About Sandstone Care Denver

Their IOP and day treatment programs will provide a stable environment for your recovery journey. To facilitate your recovery, the center offers a wealth of natural light, comfortable community and treatment areas and modern amenities.

They understand how much a family can be impacted by addiction and how important it is for family members to be involved in the healing process. An all encompassing and more comprehensive approach to treatment is facilitated by family therapy at this facility. Families are urged to go to family therapy sessions together in order to show support for the recovering family member and to collaborate to overcome challenges, mend relationships and acquire skills for constructive communication.

It is well known that conditions such as depression and anxiety can significantly affect an individual’s capacity to derive pleasure from life. Because of this, both addiction and mental health issues are covered in their treatment programs.

Patients participating in their day treatment program spend several hours a day in therapy several days a week. People who require additional assistance in conquering their substance use issues are advised to enroll in this program.

Those who attend their IOP continue to work or attend school while receiving treatment for a few hours three to four days a week. After receiving day treatment or residential care for several weeks or months, clients frequently transition to this program. While receiving IOP treatment, their transitional housing offers a secure setting where you can concentrate on your recovery.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have completed active addiction treatment and are receiving services designed to promote their sustained sobriety. Drug rehab aftercare typically encompasses a wide variety of medical, mental health, and social services meant to facilitate clients' reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Clients typically collaborate with their case manager and/or recovery team to identify and access the services they need, often including peer coaching, career counseling, and care referrals.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Detox can be dangerous if not properly supervised, making 24-hour clinical care in Colorado an essential tool in the recovery process. The constant monitoring by medical professionals helps individuals through critical stages of recovery. Medical professionals and addiction specialists are available 24/7 to provide medications that ease withdrawal symptoms and to treat any other issues that arise.

Detoxification can be medically-supervised in either an outpatient or an inpatient setting. Generally when people talk about “medical detox,” they are referring to an acute care inpatient program, where medical help is available 24/7. Sometimes medically-supervised detox involves taking prescription medications to help the body taper off the substance in question or to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes it simply involves monitoring a person to make sure that no complications arise.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Professional services are often necessary to recover from addiction. Drug rehab in Colorado provides the expert services needed to address the complex issues of addiction and help individuals start their recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It helps people to identify unhealthy thought patterns, and how these may be contributing to destructive behaviors and beliefs. There are a variety of therapies that fit under this general umbrella, including Rational Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Therapy.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Based on the couple's needs, couples therapy may take different forms. Your therapist will probably take an integrated approach, using techniques from several methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic couple's therapy. The goal is to work through challenges and strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I did Sandstone IOP last year and had a good experience although it was intense. My mental health hasn’t been the best this year and I reached out to Sandstone because I thought I needed to do a PHP. I ended up taking to a new coordinator named Patrick. We did the intake and they thought I didn’t need PHP that’s fine. Well we get the intake scheduled and I asked a question if Sandstone was a mental health facility and while Patrick was giving me the answer he decided to trauma dump on me about a past experience he had and hearing that made me very uncomfortable and I didn’t even know what to say. I’ve never had anyone at Sandstone or anywhere else tell me a very personal former client situation on the phone. The day of the intake I overslept and had something come up the day of. I completely forgot to communicate which I will take accountability for but when I wake up I get a text message from Patrick that if I didn’t text him back that he was gonna call a welfare check. I thankfully got back to him within the hour but I was shaken up and frightened. Patrick almost calling a welfare check even though I was completely safe and this was voluntary was incredibly inappropriate and put my safety at risk. I’ve never had anyone at Sandstone want to call a welfare check on me for a voluntary program. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. I haven’t gotten back to sandstone yet but that will be the last time they will ever hear from me.

Think carefully before you send a child to rehab services… for kids, run by kids and little to no better than your own household. Drug sharing, more exposure to likely harder things than your child was likely into, and a network of the same people mostly resistant to change and waiting out their ‘time’ required by parents. I never got status I didn’t ask for, heard often about incidents, and was enamored by how young, unqualified and likely intern-based ‘treatment’ our son received. This is classic of these facilities unfortunately. Charge insurance (if you’re lucky) ungodly amounts of money, vague treatment practices, and basically serve as a wayward ‘home’ for teens to collaborate and push on rebellion. We were at it a better part of 6mo with no new learned discernible life skills, consequence understanding, or real enforceable abstinence standards. Stupid state law and unqualified employees have no duty to be transparent or any authority to really enforce. I would leave an impressive review if I were impressed. Was not. Would be very curious more of how well off and hands off the ‘owners’ of these businesses were. Be wary of the next news thread and investigation on these especially in CA and CO.

Response from the owner
Hey Patrick,

We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. Concerns around supervision, communication, transparency, and the overall treatment environment are very important to us, and we understand how frustrating it is when a family feels the program did not provide the support they were hoping for. We take feedback like this seriously and want to ensure it is reviewed thoroughly.

To help us better understand and address your concerns, we ask that you please share additional details through our form here: https://sandstone.compliancemanager.healthicity.com/report/8F826D5886
