Recovery in The Wilds of Pennsylvania

Williamsport is a small city in the southeastern part of the Pennsylvania Wilds. The Wilds is a rural and forested area of natural beauty and one of the best outdoor recreation destinations in the United States. It’s also a designated dark sky area for stargazing and has over two million acres of public land with a rich heritage.

Unique School Based Therapy

One of the unique programs offered here is the school based outpatient mental health treatment program. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services licenses the program, and referrals come through the schools.

Their mental health services include assessments, histories and screenings. The program screens for domestic violence, trauma, substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, including anxiety and ADHD. The school based approach offers easily accessible treatment while promoting education.

Psychiatric Services in Lycoming County Pennsylvania

The Williamsport location has psychiatric services as well. The psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations, especially in the context of clients with referred diagnoses and medications. They offer medication management and prescription services.

Specialized Treatment for Problematic Sexual Behaviors

This specialized program serves youth with identified problematic sexual behaviors that are impeding their function at school, home or in the community. The program is typically 12-18 months and provides education and treatment services.

Services include case management, individual therapy and family therapy. Families have weekly contact with the treatment team, and 24/7 crisis management is available if needed. The program is often used as an alternative to out of home placement. It’s also a step down from more restrictive care.

My girlfriend was a client here for just over 2 years. Within the last year, things have gone downhill for her real fast. The staff at the front desk have been extremely rude to her, acted and treated her like she was stupid, and lied to her face not once, but twice about her appointment! She was told twice that she could talk to her therapist, and gave her appointments, only for her to show up both times, EARLY, for them to tell her that her therapist wasn't there and was leaving the practice. When she asked why she wasn't called either time, they said they tried to call her, but she had no calls. When she asked what number they called, they recited her old phone number which she hasn't had for months and she's given them her current number more then once. Just a lot of unprofessionalism all around.

I never had any problems here. The only mistake they made was after I told them numerous times that I couldn t stand to be around pregnant women (due to past trauma issues) they gave me a therapist who was pregnant but that was easily fixed by switching to a different therapist. Not a bad place at all.

Accepted Insurance

Diakon Family Life Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Pennsylvania can be helpful to individuals who are experiencing substance use disorder and various mental health conditions. It helps you identify damaging thought and behavior patterns and replace them with healthy ones.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Pennsylvania is an evidence based technique that involves group therapy, individual therapy, and phone coaching. Group sessions focus on learning behavioral skills. Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to apply what you're learning to your personal situations. Phone coaching allows you to call your therapist during the week for help with challenging situations.

I was asked at the front desk what mental conditions I had and why I was seeking therapy. Could we leave that info for the forms and not announce it to the lobby? Seemed like a blatant privacy violation

It takes a little bit to get an appointment, but once you do you can go as often as your therapist has an opening. Great place to go if you need any type of mental help. Please don't be afraid to reach out. I know I was, but I'm so glad I did. 😊

Reported to me that it was a waste of time talking to my 13 year old daughter if she didn’t want to talk and suggested maybe I try therapy. Had an appointment 30th of November that I had to reschedule due to daughter having an eye appointment that day. Appointment was rescheduled for 12-7-21 which I missed due to having two sick kids at home and not going to work that day which is where I had my appointment day and time written down therefore I forgot about it. Never got a reminder call which is fine however called on 12-9-21 advising was my first day back to work and noticed I missed my appointment and explained why and wanted to reschedule and they advised that I was now discharged. Never even got to have an Initial appointment.

Scheduled an appointment, then received a call the following Monday telling me insurance wouldn’t cover. They only cover you if you have drug or alcohol issues. Insurance verified to them directly it would be covered. I was to receive a call which I didn’t get. Called them and the woman reassured me she’d call me.It’s been 3 weeks now. Extremely disappointed and still struggling to get appointment somewhere.

Had a 6:00 appointment and no one was there can't get ahold of the office at anytime. Wasted my time and never received a call telling me why there was no one there for my appointment.
