I'm from NYS and have been to several rehabs in PA . By far St. Joe's is the best. Offering a holistic approach to recovery with physical therapy , sound bath , swimming, tia chi and so much more. The clinical , RA, and nursing staff are all amazing, person centered and caring! They have a well put together humongous facility for freetime activities as well. Then after completion, its not over. They contact you with follow-up and if willing connect you with the best Alumni program and peer ran staff Melissa. Who could ask for anything more from rehab!!!

The disease of alcoholism took ahold, I was lost. I wanted to suppress my feelings of helplessness, grief, and pain. Lucky for me, a friend suggested Saint Joseph institute as an option. I came into Saint Joe’s scared, with shame and regret, and no vision for a future. I was ready to die and give into the disease to release the pain. Alcohol had a control over me and used every situation in my life to draw me closer to the end. I walked into Saint Joe’s lost but left a better version of myself.
The Saint Joseph inpatient and online itensive outpatient program, Alumni system, and introduction of recovery groups have provided me with a path creating the best version of myself. Thanks to RAs, counselors, community, maintenance, cooks, and more; I learned how to reframe situations in my life and deal with emotions instead of running from them. I still feel regret, but no shame or fear, and I know I have a future.
I developed tools, created supports, and most importantly reconnected with God!
Lauren is a great counselor, and guided me during one on one and small group sessions. Lauren helped tremendously, but she was not the only one who provided crucial supports. Val and her morning waking up with a higher power and personal conversations, Angela with her personal chats and guidance contributed to my process. Along with all counselors who rotated in large group sessions. The people at Saint Joe’s don’t only care about people on their caseloads, but for all who truly seek help from a personalized program of recovery.
The food was good, sleeping arrangement are fine, and other facilities are good. Are there frustrations, yes? Do things go wrong at times, yes? Do plans change at times, yes? But such is life that we are learning to deal with daily. If you are serious about recovery, the people you will have on your side here are the most important thing! They will help guide you to live a better life and deal with life on life’s terms.
If you are honest and committed to the process, they can all help guide you from your darkest moments into a life of light! Thank you: Lauren (counselor), Mike (RA), Dave (RA), Val (counselor), Jade (RA), Angela (counselor), Dave (grounds), Bri (RA), Megan(counselor), Mike (IOP), Steph (IOP), and Melissa (alumni coordinator), and so many more. I am sorry if I didn’t remember everyone’s name, but from kitchen staff, RAs, counselors, they were willing to talk and support my progress. You are all a part of my heart and have been since I left as community leader. I continue to pass it forward to others. I still remember telling Lauren that this journal writing was not going to be for me. I have now written over 80 poems to help me in my personal recovery from this disease. I hope this one helps one of you:
Life’s Tree
My roots may be dirty under the ground.
But it provides for the tree where fruit is now found.
I will not let it rot and wither away.
Sharing it with others tomorrow or today.
The tree has purpose a determined intent.
I will not be discouraged or let anything circumvent.
The fruit I share can provide nourishment needed.
My life has direction and is not yet completed.
Using this dirt for its intention and design.
The growth of my tree and providing vision to the blind.
Only through him can I ultimately be found.
Only by his unfailing grace am I unbound.
Perfection not obtainable but progress is you see.
This the story of my life’s glorious recovery tree.
Using honesty, tools, supports, prayers, and the surrendering of me.
This is how God, Saint Joe’s, and community have made me free.

The staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, respectful, non judgmental & easy to open up to. You’ll feel warmly welcomed even as you walk into the front door. My child was sent here in crisis. While sitting in crisis center a family told us how horrible it was and bot to send our daughter there. Leaving my child was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life, HOWEVER I will never say a bad thing about the meadows. They helped my daughter more than I could have ever imagined. She was able to call us every single night, and the communication between myself and her case manager Whitney was nothing any of amazing. Whitney made sure I knew every single detail about her every day, made sure I was updated on things going on with her. The only thing I could say could improve a bit would be being able to reach someone on the unit. Myself and several fanily members tried to get in contact with the unit for updates on her and never received a call back in the 6 days she was there. Other than that I do not have a single complaint.

Did acupuncture, at Christmas time the music program let us go Carroling around campus to all the other units , we built snowman, I was there for all major holidays that year and we was treated like a human being 😍 ALOT of ppl complain about not being able to talk to family but I actually found it a relief the first month I was there , I had crap I was dealing with (guilt ,shame , embarrassment )and the once a week I did call home those feelings of inadequacy would come back ten fold , but after the initial few weeks my confidence began to build and I learned forgiveness!!! This is where I went to my first and only recovery treatment center. I came in as dual diagnosis but I did not need detox (thankfully). I had never been in an addiction treatment center before, and White Deer Run was definitely an experience. I do believe I stayed the full 28 days. It's been so long I'm having a hard time remembering my actual treatment year. I would love to say I went to White deer Run and I stayed in recovery since. This was not the case however, I did go back out 😢.
I learned a lot while I was there though, I learned that I could Not 🚫 escape the facility 😂. This might Not 🚫 make sense to some people reading this. This facility is almost impossible to leave once you have started the program for many reasons. I did not try to escape, but I watched many try. They returned very frustrated and tired as they walked back up the steep hill from the town below.
The whole reason I really wanted to do a thank you or a shout out to WDR is because during my treatment I attended a meditation workshop. It was my first encounter with a monk. I sat down crossed my legs and then quickly prayed for the session to be over with. I was unhealthy and my legs had fallen deeply asleep, pins and needles 👀. I am grateful for THAT moment, I began My ✋🏻 journey learning patience.
If you have really had it with the "Drug and Alcohol Scene", and I mean YOU [Not just your family and friends] go for it ✅
🤍 Thank you White Deer 🦌 Run

I am sober 9.5 years because of cove forge. I had previously been to Guadenzia 3 times, both Pyramids, Gateway, multiple psychiatric hospitalizations...
It feels like yesterday I was at the cove... The location and programming of cove was unlike any other. I felt supported, not medicated. I felt empowered with opportunities to understand my body and psyche. I was educated and exposed to so many helpful tools I still carry with me today. From journaling, to exercise, to nature, to meditation, to spiritual studies (Christianity), to psychology and attachment/trauma theories.
I was a lost cause. I was arrested 29 times over 10 years. Had been incarcerated more times than I could count including SCI Muncy.
I will never forget what your staff showed, did and helped me with. I don't know just one thing that changed things for me... I just know it was the program as a whole and the opportunities and education given that helped me find my courage to change. To gain self reflection, self discipline, self control, and self empowerment.
Thank you cove forge staff for saving my life... I now have a college degree, working in nursing, have my own home (owned) on 6 beautiful country acres, two vehicles of my own, my children all back in my custody and home, and I don't take a second for granted.
You found the light in me and brought it to the surface. You supported me when everyone else said I'd need medication the rest of my life to function normally. I feel proud to report, the Cove empowered me and kept a boundary to let me "try" without medication... and I am 9.5 years sober without any psych meds or MAT. You empowered me to find out who I really was as a person... My only sadness... Is that I had found the cove sooner... Maybe I could've spared my family and my children some of the pain.
But we can't change the past and I do believe we are all so much stronger for it.
From my heart to all of yours... I'm all in and always will be for Cove Forge.
