About Saddleback Recovery

Saddleback Recovery in Costa Mesa, California is an accredited alcohol and drug rehab and detox center that serves adults, regardless of gender. Based in beautiful sunny Orange County, five minutes from Escondido, this center helps countless individuals overcome their addiction to drugs and alcohol.

They provide medical and clinical assessments for all and are determined not to take a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment since that’s not how addiction works. These assessments are key in establishing individuals’ unique needs and preferences to better personalize their treatment, for more effective results.

Individualized treatment plans see clients through their recovery journey, detailing each step and setting goals for clients to achieve along the way. Many clients might begin with medication assisted detox to get clean. A common first step, this phase is overseen by experienced staff to help make clients as comfortable as possible through what is notoriously one of the more difficult steps in the recovery journey. Medication prescribed helps clients manage any uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and helps prevent relapse.

Once clients are stabilized then the goal is to make them as comfortable as possible as they transition to the next stage of their treatment. The team here expertly guide clients through individual counseling sessions to help them get to the root of their addiction and really unpack some of the trickier emotional elements that led them to turn to substances.

The center’s holistic approach really aims to help clients get to the underlying cause of their addiction while supporting them with any concurrent disorders or mental health conditions they may also be struggling with. This is all done within a peaceful, quiet 12-bed co-ed recovery setting that promotes healing and wellbeing. They boast a 2:1 staff-to-client ratio for optimal care and offer a range of therapy styles, including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as expressive art therapy, and music therapy.

They also provide addiction education, support for trauma, grief, and loss and sessions covering recovery principles, refusal skills, relapse prevention and practical sobriety tools. Other activities include meditation, mindfulness, yoga and nutritional cooking classes.

Here s the corrected version: I am an Interventionist based in Florida who had a 12-hour notice for a crisis intervention. We knew we wanted to go to the West Coast for treatment. I reached out to Saddleback, and Katy and Jack were on top of my immediate needs from the start. I had a tough client who was a significant AMA (Against Medical Advice) risk. The mere fact that he stayed through detox before transferring to the next level of care is a testament to the staff and the quality of their facility. They will definitely be my primary contact for detox needs in their area.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy is included in alcohol and drug addiction treatment to focus on engaging you in healthy activities that reduce your cravings and improve your overall health and well being. When you participate in group sports, art, or nature walks, you develop new interests and find a meaningful way to spend your time and reduce your cravings.

The goal of creative arts therapy in California is to encourage growth and transformation. It can be used in individual and group settings with both children and adults. Options include movement, music, and painting.

100% recommend!! Professional. Kind. Patient. Every single employee that I came across had my best interest at heart. Daily meetings. Great food. We would go out on walks. Anything I needed (within reason) was taken care of and handled for me. I was nervous and scared before entering the doors of Saddleback. But I am so glad I did. This is the first step in my recovery and Saddleback held my hand the entire way to make sure I was comfortable and could continue on with the next step in my recovery. Thank you so much Saddleback!

Where do I start. I needed help immediately and Saddleback was there the same day to get me.. EVERY single staff member cares and are there when you need them and they are always asking how they can help. I am not sure about the negative reviews but people who didnt feel this way mostly didn’t want to be in treatment and left. Coming in with a loving attitude and the love will be returned 100.%. In closing I want to share that I have been to 23 treatment centers and have worked with mean and unpleasant people…I have never felt safer than I do at Saddleback. I love each and every person here. If you are making a decision to get help this is the place to be! ❤️

was kicked out of "speculation" of sharing medication with no place to go. This is not a facility you go to if you want to detox comfortably; they minimally medicate.

Having a family member enter detox/recovery is very stressful and challenging. Our experience and the outcome for us was extremely positive: The staff was not only highly professional but went the extra mile for our niece who entered in pretty tough shape. The level of competence, compassion and PERSONLIZED care was outstanding. Not only that but the staff always went the extra mile to ensure not only a safe outcome but a durable outcome. They made the transition to a follow up sober living program successful and smooth. The staff's help with insurance was also knowledgeable and effective. I can't recommend this program highly enough based on our family's experience. We are forever grateful for the deeply caring effort made for our niece.
