While during transitions things are usually always rocky and a bit unsettled as can be expected, Ive seen the positive greatly outweigh any of the negitive in the almost 3 yrs. I have been a patient. If you follow the rules and the handbook given on your first day, there are normally no problems. Occasionally things do happen as with any buss. Or situation. If you really want the help, it is there. The entire staff from councilors to nursing to admin. Truely cares about people, and it shows. Today, I wittnessed a medical emergency happen in the waiting room. Staff went above and beyond in handling it. Most Especially the nurse in charge Ms. Carol. She showed total class and professionalism in how she handled the situation as well as showed her personal side and that she really cares about her patients. She really deserves an extra day off paid or somthing of the nature as she earned it and then some this morning. She made sure everything was handled by protocal and also stayed right beside the lady reassuing her she was there, had 9q1 on the way, and that she would be ok. As scary as the situation was, Ms. Carol remained capm and focused the entire time. Being it was a half an hour before closing on a Sat. With a packed waiting room, I am quite sure she had to also stay late. Its easy to complain about things we dont like. What I wittnessed today with staff really touched my heart and I fealt the need to share some POSITIVE about an expierence at BHG.

I have had mostly excellent experiences with Brightview (formerly called Right Path) since 2019. The doctors have been great, they care and so do most of the other staff such as reception, counselors and care coordinators. I have had a few problems with medication prior authorizations that were incorrectly filled out and problems with 2 different counselors but they normally fix these issues very quickly. My biggest complaint is that you can’t call the office directly anymore and all calls go to a “call center”. Sometimes they handle your issue immediately and sometimes it takes many days and repeated calls about something simple. This wouldn’t happen if you could call your clinic directly! Despite a few issues, I still give them a 5 star rating because the office workers care about you and your health.

my review is specifically of the APY unit, the lesser intensity of the 2 adult units. Listen, nobody likes being admitted to a recovery center. it’s not a luxury hotel, it is designed to keep you safe and regulate you and this place serves its purpose well. The care team genuinely has a heart for providing care for the patients (with maybe one or two misfit employees who arent as motivated by kindness, as in any work force.) I felt respected and dignified during my stay there. i watched staff interact with difficult patients and offer them the same grace and dignity. The groups were largely effective and the meals were as to be expected with regards to my dietary needs. daily art therapy was delightful! I didnt love having to be there but i want anyone considering APY to know i had a positive experience. I don’t want to return but if i ever need to i would know i’d be in capable hands.

It has taken me a minute to get my life back on track after being released from serving 5 years in the Virginia State Prison System. Trust me I never thought in a million years that 5 years in prison would be a part of my story. But it was part of Gods plan.
You see God had to sit me down for 5 years to gain perspective on just how reckless my life had become.
Before prison I was a womanizing, home wrecking drunkard. I had no respect towards anyone’s marriage vows, let alone my own. Because I was being selfish I chose to get involved with an old high school girlfriend that was married with 4 kids.
Our relationship should have been left in 1995. To spare you the details. I made my usual selfish mistakes and caused so much anger in a woman who truly loved and tried to help me. In that anger she attacked me with fists, instead of responding in my usual humble blocking of fists, I met her with the same rage she had towards me.
In the end of this mess I was sentenced to 45 years by a Virginia Judge (https://www.richmondbar.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Chesterfield.pdf )with a 6 years (5 years/2 months with good time) active sentence to serve in the horribly dysfunctional Virginia Prison System.
One of the few people that believes in second chances is Dr. Paul Hardy from Recovery 4 Recovery for Life. Because the Virginia DOC system is so corrupt and dysfunctional I didn’t have a home plan nor was my Interstate Compact Completed in time for me to return to Washington State. I honestly had no where to go once I was released!
All I had to my name was $1200 on my books from a measly .45 cents/hour job in prison and what ever my family was able scrape up and send to me.
Dr. Paul took a chance on having someone convicted of a violent crime (domestic battery) and offered me a second chance by allowing me to live at the recovery house.
This opportunity allowed me the time to get back on my feet while I waited (2 months) for my Interstate Compact to be approved for Washington State.
If it wasn’t for Recovery 4 Life, Dr. Paul, and the awesome owners (Stacie Gallinal) of Marco’s Pizza at 1544 Laskin Rd #212, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. I honestly could have been homeless and jobless.
You see if you just listen to Gods plan. He will provide you all the help you need if you’re willing to accept it!
I hope one day to share my testimony with the world.
God Bless

