About Lawrenceville VA Clinic

Lawrenceville VA Clinic is an addiction treatment facility treating veterans who live in the Lawrenceville, Georgia, area. Anyone struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, including co-occurring mental health conditions, can benefit from their services. Often, veterans may struggle with mental health issues that stem from their time in active duty, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD or schizophrenia. This may expand the severity of addiction, which is why it’s important to offer dual diagnosis treatment in these settings. This clinic is open weekdays only. That’s because they only offer outpatient care. If you require round the clock care, otherwise known as inpatient or residential care, you may need to be referred to another clinic.

Still, while only offering outpatient care, they have a solid and fair amount of treatment offerings for those struggling with addiction. Aside from their counseling services, they offer health maintenance services and community support. For counseling, you can benefit from individual therapy, group therapy and marriage or relationship counseling. They also have specialized programs for those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Individual therapy and group therapy alone can be huge benefits on your recovery journey, giving you the tools to identify triggers, learn coping skills and prevent relapse. Group therapy gives you the chance to meet others in your situation who can help you overcome trauma and grow from your experience.

If you need to detox before your treatment, they do offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) to help ensure that you don’t experience any major withdrawal symptoms or uncomfortable cravings. Medications such as Vivitrol and Suboxone can help lessen these symptoms.

I took my brother in-law to this clinic a few days ago. From the security guard at the front and the whole staff inside was top notch. I'm a retired Army 1SG and I tell you what, that's the best run clinic civilian or VA I've ever seen. Thank you all for your excellent job!

This is a great VA Medical Center. I ve read the reviews - but thoroughly disagree . They have been taking care of me since Sept 2021 and every person from the check-in person, nurses and doctors is kind, respectful, professional. When I leave after an appointment I always feel so well taken care of!! Thanks VA Lawrenceville!

This clinic is great! They are very responsive via messages on MyHealtheVet and I have never been turned down for anything having to do with my health concerns. All the staff are very friendly and have accommodated all my needs, even in more urgent situations where I was a walk-in. There are some limitations with equipment and services but that is expected from a small clinic. I am very happy with this clinic overall!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition therapy has short term and long term goals. In the short term, it helps restore your health so you can recover from the physical effects of addiction. Long term, it helps you understand overall health and nutrition to set you up for a healthy lifestyle in recovery.

By incorporating recreational therapy into an addiction treatment program in Georgia, you learn to discover new interests and develop health and healthy coping mechanisms. Activities could include painting, group sports, or yoga. These encourage social interaction and support your physical fitness, which are vital factors in a successful recovery journey.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I am posting this on behalf of my husband about today's call on Thursday, 29th, 2025. This is what my husband experienced on the call: "I would like to take a moment to commend the exceptional customer service I recently received from Ms. Takita Taylor at the Lawrenceville VA Clinic, located at 455 Philip Blvd in Georgia. Ms. Taylor provided an excellent, superb, and truly amazing level of service. She not only answered all of my questions thoroughly but also went above and beyond by personally reaching out to my doctor and the doctor's assistant to ensure that my concerns were addressed. In addition, she took the extra step to check the location of my medical equipment, which is vital to my ability to walk and function day to day. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and compassion made a real difference in my experience. I also had the pleasure of speaking with her supervisor, Mr. Rooks, who was equally professional, courteous, and respectful. It’s clear that positive changes are happening at this clinic—changes that are so necessary for veterans like myself who have sacrificed to serve our country. Thank you, Ms. T. Taylor and Mr. Rooks, for your patience, kindness, and outstanding professionalism. Your dedication and care are deeply appreciated." Sincerely, Mr. Marshall Veteran

Patient Advocates are not located here, instead the Security folks will give you the number to the front desk lobby at the Dekalb VA only to be chastised with taking your information down but you will not receive a call from a REAL Patient Advocate. Also Community Care is stating they are backlogged with referrals 30-90 days behind, as well as being told your medications are now "non formulary" and pending, that you're an "uppity patient" for requesting and advocating the best quality care. You will be denied GYN care if you request it each year, now at 5 years. It is sad having to constantly call them to do their job every 6 months! VA Website has changed to now you can't secure message your Provider, Pharmacy, or any Referral Clinic you currently see for refills or general info, when you try to reply using older reply messages it will state the message is "too old" to communicate your needs...further hindering your care systemically. They do not care about your mental or physical well being, just their job security.

If I could give a zero I would. They make you a appointment and THEY DON'T KEEP THEM OR CALL YOU WITH ANY INFO.

I’m newer to the VA system so I’ve heard nothing but nightmares about waiting and waiting. Everything here has been done in a very timely manor with respect and positive attitude. Never once have I ran into an issue. I have to give a super 10* rating to the security guard at the front Ms. April she introduces herself to everyone who walks through the door and puts a smile on your face. She knows the layout of the clinic like no other.

From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. Dr. Raj was awesome and her examination was thorough. She explained her findings in terms that I could easily understand. I would recommend this office to my Veteran brothers and sisters! I don't remember the name of the technician who did my initial examination, but he was also very professional. I didn't wait longer than 20 minutes and I was 20 minutes early for my appointment! I needed a new prescription for my glasses today and that side of the clinic was equal to the task. Everything went quickly and it was obvious that they care about their patients. VA gets a bad rep but based on my expereiences with the VA medical facilities in the Greater Atlanta Area, you should not base you expectations on the complaints you may have heard. Some of our brothers and sisters have been through alot and their patience is often lacking. They don't feel entitled, but depending on where they've lived, there may have been to facilities in other statges that may have been found wanting. Allow yourself to be pleasently surprised at the Tucker VA Eye Clinic!

Today I had my first ever visit to the VA. Based on the bad press the VA always gets i was expecting the worst. I was very surprised and pleased with the care I received. Everyone (the check-in clerk, triage nurse, lab tech, and doctor) was pleasant, professional, and delivered A+ service. Thank you for taking good care of me today.

By far the worst Va clinic!!! I mean ridiculous; my appt was cancelled on the day of.; Unable to reach a rep at the clinic….on hold for over 35 minutes . This is very frustrating!!! This clinic really doesn’t care about veterans!!!!!!! Waited over a month for this appointment; sad I can’t afford My own insurance at this time but as a veteran this is a total let down!!!!! Zero out of zero!!!!!
