About Henry County Counseling Center, a program of McIntosh Trail CSB

Located in McDonough, Georgia, McIntosh Community Service Board provides substance misuse services and mental health services for children, adolescents and adults who’re seeking to recover from drugs or alcohol, or even more complex dual diagnosis disorders. They’re pretty close to Red Hawk Baseball Complex and Camp Creek.

Recovery on Your Mind

One immediate advantage you’ll find is that they offer both residential treatment and outpatient treatments as their levels of care. This gives you a wider range of options to find the help that you need based on your specific needs and the severity of your situation.

This clinic provides assessments that are based on the American Society of Addiction’s criteria in order to figure out the appropriate level of care for you. I really admire this level of detail right from the beginning because it shows that they see each client as a unique individual that may need specialized care.

Specialized Care from Every Angle

Some of the services they offer range from diagnostic evaluations to psychiatric and nursing support. They also encourage group and family involvement because having a support group can make such a difference during this process. Some of their specialized programs include court-ordered evaluations, risk reduction, family violence, and anger management.

Anyone experiencing mental health issues can access their outpatient care. You’ll receive psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring, therapy, crisis intervention, and community support.

They also offer assertive community treatment for adults with severe mental illnesses with Inspirations, which is a crisis respite program for adults. There’s also New Choices, which is a women’s addiction program, and peer support. All these are specialized programs that help in different aspects for different people.

This is the place I first went to when I made it known my struggles with mental health. My mother found the closest place, via recommendation from a school counselor, and I have been with them since 2020 I believe. I have since become clean from many self harming behaviors, as well as went into therapy which has helped me so much. I absolutely love Natalie the therapist, she is such a good therapist and I enjoy talking to her even if it s just about random things sometimes instead of therapy. My psychiatrist has had her moments, and I m on the edge about switching honestly, but regardless she has helped me get onto some of the right medications and has tried her best to keep me up to date with bloodwork to check for any major concerns regarding my medication. And I appreciate her efforts to help me. I ve switched through nurses about twice, but my new nurse Dale is wonderful. She s gentle when taking blood, which is wonderful since I m prone to passing out!! And she is funny, she has a very uplifting personality from what I can tell. Overall, I am pleased with this establishment. 10/10 on almost all aspects.

The website is dishonest about business hours and the staff looks for every opportunity to turn tax paying citizens away. You would be better off petitioning your district leaders and city council members to employ better staff, than making an attempt to come here. This place SUCKS. The staff should be replaced IMMEDIATELY

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Georgia is designed to encourage an individual to get the treatment they need. This effort aims to break through resistance and motivate the individual to get help. The process typically involves loved ones sharing their concerns with the individual and how their substance use has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist can help guide this conversation and explain from the clinical side how treatment can be beneficial.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Designed for individuals who don't require round-the-clock care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a form of outpatient care with a higher level of support. PHP treatment can be an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down option. With daily sessions lasting 6 to 8 hours, up to 5 days a week, a partial hospitalization program may offer medication management, relapse prevention techniques, and behavioral therapy interventions. PHP treatment can be fully or partially covered by insurance.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During rehab in Georgia, you may engage in motivational interviewing. This typically lasts one to two sessions and is designed to address any ambivalence you have toward change. It helps you explore your current situation and motivations and commit to making changes for the future.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Henry County Counseling Center offers Supported Employment. They assist adults with Mental Health Diagnosis and/or Substance-Related Disorder who express a desire for competitive employment. Services include supports to access benefits counseling: identify vocational skills and interests; and develop and implement a job search plan to obtain employment based on the individual's strengths, preferences, abilities and need.

Needs new leadership, the staff is so unprofessional due to a lack of real leadership. No real concerns about patients from what I observed and experienced, please take this review into consideration.

Let me start with a positive Dr Derby is only reason why I’ve stayed. She listens and she knows mental health. Now the not so great. The staff is short handed and ones who work here are stressed out. It shows in the past few years. Appointments are always late or they canceled last minute. They don’t have counseling for trauma patients. The main nurse refused to see me because of my service dog I found out. Just because she don’t like dogs. I don’t recommend this place unless you have no options like what happened to me.

I started treatment as to this facility back at the end of 2017 when I first moved. And it was a life saver. I have been in treatment with this place for 8 years consistently. Seems like a few years ago policies and employees changed rapidly and quickly. Now?.... I can't ever get a hold of any doctor or secretary to answer the phones, I can't even get a hold of anyone to grant my doctor's permissions to release my records to my new employer, and the communication about my appointments has gone down the drain. They've cancelled my appointments last minute, they don't communicate what do ever, even when another center transfers me over there they can't pick the phone up. This facility used to be a great place for people to come get treatment and in the last 2 years this place has become so unorganized and lack luster, like myself , a lot of people have been taking medicines that need to be taken consistently to continue a good lifestyle And it seems like these people could care less about what happens to their patients.

I spoke with a lady in the front desk about turning in some paperwork for the DR to sign and was told they will be at lunch from 12-1:30pm. Fair enough. I can go after lunch. When I got there, which was a few minutes after 1:30, it was dark and it appeared empty. There were two other ladies waiting outside with me. I waited til it was 1:50. THEN a lady came to the door stating that they have a staff meeting and won’t be open until 2:30. Why was there no sign on the door to let people know? Why tell me to come after lunch? I brought my mom here once for her appointment one time and the place was CLOSED. I called and called. No answer. They then closed her file saying she never came to her appointment and we had to reopen it and start all over again! I am so fed up with this place. There needs to be better communication, better structure, more professionalism and more conscientious with time.

I am caring for a person who has severe mental health issues. In the beginning, this facility was an answered prayer. It is now a living nightmare. The person receiving treatment here is currently taking many medications that are dangerous to stop on a dime. The last 2 appointments were cancelled by this facility after I took off from work. While standing at the front desk I scheduled an appointment for today. I explained that I could not get off work for the appointment they wanted to schedule. I was told it was scheduled for today. Well it's not. Now the person has no meds, no appointment and the people at this facility will not and NEVER answer the phone. If you have other options for treatment RUN, don't walk. They are rude and have no compassion. I called the BOD and they are even worse. So here I sit with a person who most likely will have a meltdown due to not having medication. They have been hospitalized twice in the last 2 months. My job is in jeopardy and my housing. Thanks HCCC.
