About Cornerstone Healing Center – Addiction & Mental Health Scottsdale

You’ll benefit from an individualized treatment plan with blended proven and holistic practices. Their programs focus on addressing the underlying causes of addiction from multiple angles. That way you can heal your mind, body, and soul while rebuilding your support system to promote long-term recovery.

Whether you live at home while completing treatment or require 24/7 ongoing support, you can find care that fits your situation. You focus solely on recovery in a comfortable environment with breathtaking desert views, a pool, a fitness center, and more. Or continue maintaining your responsibilities at home while attending treatment on a schedule that works for you.

What stands out most to me are the many different levels of addiction treatment they offer. Along with residential care and aftercare, you can access day treatment and multiple levels of intensive outpatient programs. They offer truly individualized care with options for three, four, and five day intensive outpatient programs. You can also attend their virtual intensive outpatient program from the comfort of your home.

I also love how they take a holistic approach to treatment. You’ll still participate in treatment best practices, like individual, group and family therapy. However, they’ll complement care with approaches to heal you wholly, including nutrition education, mindfulness, yoga, art therapy and more.

Another incredible feature is their recovery coaching track. Similar to a therapist, your recovery coach supports you in your journey to long term recovery. The best part is that their guidance and support continue even after you complete treatment. You’ll benefit from an after treatment action plan to hold you accountable and keep you on track. Your recovery coach can help you address daily challenges, overcome stressful situations, resolve legal issues, find employment and so much more.

I spent close to 5 months here at Cornerstone. It’s my second time in treatment and this place truly saved my life. From support through PHP to IOP3 , my case manager Holly, the navigators, and my incredible therapist Emma and Evan. All of the staff really want you to succeed. It’s very structured here and they hold you accountable. I am currently 7 months sober, which is the longest time I’ve ever had in the last 15 years. They helped me through substance abuse as well as my mental health struggles. My peers have always been loving and supportive. I attend the Monday night alumni meeting to keep in contact with all the friends I’ve made here during my journey. They encouraged me to get a job, and truly wanted to see me succeed. I would HIGHLY recommend Cornerstone to anybody struggling with substance abuse or mental health. I am forever grateful for them laying down the foundation for a better life. I don’t have to live in misery anymore, and it’s all thanks to Cornerstone.

Priscilla, thank you for taking the time to write this.
Five months is a long stretch to give yourself to this work, and coming back a second time takes a kind of courage people don’t talk about enough. A lot of folks won’t walk back through the door after a first try didn’t stick. You did. And then you stayed, you let people in, you let the structure hold you when it would’ve been easier to push back against it. That matters. I wish more people could read what you wrote and know it’s okay to try again.

Seven months. After 15 years. I don’t want to gloss over that. You’ve probably had more first days than you can count, and this stretch is different because you’re different. You let the structure hold you. You let people in. You got a job. You’re still coming Monday nights. Those aren’t small things stacked together — that’s a whole life being rebuilt in real time.
We didn’t save you, Priscilla. You did the hard part. We just got to be in the room while you did it, and that’s a privilege.

We’re super proud of you. See you Monday.

Cornerstone was a life-changing experience for me. The staff genuinely care about people and truly want to see clients get better, heal, and live a sober life. Throughout my time there, I learned a lot about myself, gained structure, and became a stronger person mentally and emotionally. The environment gave me an important foundation and helped reset my perspective in a major way. Recovery is never easy, but being around people who care and who hold you accountable made a real difference for me. No program is perfect, and there were moments I didn’t agree with every decision, but overall I’m extremely grateful for my experience there. The support, guidance, and lessons I gained meant a lot to me. Thank you to the staff and everyone at Cornerstone for helping me move in a better direction. I’ll always appreciate what I learned there.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Cornerstone Healing Center – Addiction & Mental Health Scottsdale works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Telehealth in Arizona lets you speak with your health care provider online via smartphone or computer. You can call, video chat, or send messages from wherever is convenient for you, rather than seeing your provider in person.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

I was a resident in treatment for 28 days at the North Scottsdale location. My experience was second-to-none, and I would like to thank each member of the staff. This place gave me my life back. They helped me uncover the root of my problems. They guided me through intensive therapy. Their staff took genuine care of my well-being through a balanced routine of individual and group therapy, education, physical, and nutritional practices. They allowed me space and time to look inward to process grief, trauma, self-destructive tendencies, behavioral issues, addiction, and mental health issues. Michael handled my individual therapy and lead process group. His wisdom, charisma, and honesty lead me through breakthrough after breakthrough from my trauma, my triggers, and the root causes of my behaviors. He helped me outline a treatment plan suited to my individual needs and goals. He was the maestro and I the musician. Cami provided education, lead group discussion, and gave us tools daily to help me through treatment. She provided clarity and helped me navigate the deeps waters of my issue simply by supplying the life vest to keep me afloat. As the case manager she helped me navigate the balance between my wants and my needs. Gerry was the behind-the-scenes director of the house, the staff, and the structure of my care. She managed every in and out of the schedule, provided a foundation for the house, a structure for the day-to-day needs of the residents and the staff who cared for them. She is the ultimate mother hen, tediously and tirelessly devoted to overall well-being of all who enter the home. Patsy is the resident chef and an absolute angel of a person. Not only did she provide the residents with the best meal plan, catering to the needs of everyone, she professionally and excellently prepared and configured every meal. She wasn't just the chef, she was the glue to bring everyone together. Having her around during the day offered a safe space to communicate, to show care, and bring love, light, and kindness to the home. She will give it to you straight with a smile and then drag your ass to the gym when you’re ready. The nurses, Layla and Vicki, were so wonderful. Responsible for keeping our meds, appointments, and care daily. They meticulously took notes and monitored our mental and physical well-being. Not only so but were a part of our lives lead medical and mental health classes and facilitated group activities. Beautiful souls and caregivers. The BHT’s were outstanding and uniquely suited to run the inner workings of the house and its processes. Keeping the schedule, maintaining our accomodations, managing our routine, schedule, and structure. Krispy (spelling?) was a perfect gentleman and a caring soul. Devoted and willing to do anything needed with a smile. He was genuine, hilarious, thoughtful, and kind. Easy to talk to and helpful in any way. Nate was a gentle, observant, and spiritual soul. Relatable, considerate, and an advocate to all. He showed up with a willingness to work and help others, always. Brian, a man of true integrity, wisdom, and heart. Often he would engage with every individual and provide honesty, guidance, and actionable advice. A real no BS straight shooter, but a loving, thoughtful and caring man genuinely looking out for the well-being of everyone he interacted with. Desha, a hardworking, insightful, and calming presence. Willing and able to meet anyone at their level. Considerate, giving and thoughtful, another true gift to the program. Jay is a yoga master born of light and love, ready to guide you to peace. Master T is a man wrapped in light and positivity. As a trainer he challenges your physical body and sharpen your mind along the way. I will forever be grateful to each and every one of the people who contributed to helping me get back to my wife and children a better and whole man, forever changed for the better. If you need help please seek this place out. I promise they will take care of you and in turn help you take care of yourself. You are worth it!

I started at Cornerstone in December of 2024, thinking I would be in and out in the virtual program. Now, see I needed a liver transplant and thinking it would help get me on the list quicker do this and be done. Todd My counselor and the rest of the staff helped me through my ups and downs and understood when I wasn’t with it! But I still showed! They saved my life and were there for before and after transplant. The staff showed me I needed to love myself before I could work on myself but I needed to work on myself before I could love myself. Now I get the pleasure to be part of the staff. I always say it is hard work but when you get it , you get!
