Hello My 81 year-old-stepmother was brought to the emergency room for a medical condition on 5/26/2026. We had a bad experience with the emergency doctor Jhun, Michelle. During the doctor's interview, my stepmother was kind of repeating her medical information and Dr. Jhun was observed rolling her eyes in front of my stepmother-So unprofessional and rude! When Dr. Jhun spoke to me on the phone regarding my stepmother's condition, Dr. Jhun was observed to also roll her eyes-so unprofessional and rude. Dr. Jhun may have 6 to 10 years of doctor experience but your bad attitude needs to be changed. A doctor needs to be caring and showing empathy and compassion to his/her patients. Dr. Jhun: if you need to roll your eyes, please go to a private room or bathroom to roll them, NOT infront of patients and their families. Please treat your patients and their families as your families need to be treated. The emergency nurse, Nancy made round 2 times during 9 hours of our visit. Nurse Nancy should make more rounding to check on your patients to ensure your patient safety Note: I have never written a review but not this time. This review is toward individuals NOT San Gabriel Medical Center. Thank you for reviewing this post

I don’t usually share bad experiences because I truly do believe people can be having bad days and I try to stay positive , with that being said I couldn’t help but to have to share the experience I had at this hospital . I was (and still am ) having really bad upper abdominal pain , anyone that has experienced this before knows how painful this is . It takes a lot for me to go to a hospital but when I do it’s because I really can’t deal with it anymore . I came in by ambulance with so much pain and they took forever to come and give me pain medication or help me manage my pain now I understand that ER are busy but in other hospitals they have came and tried to at least give you something to ease the pain . The nurse I had was Victor he showed no empathy and just kept saying I had to wait for the doctor to see me and that he couldn’t give me pain medication because my blood pressure was low (which I get ) even though my blood pressure is always low but he saw how much pain I was having and didn’t even care to offer suggestions to bring up my blood pressure so I can get some medicine. The doctor then told him he could give me some , unfortunately it didn’t help much and after and hour I asked if I can get more and again very rude . You come to a hospital when you feel the worst and hope that the staff can make you feel better but once I called victor rude - the rest of the staff started acting cold as well . The only person that was truly nice to me was the one that drew my blood and the 2nd nurse. Even the supervisor was not supportive. 2nd shift starts the doctor comes in barely explains anything to me , also giving me the cold shoulder and discharges me when I’m still in a lot of pain . I get paper work put on the shelf for me , have no idea what anything means had to come home and google it while in pain . There are something’s that seem to be highlighted in black that are concerning yet NOONE said hey let’s address this issue . The worst hospital experience ever !

Very disappointing experience. The registration staff (7am shift) was unprofessional and visibly annoyed. The patient had a wrist injury and limited English, and I was assisting with translation, yet she still pressured him to sign without proper accommodation. She also appeared to mutter something under her breath in an unprofessional manner, which made the situation even more uncomfortable before surgery.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

San Gabriel Valley Medical Center works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
