About The Meadows

With more than 40 years of commitment to recovery in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, The Meadows Psychiatric Center provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals looking to recover from both mental health and behavioral health challenges, including substance use disorders.

The Meadows Psychiatric Center is a comprehensive treatment facility that serves both adults and adolescents, offering personalized care that’s completely tailored to meet the unique needs of each person in their program. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful, with spacious rooms that were recently updated.

Comprehensive Care for Everyone

The Meadows Psychiatric Center offers a whole list of therapeutic services for adults facing mental health challenges and unhealthy coping mechanisms. The majority of the programs offered by this center help to identify the root cause of addiction and other behavioral challenges. Plus, they also offer a handful of services for teens who are looking to learn about healthy relationships and how to cope with stress in a healthy way.

One of the most unique services they offer to their inpatient teens is animal therapy and expressive arts therapy. These therapies work to help promote calm feelings and help the teen identify their emotions.

Some of the therapies that The Meadows Psychiatric Center incorporates for their adult clients include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) in their individual counseling sessions. On top of these offerings, they also provide clients with access to group therapy and education on stress management and coping skills.

An Integrated Approach to Behavioral Health

The Meadows Psychiatric Center combines compassionate care with innovative therapies. There’s not just one person who’s making all of the decisions in the medical care for patients here. Instead, there’s a whole team dedicated to providing individualized care at every turn.

To make the admissions process as easy as possible, The Meadows Psychiatric Center has highlighted all that a person can bring to their facility. This facility also offers some services available with telehealth, like psychiatric evaluations and individual therapy sessions.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Reason for one star review is bad conditions compared to other hospitals I've been to in the area. Not very clean when I was there. Very overcrowded for the small space. Outside area depending on the unit youre in, you go out regularly and play football or chalk drawing. I would recommend another Hospital like Penn Highlands in Connelsville. Though, depending on circumstances you don't always have a choice. OVERALL If you're thinking of going in yourself because of a crisis, here's what I'd tell you to do 1. Work with staff, but remember techs are just there to watch and offer support and are very busy running around from ward to ward for emergencies 2. journal what you want to say to someone in crayon, even though its hard. Or politely ask to borrow a pen under watch. Or just think carefully about it. 3. Ask to see the doctor 4. Give him all of your points clearly without going into too much detail. Let them know how much its effecting your life 5. Advocate for yourself when you can without yelling, its a small space. People are stuck there with you. 6. Do the activities with other patients and try to focus on calm. Listen to the music. Request songs. 7. Its kind of like being in school again. But act like an adult 8. Expect to be given meds, and take them. Work it out with your doctor after release. 9. File a well thought out grievance if you have a legitimate complaint

This Place Was GREAT. The Patients Became Family. Shout-out To Mike Who I Call Law By Mike, Tyler, Reggie, Hollen, And Andrew. The Food Was 10/10, The Rooms Were Good Sized And Beds Were Comfortable. Sarah Went Above And Beyond To Help Me. You Meet With Activity Therapy And If Something Is Said I Group That Brings Back Bad Memories The Therapists Will Stay And Talk With You And Help You Process It. You Can Bond With Staff. The Only Thing That Sucked Was The Safety Check But I Understand Why They Do Them. If I Ever Need To Go Inpatient Again The Meadows Will Be The Place I Go.

Response from the owner

Not even gon lie this place is a big joke I went here 2x and it’s get worse everytime. I came here when I was 12 and it was crazy more like fever dream u don’t want to Remeber the staff at some point was chill. Cara, alyssa(old staff memebr) bri, Kayla, Mackenzie, bayleee I really liked those staff members,… Mary is a joke yeah she was chill but there was situations I was in when I was emotional and instead of helping they drugged me up and at 15 got threntend to be send to the adult unit over 18 which was pretty scary but it stopped the outburst or not really because I still had them you just got to learn if you want to throw a fit or get attention without getting in trouble get pace called instead of all additional backup. I had fights in here, I watched people escape. You need to pull the fire alarm or grab a key card to escape. Learned that in there . I honestly will say too that if the staff that I listed wasn’t as chill and they weren’t there I would have not made it out. The food was very questionable to the point where I only wanted to drink shakes and gained mad weight. Finally lost took 2 years left the hospital at 205 and now I’m 138 pounds. Overall the rules is so dumb, bedtimes dumb because ain’t no one in real life going to bed at 8:30pm. Very interesting experience. NOT ALOUD TO LISTEN TO MUSIC EVERYONES NUMBER 1 COPING SKILL

terrible experience, if i could do 0 i would. there was maybe 2 or 3 staff that actually cared about the patients. i stayed there when i was a minor, they kept me in the lobby with a 30 year old man who was insanely creepy and predatory (it comes with the mental health territory which i understand, but like i said i was a minor with no guardian because i had come from the ER) for over 2 hours. i saw a therapist only once, and it was to discuss discharge, i was there for 3 weeks. somebody tried to FALSELY rediagnose me, thank goodness for my outside support system. the "therapy" consisted of sitting us in a group and asking us basic bonding questions, which i understand can be very helpful but its not for those who have very serious issues. many patients were actively self-harming while there, everyone had access to sharps which were never fully confiscated. bloody fist fights broke out like twice a week. i was refused my prescribed anti-psychotics until week 3, therefore sending me into psychosis. i was actively fasting and purging while there and the staff shrugged it off. i cant speak on behalf of the adults unit, but do NOT send your children here i beg of you.

Staff there hardly talk to you, there’s like no groups, people get arrested, tables get thrown, your automatically unit restricted for 3 days and you don’t even meet with the treatment team until at least 4 days after getting there but average is a week before you meet with the team so you don’t even know what you are working on.

DO NOT SENT ANYONE HERE IF YOU HAVE TO!! REQUEST ANOTHER FACILITY!! I had my son here and if I could give 0 stars I would. ALL of the staff are always confused with how things should work. They will tell you wrong CONSTANTLY. 1. They do not call you to inform you of ANYTHING. My son got hurt and I had no clue until I visited him and seen him bruised up. 2. They don't pay attention to ANYTHING. They couldn't find my sons personal items. 1 item is extremely sentimental to him because the pants were his dad's pants who had passed away from a heart attack 3 years ago. They even had 2 kids escape the premises on one of the evenings I was visiting. 3. They tell you he's set up with appointments when he gets out and they never did ANYTHING. No appointments scheduled! 4. They kept him there for 3 WEEKS and only increased a medication. Something his regular doctor could have done. 4. I had to argue with them to let my son floss his braces supervised. He has braces and needs to floss them and I had to argue with the lady saying it's medically necessary. He never flossed his teeth in the 3 weeks he was in there!! 5. Out of the 3 weeks he was in I only talked to staff 4 times TOTAL. My son has issues remembering things and would always forget to call and when I'd call to talk to him it gets sent to voicemail and I NEVER got called back. Only when I mentioned it to his case worker did someone made him call me that same afternoon. But he didn't remember to call any other days. I talked to him on the phone approximately 5 times total during his 3 week stay. Just a horrible experience altogether. An experience I wouldn't wish on any parent. I will not be sending him back if he ever needs inpatient again.
