About Self Help Addiction Rehab – West Grand Boulevard

Self-Help Addiction Rehab (SHAR) West Grand Boulevard is a drug and alcohol rehab center located in Detroit, Michigan. They treat people for substance use disorder and alcohol use disorder. They have both residential and outpatient services. They are a non for profit organization.

This facility has been treating people in the Detroit area since 1969. Their mission is to help socially and economically disadvantaged people with substance issues.

They provide a comfortable place for you to detox from drugs. You will be monitored constantly by a trained medical staff. It normally takes three or four days to detoxify but it may vary based on your body and the type of substances you have in your system.

They have a medically assisted treatment (MAT) program for people with opioid use disorder who have been clean for at least seven days. They will provide Vivitrol which can ease the pain of withdrawal and reduce cravings without the euphoric effect.

The residential program is 120 days long. They will provide an evaluation as well as group and individual therapy. They have gender specific treatment for women. You will be a case manager who will stay with you through every step of your journey.

They teach people social skills and educate them about the effects of drugs on your body. Your individual sessions are designed just for you. They have several different types of groups including those that are gender specific.

They also offer intensive outpatient and standard outpatient services if you don’t require around the clock care and supervision. They provide aftercare that includes peer support specialists who provide assistance with housing and employment.

They run a SHAR community service center that provides resources for people in the community. You will be able to find 12-step meetings and therapy resources there. Soon, they will house the SHAR Academy across the street. This location will offer wrap-around services to people who are in recovery.

The academy will function as a one-stop shop for addiction treatment services and will function as a comprehensive Community Center. People can visit this one-stop “Recovery Mall” to access a variety of recovery-related resources.

Accepted Insurance

Self Help Addiction Rehab – West Grand Boulevard works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment at Self-Help Addiction Rehab - West Grand Boulevard is aimed at eliminating substance abuse behaviors and gaining the abilities to live a clean and sober life. Insight into the addiction and relapse process and developing a personalized plan to identify triggers, attitudes and engage in a lifestyle change is essential. With durations up to 120 days, SHAR's residential programs are also designed for individuals with co-occurring disorders (COD) who need stabilization as well as individuals with co-existing legal problems / criminal thinking issues. Eliminating substance abuse and increasing an individual's pro-social behaviors happens in the structured, therapeutic environments of both SHAR Main and SHAR Macomb where our residential programs are housed.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I dropped my little brother off at the Shar house yesterday 2/21/23 at 3pm. He is home now at 10:55am 2/22/23. They claim his pressure was too high and sent home on medical leave. He needs help and they turn him down due to his pressure. Maybe it was God saving his life from Shar facility rather than himself.

Rude...everyone there is just miserable...the monitors are on a power trip...they are intimidating...and enjoy their power... The person at the desk acts like you are just a problem...no compassion... My son went to QBH and wow! What a difference...when I called about my son I was treated with kindness and respect... Shar house was a nightmare...it kills me knowing my son had to put up with discrimination....
