please think twice. There are far better options that respect patients and genuinely strive to facilitate their healing. This so-called “care” felt more harmful than helpful, and I strongly regret our choice to go there.

I was taken good care by the doctors, nurses and well monitored by the technicians in Pavilion. I also received a lot of love and support from my peer patients. I appreciate them a lot! I will take good care of myself from now on.

Undercover on a private account but my stay was horrifying I’m actually pretty sure I walked out with more trauma then I came in with, the building is disgusting, unkept and should be shut down, my first day there happened to be at night it was late I sat in a room for like 2 hours but the lady was kind anyways I wish I knew that was probably the only kind lady I would meet, my inmates I mean piers that I shared a room with were normal like me honestly we got along well I was given a phone call telling my mom to do the five day thing and on my meeting with the doctor he threatened me stating he will take me to court and make me stay longer if I tried to do so, I was in there for od on Tylenol but it was more of a impulsive decision I regretted doing, anyways every day I stayed there a girl who was much bigger and taller would try to come inside my room and choke me not my roommates it was always me which was weird cause I never even talked to her, I thought everything was odd because I had begged the staff to move me and it took her almost choking me for them to finally listen to me because on the third day my roommates were both gone now and back at home and I was in that huge room alone and the girl tried to choke me first off all why are the doors of a mental facility open at night aka the time people usually have mental episodes anyway? So weird the staff was so mean and always tried to be your friend instead of helping you it genuinely felt like I was in highschool where the teacher tried to be cool and pick favourite instead of doing there job, I was constantly belittled about how I ended up in the facility stating I’m just extra when genuinley they don’t even know me so why are you comparing peoples lives and deciding who has it bad like what? Anyways it was a disgusting building they wouldn’t tell me what medications they were forcing me to take everyday and my earring got infected and I waited four days until someone finally was kind enough to treat it FOUR days of my ear gushing puss until someone finally heard me and decided to treat it, don’t recommend to my enemies really it was traumatizing I was choked, neglected, belittled, treated inhumane and the other girls were all just as scared as me probably, they had a little five year old boy in the room with us who had anger issues but honestly he was so calm, he sat and watched people have mental episodes screaming, throwing stuff, shaking, bleeding and if it traumatized me imagine how much it traumatized him? Screw this place I hope you get shut down and then burnt to the ground.
