About Cornerstone Healing Center – Addiction & Mental Health Scottsdale

You’ll benefit from an individualized treatment plan with blended proven and holistic practices. Their programs focus on addressing the underlying causes of addiction from multiple angles. That way you can heal your mind, body, and soul while rebuilding your support system to promote long-term recovery.

Whether you live at home while completing treatment or require 24/7 ongoing support, you can find care that fits your situation. You focus solely on recovery in a comfortable environment with breathtaking desert views, a pool, a fitness center, and more. Or continue maintaining your responsibilities at home while attending treatment on a schedule that works for you.

What stands out most to me are the many different levels of addiction treatment they offer. Along with residential care and aftercare, you can access day treatment and multiple levels of intensive outpatient programs. They offer truly individualized care with options for three, four, and five day intensive outpatient programs. You can also attend their virtual intensive outpatient program from the comfort of your home.

I also love how they take a holistic approach to treatment. You’ll still participate in treatment best practices, like individual, group and family therapy. However, they’ll complement care with approaches to heal you wholly, including nutrition education, mindfulness, yoga, art therapy and more.

Another incredible feature is their recovery coaching track. Similar to a therapist, your recovery coach supports you in your journey to long term recovery. The best part is that their guidance and support continue even after you complete treatment. You’ll benefit from an after treatment action plan to hold you accountable and keep you on track. Your recovery coach can help you address daily challenges, overcome stressful situations, resolve legal issues, find employment and so much more.

Accepted Insurance

Cornerstone Healing Center – Addiction & Mental Health Scottsdale works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

telehealth iconTelehealth

Telehealth in Arizona lets you speak with your health care provider online via smartphone or computer. You can call, video chat, or send messages from wherever is convenient for you, rather than seeing your provider in person.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

I've never been to a residential living house to get sober so I don't have anything to compare it to. I do however know what I was dreading or why I fought it for so long. Cornerstone changed my life and helped me gain perspective on myself. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and honestly care about each individual that walks through the door. If you are ready to take that step, I would definitely recommend Cornerstone

Response from the owner
Theresa, thank you for opening up and sharing your experience. We know how difficult it can be to take that first step toward recovery, and we’re so proud of the courage you showed in doing so. It’s wonderful to hear that we helped you gain a new perspective and provided the caring, supportive environment you needed.

Had only been to one other rehab facility before being blessed to find Cornerstone they enforce 100% abstinence which wasn't what I wanted but is exactly what I needed. The bht's and therapist there are great and very considerate of the individual addict or alcoholic. I completed iop5, 4, and 3 they truly want to see you do better and give you the tools to do it. Honestly though I have come to understand that its more about the people you surround yourself with in treatment rather than those who work there. Cornerstone is very thorough and strict about making the environment healthy safe and secure so you are able to learn how to be human again. Absolutely blessed to have gone there im now a year sober and made quite a few friends during my time there. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone who is taking their recovery seriously.

Response from the owner
Cameron, thank you for sharing your journey so openly. It means the world to hear that Cornerstone was exactly what you needed—even if it wasn’t what you expected at first. Your growth, your commitment, and your honesty are powerful. We’re honored to have been part of your recovery and inspired by your dedication to building a strong foundation. Congratulations on everything you’ve achieved. You’re always part of this community.

Cornerstone quite literally saved my life. As a recovering fentanyl addict, I walked through their doors broken mentally, physically, and spiritually. What I found was not just treatment, but a level of care that felt human, patient, and deeply committed to healing the whole person. Their patience and tolerance allowed me to move at the pace I needed. Their high quality, structured approach gave me the tools and accountability to rebuild my life. And their dedication to healing mind, body, and spirit reminded me daily that I was worth fighting for even when I didn’t believe it myself. If it weren’t for Cornerstone, I wouldn’t just be sober I wouldn’t be alive, let alone thriving the way I am today. They didn’t just treat the addiction. They helped me transform. For that, I am forever grateful.

Response from the owner
Chris, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your journey. Reading your words is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. You showed so much courage walking through our doors, and we’re deeply honored to have walked alongside you through your healing. Your transformation speaks volumes—not just about recovery, but about the strength and worth that’s always been inside you. We're so grateful to be part of your story, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. Keep thriving—you deserve every bit of the life you're building.

I graduated, and drank 2 times within a month, told on myself to my fellow graduates. But I did stop after my 2nd slip for good. Sorry guys 😆. Great rehab, the therapy is what helped me the most, because when I did slip those 2 times, it just didn't "hit" like it used to. Overcame my trauma and felt it 1st hand that alcohol was no longer a valid crutch nor enjoyable at all👏😆 Tell Lionel i said "my bad" but I finally did it.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your experience. Slips can be part of the journey, and what truly matters is your ability to recognize it, take accountability, and continue moving forward — which you clearly did. That takes strength and self-awareness.

We’re so glad to hear the therapy made a lasting impact. When old patterns stop feeling the same, it’s often a sign of real, internal change — and it sounds like you experienced exactly that.

Congratulations again on your progress, and thank you for letting us be part of your path. We’re proud of you and always here if you need us.

Cornerstone Healing Center provides a quality of care that I never thought I could afford. I moved to Arizona with nothing but received insurance through the great State of Arizona. Through it I received mental health support as well as substance abuse treatment. I am now a new father, present in my community, an Arizona tax payer ( I stayed 😀) and forever grateful for The Cornerstone Family. It’s mind blowing to type this right now.❤️🫡 The staff, therapists, medical staff, behavioral health technicians and the owner are all fully invested in giving someone hope when they need it most. Forever Grateful and active in my recovery. Sober date 4-15-2023

Response from the owner
Thank you for taking the time to share this. Watching stories like yours unfold is exactly why we built Cornerstone in the first place.

You came to Arizona with nothing, and now you're a father, a member of the community, sober, and thriving. That’s incredible. I hope you know how much strength and courage it takes to do what you’ve done — and we’re beyond proud of you.

It means the world to hear that our team was there for you when you needed it most. Everyone here — from our therapists and BHTs to our medical team and support staff — pours their heart into this work. To know it made a difference in your life is the greatest reward.

Thank you for staying connected, for giving back, and for letting us be part of your journey. 4/15/23 — that’s a date worth celebrating every year.

With so much gratitude,
