Accepted Insurance

Tri City Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Tri-City is by far the worst hospital I've ever been to. My husband was mortified walking into the ER. The same ER that's been "under construction" for God knows how long. It's like walking into a sketchy building. My arm was blown out by one of the phlebotomist. After 7 tubes being drawn they send me back to those ridiculous patient waiting rooms where you just hear everyone's business, no privacy and very disgusting with the blood drops on the floor. I asked one of the staff for help as I wasn't feeling well after blood drawn and have a history of fainting after. I was told "I don't know what to do for that I'll go check" never came back. i had to call my husband to come back in to help me so I wouldn't faint after he was told to go outside because there was no room in the waiting room. I watched a homeless man across from me ask for assistance several times and watched staff walk right past him as if he wasn't a human being!! To the point he just walked right out of the hospital. The director needs to focus on fixing this disaster of a place! I've been to 3 world country hospitals that are ran more professional than this place!!! Avoid it like your life depends on it LITERALLY!!!

3 visits so far. First time was 😣. Second time was 🌟. First time, the Dr was fine, but every other person working there was making so many mistakes that it made my head spin. The second time I was there, it was vastly improved. The Dr was amazing, and the staff were great; attentive, friendly, helpful people. And, I got to come back for a third time… Three times in two months all for the same injuries. It’s a work injury, and the work comp. Doctors advise me to do exactly the opposite of what the ER doctors advise. But the ER doctors advise me and I follow their advice, and I get better. I follow the work comp doctor advice, and I get worse. So I had to come back because I couldn’t walk because I kept getting re-injured at my work and I was in excruciating pain… And the doctor at the ER assessed me ran a few tests then treated me with proper medicine. He didn’t tell me that the reason for my pain was that I was old, like Concentra did. He didn’t try to gaslight me, he didn’t refuse to give me medicine that I needed, like Concentra did.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi M M, Thank you for sharing both of your experiences with us. We’re sorry to hear that your first visit didn’t meet expectations, but we’re glad to know your second experience was a positive one. THE WORST. I gave Tri-City my Kaiser card at time of service, and they're in the Kaiser network, which meant the bill should have simply been processed in a timely manner, but instead their "business/billing department" failed, as in purposely refused to file the claim for over 3 years but instead they immediately put a lien of $14,000 on my good credit. I have just filed a lawsuit against Tri-City. DON'T TRUST THEM. #Medicare4All (universal healthcare paid by our taxes) is so complex ONLY EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED NATION on EARTH 🌎 HAS FIGURED IT OUT. 💯

If I could give 0 stars I would. There is a 1 yr old with a 103 fever, been in there 3 hrs and still in the waiting room. When I was there, I couldn't breathe, chest pain, and 8 hrs later, walked out the sane as I walked in. Tri city is the worst. DO NOT GO THERE. REPEAT, IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE, GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

To judge from the less than great star ratings of the past, things have changed for the better. Since the recent Scripts affiliation, the service here has radically improved. I think this was partly due to what Google describes as "Tri-City Medical Center has announced a significant partnership with UC San Diego Health to provide administrative, clinical, and operational management for its healthcare services. This indicates a different strategic alliance for Tri-City."

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi James, thank you for the kind review! We're not affiliated with Scripps or UC San Diego Health, but our team works hard every day to deliver excellent care and keep improving for our patients experience. Take care!

Gio
Patient Liaison Officer

Two years ago, on May 16, 2023, our lives changed forever when our dad was brought to the Emergency Department at Tri-City Medical Center. It was one of the hardest days our family has ever faced. As a nurse myself, it was incredibly difficult to let go and trust others to care for someone I love very much —but we had no choice. We had to place our faith in the hands of the doctors and nurses, and they stepped up in every possible way. The Emergency Department team worked tirelessly to stabilize our dad. The hours were long and emotionally draining, but their commitment never wavered. Eventually, they succeeded, and he was transferred to the ICU. There, we encountered the same level of compassion and excellence from the entire care team—nurses, respiratory therapists, doctors, phlebotomists, EVS staff, security—every single person treated our dad with skill and our family with kindness. We are especially grateful to Dr. Viceroi and Dr. Yamanaka, who ensured our dad was transferred to UCSD for a higher level of care. ICU nurse Kim stands out as one of the best we’ve ever met—her compassion and dedication truly touched our hearts. From the Emergency Room to the ICU to Interventional Radiology, every department gave us the precious gift of more time with our dad. No hospital is perfect, but Tri-City gave us something that can’t be measured: Time. For that, we will be forever thankful!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Maricris,
I'm so glad Tri-City Medical Center was able to care for your dad during such a difficult time. We're honored to have helped give you more time with him. Tri-City is here to serve our community, and your kind words mean a great deal to us. I’ll be sharing your feedback with our leadership team—thank you for taking the time to share your experience. You are probably better off just dying. The rooms are dirty, everything takes FOREVER, most of the staff are pretty callous and don't care much for the patients. It's miserable every time I have to take a family member here for care.

