About The Meadows

With more than 40 years of commitment to recovery in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, The Meadows Psychiatric Center provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals looking to recover from both mental health and behavioral health challenges, including substance use disorders.

The Meadows Psychiatric Center is a comprehensive treatment facility that serves both adults and adolescents, offering personalized care that’s completely tailored to meet the unique needs of each person in their program. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful, with spacious rooms that were recently updated.

Comprehensive Care for Everyone

The Meadows Psychiatric Center offers a whole list of therapeutic services for adults facing mental health challenges and unhealthy coping mechanisms. The majority of the programs offered by this center help to identify the root cause of addiction and other behavioral challenges. Plus, they also offer a handful of services for teens who are looking to learn about healthy relationships and how to cope with stress in a healthy way.

One of the most unique services they offer to their inpatient teens is animal therapy and expressive arts therapy. These therapies work to help promote calm feelings and help the teen identify their emotions.

Some of the therapies that The Meadows Psychiatric Center incorporates for their adult clients include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) in their individual counseling sessions. On top of these offerings, they also provide clients with access to group therapy and education on stress management and coping skills.

An Integrated Approach to Behavioral Health

The Meadows Psychiatric Center combines compassionate care with innovative therapies. There’s not just one person who’s making all of the decisions in the medical care for patients here. Instead, there’s a whole team dedicated to providing individualized care at every turn.

To make the admissions process as easy as possible, The Meadows Psychiatric Center has highlighted all that a person can bring to their facility. This facility also offers some services available with telehealth, like psychiatric evaluations and individual therapy sessions.

My fianc has been seen by the doctor just 4 times in 12 days, including today. The nurses never actually answer the floor phone so getting in contact with an actual human, as their advocate, that isn't the front desk is near impossible. Absolutely abysmal treatment all around, I can't warn against going to this facility enough.

I did not receive any type of therapy to help me with my issues. The place is absolutely disgusting!! For the first 3 days there i didn't even see a single person with a mop or any type of cleaning supplies. Even when they did clean they took about 5 minutes in the room. And it was once, that they came in my room to clean. The food was terrible. You can't have anything to eat except breakfast, lunch, dinner and a nighttime snack. You can't even get a cup of cold water without asking, even then it's usually room temperature. I felt more depressed after coming out of there then was I was admitted. The staff doesn't help out with anything you. You have to ask 5 times for everything you need. Soap, deodorant, even a toothbrush and toothpaste. You can't have any of your personal hygiene products except a toothbrush. It was the one of worst experiences of my entire life. They charge $800 a day. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that needs help. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! I only gave one star because I couldn't leave to review without it.

This facility is the most unprofessional disgusting dirty gloomy poor excuse of a psych Hospital. I just left from visiting my wife and it made me depressed just walking through the hall. There is mildew in the lunchroom plain as day where the drink fountain is. The bathroom that I used had so much rust on the fixtures I think I may need a tetanus booster! I want my wife out of there right now! Unfortunately they will not direct me to anybody in control of the building. They just send me two people's voicemail that they know aren't there. There is no way for someone to get their life straightened out in such surroundings! I would rather be in jail then be held in them conditions!!! This place does not even qualify for one star! If you have a family member there be nice to them on the phone because this place is disgusting and should not be open to anyone

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The staff was very nice and helpful; they did seem frustrated as they were understaffed. I also understand that at one point there were 2 separate adult sections which I believe would be beneficial to some patients who may not suffer from more of the behavioral issues. I jus ... Read More

My fiancé went here a year ago and she is doing amazing. I love this place because they treated her very well and she got to see me and our daughter. The doctors and nurses were amazing. They helped her through everything and if she ever has to be admitted again. I will highly suggest her going to the Meadows. They got her on the right medicine and she was out in a week or two weeks.

The case manager I had while in there did not meet with me until the morning I was getting discharged. She did not include me in my treatment plan, get me a ride home, set up aftercare, send my prescriptions to the right pharmacy (all of which I was promised walking through the door). She even took the liberty to fill out paperwork FOR me without even asking me any of the questions on it. Some staff were helpful. Some were not. The doctor doesn't listen. Any concerns I had were left uncared for. Paients are treated like threats. I was told by several people that they tried and tried to call me. Gave the staff my patient id number, the unit I was in- all the information they asked for - but when they get transferred to my unit it just rings and hangs up. I wasn't told about a single one of these phone calls from my loved ones a single time.

Wish I could give this place zero stars. Such a traumatizing experience. Don't go here if you want actual professional help because there is none. The patients are basically the therapists and we shoud be paid for taking shifts since the staff's solution was just drugging us up simply for crying. I wasted a week here in what my friend and I like to call The Dark Forest of Sorrow. I was there because of severe ptsd and a recent assault and the entire time I was there I met with no therapist or staff to process this as they didn't care. Nobody checked on me to ask how I'm doing. Not only that I was neglected and abused emotionally. If you have PNES (seizures induced by trauma or severe stress absolutely do not set foot in this dump. You'll be told you're faking for attention because you're an inconvenience to them due to it and they don't want to deal with it. Patients get physically attacked by other patients or threatened as well as going into people's showers while they are in there multiple times and nothing is done. Unit is so tiny that even if you aren't claustrophobic you will be. The plumbing in this place is a joke as the toilets constantly clog. If you complain about mistreatment the doctor will attempt to gaslight you and say it's just your perception. If you wanna do nothing but color and stare at walls all day this is the place. At one point we were all left on the unit alone in the hallway with no staff for 10 minutes. If we really wanted to we could of done something like kill ourselves or another person or attempt to escape. The treatment team is a joke. You advocate for your needs and you are brushed off and talked over while not listened to. They never announce when group is If they have any at all. There's only one phone on the entire unit and they will let one patient hog it the entire day unless you say something. If you want an Adult Daycare then this is definitely the place to go.

This place is horrible. My friend went here, and I've heard nothing but horrible things. The children are constantly getting into fights and being vulgar, they're strip searched and made to take off their clothes, it is very cold (the pillows they give you at night are thin sheets, and the blankets are even thinner.) and very very dirty. They're constantly drugging up kids and they don't give you your belongings even when they're brought in. My friend still has nightmares about it. Absolutely horrible place.

For starters, when I showed up to do the intake process, the secretary was very rude and ignored me 3 times. I had questions about the paperwork and she never let me ask those questions so the paperwork was never finished. The next day, the doctor called me about a med change and asked if I had any concerns or questions. When I said I did and started voicing my concern, she interrupted me told me that it was a long time ago and told me she told my daughter "you don't need any friends, you need to stay away from the drama". I was never updated about any other med changes (and there was 2 med changes in the matter of 13 days) except the night before discharge when I got a call asking for consent to give melatonin. My daughter needed xrays and I was never informed of these xrays that was given and had to ask the caseworker what the results were and she didnt know anything about it. I wasnt happy with the lack of communication that takes place in the medical department. I understand giving consent to treat but also just a simple phone call would have been nice for an update. Also, she complained ALOT of how dirty and disgusting it was in the facility, her white socks were pure black looking like tar. She said no one sweeps or mops. She only got group therapy, really no individual therapy. She kept saying "this place is making me worse" and "this place made me so much more angry". In my opinion, there needs to be more individual therapy, hire more people if need be! On the plus side, my daughter learned on how to cope with things and was thankful I made the decision on getting her help.
