ER was a zoo last Thursday night! A good zoo , meaning it was buzzing with activity ..RNs checking on pts, MDs interacting with pts, nursing technicians performing tasks within their scope of practice! As a former Critical Care RN at NYUMC, I weaned myself off of NYUMC in Manhattan as all o knew had aged out! Clustered my various doctors here! The National Accreditation Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence has been awarded every six years x 3 = 18 years of meeting or exceeding the National Standard! THE ONLY HOSPITAL IN THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY TO ACHIEVE THIS COVETED MAGNET CERTIFICATION!!The repeated earning of a LeapFrog rating of 5/5 speaks to the medical excellence, nursing excellence, safety protocols, error prevention, etc.No one paid me to write this review. I was a Critical Care RN at NYUMC X 30 years. I know excellence when I see it! You re safer here than any other medical facility in Westchester County!God Bless the Angels who are its employees! Great job Dr. Michael Palumbo!

Parking is AWFUL!! This better be fixed when construction is done. Limited patient parking. Employee parking is 1 mile away from the hospital by the westchester mall. NO EMPLOYEE SHUTTLE SERVICE to hospital 1 mile away. No patient shuttle service from off site lots. Makes for a frustrating bad experience for all. I'd rather attend their off site clinic and have surgery at other hospitals that are easier to visit as a patient. No thanks.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I am admitted in hospital right now - 5th floor. Been waiting over 2 hours for medically prescribed Nebulizer treatment. -way overdue. also waiting for a Boost or Ensure which dr said I should have & they said they were bringing. Again about 2 hours ago. Julia, nurse, is very good but highly overworked. My room can get pretty stifling which exacerbates my shortness of breath. Said they were going to move me — again over 2 hours ago. I have no hospital phone. Waiting for it. They are now ignoring all my calls. Oh. And I got to ER by ambulance yesterday at 1:30 in the afternoon. Finally got to a room about 11:15pm last night. I am 84 years old Inexcusable treatment!!

The best hospital ever! First of all, I did heavy research on top hospitals and found this to have over 4 stars which is top notch in Nyc compared to other hospitals with 2-3 stars. I gave birth to my baby here and the doctors and nurses were so kind, helpful, attentive and always making sure I was well. My doctor who delivered my son Dr. Dworkin was so professional and knew exactly how to transition and prepare me mentally to give birth. I was able to use a yoga ball, walk around and able to let the contractions pass by. My actual delivery time took 12 minutes as per nurse and boom my baby is healthy and was taken care of as well. Also the food they served was so healthy. Even gave me and hubby a celebration dinner where we ordered lobster dinner. So delicious 😋 I would deliver all my babies here if I have another one again. 🥹The doctors, nurses, food service, cleaning assistants all top notch. Thank you for the opportunity to give birth in such a place. I am very happy and agree with the top hospital credibility as I have personally experienced it. ❤️❤️👌

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I was admitted by ambulance. I saw no one for the better part of a couple of hours. You would figure it taken by ambulance somebody would take a full report or even see if you're still alive. You know it's not that important that someone should be taken care of when they're admitted by ambulance for falling down the stairs.Sitting in the hallway I had no ability to call for a nurse so the only option I had on the wall was a code button. They shut it off and still ignored me. I was admitted because I fell down the stairs my lower back and kidneys spleen all were hurting. They did not take a full report on all the things that have happened. I received no treatment not even an aspirin. For 3 hours that was ignored was given beyond substandard patient care

**MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE WARNING** I was a spinal cord stimulator patient in undue severe pain as a result of a procedure, directed to a hospital to ensure safety of the device. This implant to stimulate nerves is in the spinal space, and I couldn’t move. I followed my doctors instructions and went for help- the hospital refused to do imaging. I have existing spinal hardware PLUS a brand new implant, severe pain and functional compromise and they refused anything but morphine and steroids. They said this isn’t emergent, except removal of the device at another facility immediately resolved the emergent symptoms. **These people are capable of causing severe harm through negligence** **RUN

It's relatively easy to get to, even with the construction going on. I find the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are eager to help. It is kept clean, which is a good thing for a hospital to do.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We're so glad to hear this, Michael. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

This hospital is the best. Went to the emergency room with my daughter and she was seen within one minute of registering. They immediately ran a series of tests and were so professional and empathetic. They work quickly and you don’t hear any foolishness and fooling around between the medical professionals that you hear at other hospitals. They get the work done and treat everyone with dignity. Excellent hospital. Highly recommend.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Dear Carron, we're grateful that you took the time to share your feedback and are glad to hear that you had such a positive, efficient experience. Thank you for trusting us with your daughter's care.

I took my mom to the hospital because she felt very nauseous, dizzy, felt like the room was spinning , a huge cough and a headache , they first had to take blood and take xrays of her lungs and head, they never gave her results, doctors never came to see her, nurse gave discharge papers, Múltiple nurses came in and could not find a vein, One nurse came in with her hands very shaky, this is how they left my mom, her arms hurt! Worst experience ever never again! They have her no medication for anything!

Staff and care were absolutely amazing when I delivered my daughter. The rooms however need to be checked as I was postpartum with a broken shower in my room. This is unacceptable, rooms should be diligently checked prior to checking in.

My husband recently had spinal surgery at White Plains Hospital. From the time we arrived until the time we left three days later, he could not have gotten better care from the nurses, the food services, or housekeeping. Not only do the employees do their jobs, the supervisors check to see that everything is all right. Besides the medical care, White Plains Hospital provides emotional support to the families. The waiting room where family members wait has an electronic bulletin board to let people know when patients are prepped for surgery, in surgery, and in recovery. A chaplain comes and prays for a good outcome to the surgical procedure. A rabbi came the next day to pray for a speedy healing and recovery. The spiritual as well as the corporeal needs are attended to when patients and their families are under duress. Food is very good and appetizing with several appealing choices for each meal. Nurses provide coffee for family members. Everyone is extremely empathetic. It is no wonder this hospital gets an A rating. Follow-up by the administration is superb as well to check wait times and treatment.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Dear Carol, thank you for taking the time to share your husband's and your experience. We're grateful for your kind words and so glad to hear about the exceptional care provided. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery from surgery!
