Terrible experience. Spare yourself if you can.First the triage nurse asked for my PII within earshot of a full lobby. Then they admittedly just forgot to communicate with me while I was there. I'm pretty sure they forgot I was even there. The doctor who was supposed to see me apparently went home for the night and I had to wait for the next doctor in the morning. I waited for 8 hours overnight. They told me I couldn't leave because insurance might not cover my expense. They knew nothing about my insurance coverage but used this claim to pressure me to stay. I later saw a printed memo inside instructing employees to prevent patients from leaving because they're trying to reduce the number of people who leave without being seen. I guess it happens a lot.I had asked to avoid getting an x-ray if possible, but a technician then administered scans on me without anyone informing me what was going on or why.All this for a doctor to look at my wound for ten seconds and tell me I was fine. This absolute privilege of an experience cost me almost two thousand dollars.I even tried speaking with the Director of the ER after being connected and she told me she would call me back. She never did of course.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I was hit by a 18 wheeler. I was transported by ambulance where they took me off their stretcher and placed me in the waiting room. Not one nurse asked me if I needed anything for pain. They only check your vitals. When asked first assistance to use the restroom they told me to walk slow there is an emergency button in the restroom. I told them my vision was blurry and my ears are ringing. I was told by the charge nurse yea a car accident will do that to you then walked off. I’m beyond disappointed. I have not seen a ER physician since I’ve been here, but they discharged me. SMH St Mary you should have better patient care.

Your Emergency Room is very poor Long wait even when it’s not crowded You can take some look at St. Charles St Joseph ssm I came Easter Sunday about 4:45. It took about 5 hours before I finally went to the back. And then I had say I was leaving then. That’s just one of the times I was there

The communication between doctors, nurses and patients is outstanding. They kept me informed throughout my stay. From the doctors to the housekeeping staff everyone was friendly and caring. The only hiccup was their dining service, but I think they are working on that.

This hospital has let me down on several occasions. When I had my son in 2009, I was high risk due to my type 1 diabetes. I was in labor for 3 days and then they said they were going to have to do an emergency c-section bc it was going to be a dry birth. So they gave me an epidural and didn’t believe me when I said it wasn’t working…..but I could still walk. And refused to give me another one and then cut me open where I could feel everything. My mom and grandma were not in the operating room but could hear my screams from a ways away. It was so bad the anesthesiologist had to put me out after making a comment like “don’t you want to see your baby”? Further bc I was moving on the table I laid in bed bleeding internally for 3 days to out of it to even use the morphine drip they had given me. They took out my catheter and later when I tried to get up I collapsed and had to be revived. They did stop the bleeding but after I was released and I needed my medical records they lost those. I did however never receive a bill probably bc they knew they messed up. This is the main reason, they also refused to give me my son, I had to prove that I was able to take care of him and that I had a strong support system. This took about a month even though he was almost 9 lbs when he was born. I don’t wish this experience on anyone ever.

St. Marys Food Service (dietary) department extention 8600. I am in room 643. I am a diabetic I've been here since 4/25/2025. Every time I receive my food, it's cold, or it never gets delivered to my room. 4/26/2025 I placed my order for a warm turkey and wheat sandwich for dinner. I had a burnt turkey sandwich with steamed brocolli, and I received cold green beans instead for service customer service. It has been horrible they get smart with you and talk to you, grimmy, like not a patient. Today 4/27/2025 I called alday to place my order. The phone just rang, then when the nurse called, the young man agrued with me and my nurse about a food order that was never placed. Stated the food was delivered, and I never received a food tray. When I know that @Sodexo food service company don't allow for their food facilities management company to be run as such! I will be reporting this incident through the state of Missouri health department!
