About Childrens Service Center

Children’s Service Center is an addiction treatment center for youth living in the Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, area. I find it admirable that they realize the importance of teaching our children the importance of having a healthy outlook when it comes to drugs and alcohol. Some young people are already struggling with addiction, and this center knows how to intervene in that situation. They are an outpatient clinic, which means your young one can still attend school and doesn’t have to make a full commitment as far as scheduling goes. They are also a dual diagnosis center. This means they treat people with co-occurring mental health issues that coincide with their substance addiction. This is more common than you’d think.

Their outpatient program offers individual therapy, which is a crucial service for the recovery process. This service puts you one on one with a therapist. This gives your child the opportunity to feel like they can express themselves and be heard. They also put a heavy emphasis on family involvement. They’ll help your child put together his or her own prevention plan and strategy in order to combat temptation and peer pressure that might surface in the future. They also offer interventions if your child is heavily involved in substance use and needs encouragement to get treatment.

Once your child completes treatment they may be able to receive aftercare. These services provide ongoing support for long term success. They may include continued counseling, support groups and referrals to community resources.

This place is a disgrace. They called in our adolescent child s prescription wrong multiple times over two months and were unwilling to even call us back and try to correct their many mistakes. To compound the issue, they then canceled my son s upcoming appointments rather than take ownership of their incompetence. Absolute appalled by the lack of concern of accountability from the Childrens Service Center and NP Parham.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
With a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you can participate in intensive rehabilitation treatment with the ability to return home at the end of the day. For a weekly minimum of 20 hours, a partial hospitalization program can take place up to 5 days a week for an average of 90 days. During PHP treatment, you can receive relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing in Pennsylvania gives you the opportunity to share your perspective and explore your ideas and motivation for change. Your therapist will walk you through the four steps of engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning to empower you to make any desired changes in your life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

There's is no way this place is not 5 star. I am 50 and have lived around the country and never ever received 5 star care from therapy to the case management to the out patient psych clinic. I can tell u first hand from the fiscal department all the way to the top director this place cares about one thing it's clients they do not put money or time over people. This is the only place I've gotten any results since I was 5. If your having a bad comment then u just don't know this place or didn't do your part. It's a two way street they can only offer and give u suggestions and support and stand with u through rough times and I'm alive today because childrens service center didn't give up in me. I am building healthy relationships with my children, my self esteem went from lower then dirt in the carpet to sky high. My drug dependency is at a zero I am sober . My health is at all all time high. I have never had so many people working for myself and at least o0 others I know the way this place does. If u haven't done your part or don't like something u dint have to run and leave a bad comment or stop going they are open and willing to guide u help u stand by u so please it hurts to see this isn't 5 star and I'm putting on the people leaving the reviews I've been going here a long time and do various different programs they have and my life just keeps getting better. Thank u to everyone from every secretary to the rehab to case management for all of your hard work and dedication to all of your clients equally .

Some ways of communication are outdated like not being able to leave direct voicemails with people, only leaving with office afaik. But they were great help in applying for Medicaid and counseling services. Getting appointment is difficult due to the demand for the current counselors , which is very unfortunate but understandable. Feels like a safe place to be in. I wish that we could communicate with counselors over other means than email

I love this place. I'm 49 I've been going here for almost 6 years. Throughout my life I've been to so so many psychiatrist and therapists and never got any results only ever did surface work until I started getting treatment here I swear to u if it weren't for children's service center I wouldn't be here today. My therapist dawn goes above and beyond never have I had anyone cate about me the way she and her supervisor has. This place has been with me through the worst and never gave up on me. Never did I ever think I'd be happy again. I wake up excited for each day. When things get hard they stay with me they take the time and I am telling u this place is not no 15 minute and see u later place they get to the root cause they actually give results. I will never switch. They care so much that make sure that u are ok and take as much time as they possibly can to help u. I recommend this place to.all adults and children struggling with mental health, anxiety, depression and the Robinson addiction center is top of the top the best if u want to get real results and feel better. I love children's service from Alice the secretary to the greatest therapist I have ever had in 49 years Dawn O'Donnell I love this place

I hate to give this facility a one star rating because not everyone who works there is terrible. However, from day one it was a nightmare for me. I had come from CCS in Wilkes-Barre. I had to find a new nurse practitioner once they closed. I was scheduled to see BRENDA TOCKET SMITH after three months of trying to get an appointment. My appointment with BRENDA TOCKET SMITH was cancelled twice, once while I was sitting in the parking lot of CSC twenty minutes before my appointment. Meanwhile, my prescription (non narcotic) was dangerously close to running out. Once I finally saw BRENDA TOCKET SMITH she COULD'T CARE LESS. You're lucky if BRENDA TOCKET SMITH remembers your name. BRENDA TOCKET SMITH screwed up my FMLA on several occasions, even up until today (9/21/24). I've recently decided to end my medical relationship with BRENDA TOCKET SMITH after not being able to get in touch with her for two and a half weeks and see an actual professional again. Today, (9/21/24), I received a bill from BRENDA TOCKET SMITH from five months ago. BRENDA TOCKET SMITH does not care about your mental health.

If you are Latino or Black DO NOT GO THERE they are racist. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. MICHAEL in May 2024 and as soon as I walked in I saw his reaction, He refused to evaluate my child because We are Bilingual and He said He needed to make sure my child was able to underdtant him, this not even 5 minutes after walking in the exam room. I expressed my concerns and that I consent him to evaluate my child, also my child does not speak a second language the bilingual was me the Mother and He still refused; however, I called back 2 days after to request an appointment and He called me back saying that He is the professional and He knows what He is doing. Sometimes physicians thinks We as citizens do not know our rights and in fact We do. I am also reporting him to the Board of Psychologyst in the State of Pennsylvania. What if a patient does not know their rights? why refuse to evaluate a child just because Family is Bilingual? and recommended me to take my child somewhere else. I am making this public, so be aware and take your child somewhere else.
