About Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp & Boot Camp
Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp (WHCC) is a correctional facility in Newcastle, Wyoming, run by the Wyoming Department of Corrections. It’s primarily a minimum security facility for male inmates, but it has a special Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) that’s designed to give male and female inmates of all custody levels treatment for substance use disorders. According to Section 3621, under Title 18 of the US Code, the correctional authority must make appropriate substance use treatment available for convicted persons suffering from a substance use disorder (SUD). This is one of the correction centers that cater to this need within the correctional system.
A Comprehensive Approach to Rehabilitation
The SUD rehabilitation program within the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) is capable of treating patients with the most severe needs. They have medication assisted treatment available for those who need it, which can be offered to an inmate after their intake and screening process as part of their recovery. Apart from that, the rest of their comprehensive approach involves a 24 hour learning experience designed to assist and educate patients in all aspects of their rehabilitation journeys.
In both ITU wings, participants in the program are engaged with cognitive behavioral therapy as well as other individual therapy modalities. The 24 hour environment also incorporates group learning and communal therapy. These approaches help the inmates address SUD as well as any criminological or social factors that may have caused or been caused by illicit drug use.
Meeting Gender Specific Needs
While the program in each ITU wing is largely the same, there are key differences between the men’s program and the women’s program. This is because WDOC’s partners employ educational and therapeutic approaches backed by evidence to produce the best outcomes in each population.
One example of this is that a big focus in the men’s unit is addressing recidivism, while the women’s unit focuses more on giving participants the courage to change and set boundaries. WHCC is also mindful of the role trauma plays in bringing SUD into people’s lives, and so their approaches are trauma informed.

Other Forms of Payment
Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.
Addiction Treatments
Levels of Care
Outpatient rehabs allow clients to remain in or return to their home and community while receiving treatment. These programs are for clients leaving inpatient care and for those wishing to return home immediately following detox. Most outpatient programs offer multiple levels of care to evolve with clients' needs, including programming such as partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) care. The most common outpatient treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery education, holistic and integrative care, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Clients receiving care at an inpatient rehab are often seeking more intensive structure, support, and supervision than an outpatient program can provide. Clients temporarily live at the treatment center, engaging in multiple therapeutic sessions a day. Treatment typically involves extensive individual, group, and family counseling. Many facilities also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training to support sustained sobriety, and evidence-based holistic care, such as meditation and message, to alleviate stress and anxiety.
Treatments
Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.
Programs
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
Clinical Services
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Wyoming can occur in various formats. Common types of CBT include dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy. The main focus of each is to help participants change thought and behavior patterns.