Lakeisha Jenkins, Jennifer Small, Anthony Howard, Jasmine Parker, Che Barnes, Janice Wilkes, and Lynn Fields all stand out for their professionalism, dedication, and compassion.
Every time I’ve had the chance to interact with them, they’ve been conscientious, approachable, and committed to helping people get the resources and support they need. It’s not easy work, but they carry it with patience and care, and it shows in the way they treat people.
In a community, having an organization like the CSB makes all the difference — but having staff members who really care about the people they serve is what takes it to the next level. These six individuals in particular deserve recognition for the outstanding job they do, and I’m grateful for the impact they’re making here in Hampton and Newport News.

Kind of a mixed bag here.
On one hand, this place saved my life. I'll say it again.
It. Saved. My. Life.
When I first went here several years ago, I thought about suicide every day. I hated everyone and everything. I had no capacity for love, even for my family, who I saw as enemies. I was afraid to go near roads because of the overwhelming urge to step into traffic. I screamed at others so loudly I'd lose my voice, for the smallest of slights.
I didn't go outside or leave the house if I could help it. I was facing homelessness because I could no longer handle the pressures of being in public, let alone working. My capacity for stress management was all but gone, and my propensity for violence and rage was always just below the surface, if I was lucky. My family was at a loss to help me, and finding help for my mental state had largely fallen to me to handle, which only compounded my agitation and hopelessness.
This place was scary to go to at first, but I gave it a try anyway. The therapist I was assigned had not yet completed her training, and was more of a general behavioral therapist rather than the a specialist in borderline and depressive behavior.
Still, she gave me someone to talk to. Just one hour a week and it made a ton of difference. Not only that, but when I hurt myself, she helped me find a psychiatrist to stabilize my brain chemistry. The therapist taught me about neuroplasticity and the ability to form new, positive habits, which I took to heart. I really admired the way she took to learning to skills in order to meet my needs, despite no obligation to do so whatsoever.
In time, with her guidance, I was able to find hope again. I learned to be productive, and a year and a half later, I found a job. A year ago I found an apartment of my own. I still struggle, but now I have tools, and a specialist. I am no longer on welfare, and I can pick myself up when I fall down. Being discharged from the place was a triumph because I had learned so much and gained enough semblance of self to stand again, even if it was ultimately an emotional limp at the time.
I went back a year later because after twenty four years of smoking pot, I found that I could not stop. It was really bothering me, so I asked for help from the place that had saved me so dearly not long before. I met an intake counselor who was clearly a pothead himself (one knows his own). When I told him about my addiction, he mocked me for it, telling me that vapes and weed weren't the same (tell that to my brain). Then he dismissed me. It's been two years and I still struggle with this. I quit booze and smoking cigs after 20 years, but I have no support for what was once considered a benign activity. One of the reasons I struggle is because, despite modern studies, I have no emotional or verbal support for my efforts. I am very reluctant to go back here and be mocked for my efforts again. So they helped, and they also sentenced me to a prolonged addiction due to one man's dismissive bias.
Mixed bag.

During my time there I meet several people who help me get back on the right path. There was allways someone to talk to when I needed it. I didn’t feel like I was there as a punishment I felt as if I was there to fix my life. I felt like I was cared abt and that I had worth.
They help me get on the right medication and learn good coping, communication. I would recommend this facility to anyone with teens that need a lil extra support.
