About Crouse Hospital – South Crouse Avenue

Crouse Hospital runs an addiction treatment program that’s located in Syracuse, New York. They help individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders, too.

If you need to detox before pursuing your sober life, they offer medication assisted treatment that’ll help you with withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Their levels of care include both inpatient and outpatient programs.

These programs can be gender-specific and can take place in the daytime or evening. Aside from their therapy options, they offer relapse prevention programs and courses such as anger management.

Their programs offer individual counseling, group therapy, and more holistic services like recreational therapy, vocational exploration, and leisure and social skills education. You’ll get great experience with developing sober living skills and, if you’re a parent, they even have parenting courses.

Their individual therapy will help you focus on past traumas with a therapist one-on-one, while their group therapy will give you the chance to get some much needed peer support. Either way, you’ll find a lot to benefit from here at this clinic.

Would give zero stars if I could, I don t even know where to begin. I was transferred from a nearby hospital at 4:45 AM. I was transferred because i was supposed to have my baby but had a complicated issue with my heart that I was told, they could be better equipped for HERE. At that hospital, they did all the necessary bloodwork at that hospital. Stick me 6 times to find a good vein. Water broke, and stuck at 3 cm since 9 PM. I get here, they tell me my water is NOT broken ( the urine sample still sits there from 11:30 am and it s now 3 pm) , they have no checked my cervix, and the attention to a heart condition is terrible especially when I am 39 weeks pregnant. They told me at 10 AM that they think I should have my baby here. Yeah I don t think so. I will die on this hill that my baby will not be born somewhere where everything is an afterthought. I have been here 11 HOURS. Cardiology? NOT EVEN ON CALL. I will take my chances with my original hospital. I am willingly signing out because I cannot afford $22 for 12 hours and then they keep me here!

The worst hospital I ve ever seen. My grandfather went there after having a mini stroke, next day he had a feeding tube in without consent, then he went downhill so quick. They almost killed him, $140,000 later for really bad care, if I could give them a ZERO! I would hands down. I wouldn t take a dying goldfish there.

I see a lot of negative reviews so I wanted to leave my positive one. This past Friday 3/21/24, I had a small surgery done in the physicians office building by my obgyn. I had to go to the office a few days prior for pre-op as well and every single person i spoke to was fantastic! From the receptionist to the anesthesia team to the nurses. They all were super helpful, friendly, didn't make me feel stupid for asking questions and were extremely thorough with information and hippa practices. After my surgery, the nurses in the post-op area were absolutely fantastic! Marilyn and Heather were their names. I had some issues coming down from anesthesia and got nauseated and shaky and Marilyn saved the day by bringing me some sugar infused iv fluids and checking on me constantly. After a few minutes I was feeling so much better. They had me laughing and having a great conversation. I cannot say anything bad about my experience and I want to thank

Accepted Insurance

Crouse Hospital – South Crouse Avenue works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Yeah this 2 person a day guest policy is just ridiculous at this point. Two at a time? Ok. But two of the same people for one whole day is just absurd and honestly selfish on the hospitals part.

I honestly can't say enough bad things about this hospital. First, they don't send you just one bill. They send you multiple. Second, if you do the financial application I can assure you they will mess it up someway somehow. Third if the application does go through they don't send notices to the other departments letting them know you have a discount. I just got off the phone with someone and she literally said and I qoute "we just wait for the grumpy phone calls". You have got to be kidding me. 😒 I can't believe that a hospital would run like this. The fact that your departments don't work together is insane and extremely unprofessional. It's hard enough going to the hospital let's make it a little easier on the patients.

My father was recently admitted with A stroke, I found all but 1 nurse in the ER to have no compassion, they came in did the minimum that they were supposed to do , they didn’t even know he had a catheter bag that was jammed up between his legs for over 8 hours of being there, you had to beg for water and finally after asking over and over I started buying water out of the vending machine for my father, There was a total lack of communication, my father and the family didn’t knew what was going on as far as test results, we didn’t even know he had a stroke until 26 hours after his arrival. There’s no kind of doctor updates. Also you are unable to access test results on my chart until after your discharged, that makes zero sense as your trying to see results while the patient is currently being treated. the code they ask for on my chart in case anyone else has this same issue is the patients FIRST AND LAST INITIAL IN UPPERCASE LETTERS, THE 2 Digit MONTH AND 4 DIGIT YEAR YOU WERE JUST ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL. He was sent home 2 days after he was admitted. I will add they did do all appropriate testing that was needed to diagnose him properly but we were in the dark and unaware of everything that was being done.

One is far too high, where are the negative numbers? >0!!! I've been in the waiting room of the er. For 5 hours listening to all of the nurses joking and having a great time. No one has ANY idea of what is ging on. One of the nurses remarked loudly to a male triage nurse saying "I think you talking shit bout me". 7 "professinal" at last count sitting in the nurses station joking loudly and it must be shift change...Why can No one do anything? If I ran my business this way I would be closed in a week! This is absolutely ridiculous. I expect some one will give a phone call or text me in a few days but this is broken! I am sure that this will not be addressed.

I’m writing to praise the RN’s , Nurse Assistants and student nurses of 4 North. We are receiving excellent care from these wonderful, knowledgeable, kind, skilled professionals. Each of them go above and beyond to treat patients with dignity and respect while communicating effectively with patients and family. Thank you to Crouse 4 North.
