About Saint Vincent Hospital

Saint Vincent Hospital is located on Summer Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. They provide inpatient behavioral health services, including medical detoxification for substance use disorders for adults and older adults in need of addiction or behavioral health services. It’s also a full-service hospital so you can get any medical care you need here too.

A Full Continuum of Care for Structure and Support in Recovery

They offer you psychiatric inpatient care here in addition to partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for individuals needing structured support while living at home. This offers you a full continuum of care for your recovery journey, allowing you to step down from inpatient to less intensive outpatient treatment as you progress through your recovery, all with the same treatment center.

Treating Older Adults

Services are provided to adults including older adults or geriatric patients in need of addiction or behavioral services. It can be difficult to find a treatment center that has tailored care for older clients, accounting for their health needs and making treatment appropriate for their stage of life. They also provide services to individuals with acute psychiatric needs in addition to addiction.

Located in downtown Worcester, near Worcester Common and Worcester Art Museum, Saint Vincent is close to Institute Park and Elm Park, both offering green spaces conducive to relaxation and outdoor walks. They are also in close proximity to community resources such as public transit, city center facilities and local support networks.

I had a billing problem and the customer service reps are the worst I've ever dealt with in my life. I'm 63 and I'm not exaggerating. 2 of them out right lied to me in an attempt to gas light me. They were both male. The female reps didn't resolve my problem, but at least they didn't lie. If you call in and a male answers hang up and call again. In the future I won't see doctors affiliated with St Vincent. I will see UMass affiliated doctors from now on. I saw a YouTube video naming the 10 worst hospitals in Massachusetts. St V. Came in 2nd worse. I'm not the only one who doesn't like them. Although I've never had a problem with the doctors or staff, I won't get operated on there after the customer service problems I've had and that video.

I recently spent a week in the psychiatric ward because I was sectioned by my psychiatrist and I'm so thankful she did that. Not only did she save my life, but the staff and psychiatrist in the ward saved my life. All the staff were caring and did their absolute best to care for everyone as best they could. The other patients were incredibly awesome and I felt like I had others who related to what I was going through so I didn't feel alone during my stay. Group therapy was also particularly helpful and something that is absolutely amazing. I was well watched after and felt safe from harming myself. When I was finally discharged I felt like I had a refreshed outlook on my life and I felt like I received kind and adequate care. I honestly don't get why people treat these people like garbage when they're doing the best they can. I swear some people treat this place and other hospitals like a damn hotel and think they can be jerks to staff. The people giving one stars are full of bs.

Accepted Insurance

Saint Vincent Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Nurses were very rude and disrespectful. Every visit implies waiting for five hours total, waiting for the doctor to come in (which he hasn’t).

I was in the ER in the afternoon three days ago (stomach bug) and I think they did a great job. From someone coming around with a pillow and warm blanket to Rachel, my nurse and Dr. P who both had incredible bedside manners. They were very kind and informative! Thank you to all who helped me feel better.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your positive feedback, Gwen. We are thrilled you had a great experience.

Forgot to hook my grandmother back up to oxygen after a test and left her struggling to breathe (ER) No communication between doctors and nurses once admitted. Left waiting for hours with no help or answers. Pretty typical experience here at St. V’s. Of course, some nurses are wonderful but overall this hospital is not the best.

The worst hospital ever!!! My experience at the emergency room was the worst! The nursing staff most was rude, the 1 star 🌟 is for the hand full of staff that showed kindness and because I couldn't leave my comments without at lease 1🌟. As a member of the medical field myself it was very sad to be treated the way they did by not just one member but a big bunch.

I am so frustrated with st v’s! My dad is there for the 2nd time in a few months, and BOTH times they are serving all the patients food on disposable stuff. I find it to be very disheartening. I work in food service and it’s a MAJOR disservice to the patients. My dad gets his food cold EVERY meal!!!!! I thought last time that maybe there was an issue that was being corrected but to come back like 6 weeks later and it’s the same? That’s just wrong!!!! And 9 months later- SAME ISSUE!!!!! Sounds like they are just too cheep to make the repairs, and it’s sad because I’m not getting a discount on my end :(