My 102-year-old father was seen in the ER on 04- 01-25, day shift. In spite of it being hectic and full of patients with obviously demanding issues to deal with, his nurse Gretel provided steller care, Also the 3 young men and one other nurse she was working with ( I'm sorry I misplaced the documentation of the other staff's names) showed the same professionalism patience care, and teamwork she did as we watched them triage and assist the many patients we saw come through the door in our time there.. Our family wanted to send our personal thanks to Gretel for all the things she did to make my father and myself as comfortable as possible, keeping us updated on my father's status, and the patience shown providing info my dad who is very hard of hearing and takes longer to process things d/t his age, but has no demensia....and to her coworkers for a job well done demonstrated while we were there

The worst staff I have ever dealt with, my cousin was taken into the hospital on Sunday 4/27/2025 around 5:15-5:30pm for seizures she got while we were in the bathroom, she can’t control them, she does have a medical history of “non-epileptic seizures” back in October 2024, they have not been coming back in months so this startled us. We are from out of town 4 hours away from this place, once the paramedics showed up to the food place we were at they were trying to carry her on the stretcher and the paramedics literally yelled at her to “calm down” like how are you going to tell someone that is having a seizure to CALM DOWN. She was literally trying so hard to control them before she got them more but she can’t and all they said was “she’s not having a seizure, this is all her doing this herself, she’s just having an “event”, so she’s not going to die or anything she’s just has to be taken to the hospital because she’s all shaky and we can’t just leave her” seriously ? So these grown men made it sound like she was faking it the whole time! Like why would we want to be at a hospital during our weekend vacation 4 HOURS AWAY from home? Once we got there there I waited in the waiting room for 30 min, they don’t go and call any visitors once they get transferred in a room, you have to go yourself and check with the security guard. I walked in after checking with them and my cousin was not being checked on, they had taken blood from what it looked like and had a vital machine. She was still having like “seizures or compulsions” I asked a short Hispanic young nurse that was there around 6:25 what have they done to her since she got there? All she said was “the doctor will tell you when she gets here” so I’m thinking “she has all these wires on her (no IV) and she couldn’t just tell me the basics ?” We were in room C27 The Nurse Autumn comes in to cover night shift and she seemed annoyed she had to do her job and check on my cousin, one of the nurses (didn’t get her name) but anyone that was working during that day and in that room asked her if she had taking any substance that day and my cousin said no because she didn’t! And the nurse said “she smells like alcohol” must’ve been her own breath because everyone there looked hung over or something as I overheard Nurse Autumn who was just arriving to her shift talking to another on how she should’ve called out because they were hungover from the night before. Nurse Autumn brings my cousin food and tosses the food on the table and just slides it to her and mumbles “let’s see how you’re feeling after” with an annoyed attitude or maybe hungover like she did not want to be there. If they assumed that she was under a substance ? Wouldn’t they have put her on an IV? They even asked if she had an IV before we left ? Like you guys are the ones working there and supposed to know what you guys put on your patients? Very unprofessional. At the end of everything they literally gave her a sheet diagnosing her that she has PNES and it says “ if you have psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES), it is very important to understand that your PNES is a real illness. Your seizures are not fake. They just have a different cause than other seizures. PNES can be treated. Work with your mental health provider to find a treatment that works for you. After experiencing all of this I check their reviews and there’s no way they have worst reviews than a motel 6. Never experience anything like that. They need to hire better nurses. Do better.
