About BHG Virginia Beach Treatment Center

During MAT, FDA-approved medications are combined with mental health counseling to address the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of addiction. Individual counseling, group counseling, and dual diagnosis treatment are provided. The medications assist individuals by mitigating withdrawal symptoms and reducing cravings, allowing for a greater chance of success in recovery. The counseling portion of the program helps individuals work through the underlying issues that perpetuate their addictive tendencies. Clients learn new coping skills and strategies to live a life of recovery.

As a person progresses in their treatment program, it is common to step down their frequency of care. Aftercare services provide ongoing support through counseling and self-help groups.

Behavioral Health Group BHG – Virginia Beach Treatment Center accepts most insurance plans, including Anthem, Beacon, Magellan, Cigna, Ambetter, and more. Out of network benefits may vary, so it is important to verify coverage with your provider prior to starting treatment.

Kara Zuege had these remarks about Ms. Elle. Ms. Elle has given me something I’ve been without for a very long time: true support and someone in my corner. With her assistance, I have been able to set both mental and physical goals and work toward achieving them. I appreciate her so much for reminding me what it feels like to accomplish something and to experience the reward of putting forth effort and working hard. She has guided me not only in my journey of overcoming substance abuse but also in many other areas of my life. I feel more than blessed to have been assigned to Ms. Elle, who has always gone above and beyond expectations and has been there every step of the way to keep me grounded and focused on the prize. I look forward to continuing this journey with one of BHG’s best counselors.

Sorry not sorry, I had a horrendous experience at this location.. I was a transfer, so technically all I really needed was a dose verification from the last place I was. After over 2 hours, They said they couldn't get in touch with them. I called myself and got ahold of them immediately.. I then wait another 2 hours in the lobby waiting area and never saw anyone. 20 minutes before closing they call me back for a urine screen and bloodwork. After I complete that I go to the dosing window, answer a few questions and assume I'm about to dose, only to be told to go back out to the lobby. I sit out there another few minutes, they call me over to another section of the building just to tell me and another man we are unable to dose that day. I was of course livid. Anyways, I suck it up and return the next day.. I saw a lady who told me I was not to wait today, staff had been instructed to avoid that at all costs. I wait an hour after I saw here to produce another drug screen and go back out to the lobby for another 45 minutes.. so I've been there on the second day for two hours and only gotten a drug screen accomplished so imagine my frustration.. I get called back to sign consent forms where I then asked did she think I would dose today? She said 'she didn't like to be rushed' and she didn't know, 'it's a process' and 'you still have other people to see'.. not once did she seem concerned about my well being or how I was physically at all.. she seemed to like to see me squirm at the fact of not being able to dose.. I literally felt like she was enjoying my discomfort and toying with me, taking her time in a way to make sure we ran out of time. I somewhat expressed my distress and she refused to complete the consent and took me to the NP office and told her I'd like to see her.. I had asked to see or do whatever it took to get the process in motion.. I never asked to see the NP, I feel as if the consent form lady walked me to her office just to waste more time. As we walked back to the consent form office, I brushed past her coming into her office. If you are on methadone and you've already missed a day and you're at risk of missing another day and then have to restart your entire dose, you understand my frustration and discomfort.. anyway, I was then told they 'did not wish to treat me.' So here I am, at the hospital to ensure I get my dose today so I don't have to start over. I also have to find a clinic further away because of their lack of professional service, education of my condition and more importantly, empathy.. Avoid this place at all costs. Seriously. There's more I could include.. PM for more information. I'm just over it for now.

Accepted Insurance

BHG Virginia Beach Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in Virginia requires careful planning and execution. Due to complex family dynamics, intervention services are often necessary to help families successfully navigate the process. An intervention specialist can help family members plan what they will say and then facilitate the conversation. This expert also educates everyone involved about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

When men and women in Virginia participate in group therapy sessions, they learn to freely express their emotions in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and begin to understand the link between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are associated with addictive behavior.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy helps you understand and manage the emotional and physical responses that often follow witnessing or experiencing traumatic events. Using therapeutic interventions, your therapist works with you to reframe that experience, which in turn reduces your anxiety and helps you regain control over your life.

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

This is a new experience for me and my partner. The counselors and director of counseling seem to care a lot. However, dosing has a few problems to lookout for. Sometimes they only have one nurse available which contributes to long lines. Then there are confidentiality issues. The good news is that counseling seems to have your back especially Liz. Update: Several problems came up during the course of treatment. BHG made me have a false sense of being listened to, only to be ignored when legitimate issues were brought forward. They are not consistent in how they follow rules either but are quick to lock the door even sometimes before time is up. Just be careful.
