While I’ve never had many issues with the ER itself, my experiences with specialists, CRNPs, and doctors have been frustratingly disappointing overall. Most of them have been nice enough people, but if you walk in with a complicated medical history or symptoms outside the usual day-to-day issues, it often feels like their main goal is just to get you through the appointment and refer you somewhere else. From May of 2025 through March of 2026, I saw five different providers. Every appointment involved repeating the same history and symptoms over and over again, only to end with another referral instead of actual progress. Ironically, after pain management referred me to neurology, neurology eventually referred me right back to pain management again. It's like a cup game without a ball beneath one. The craziest part is that the condition I was ultimately diagnosed with was something ChatGPT suggested I get tested for. Otherwise, I’d probably still be stuck in the same cycle of seeing a new specialist every few months with no answers and no meaningful treatment plan. After nearly a year of being bounced around with little to show for it, I was finally referred to AHN in Pittsburgh, where the appointment was scheduled six months out. So at this point, it’s fair to say I’ve lost most of my faith in this hospital system, and honestly, in much of the U.S. healthcare system in general. I won’t name specific people because I’m trying to keep this respectful, but if you want my honest opinion, I’d only go to IRMC if you absolutely have no other option. Pittsburgh is a longer drive, but at least the specialists there seem far more equipped to handle complex cases and actually listen to patients.

Hiya! If you need a Band-Aid, I would not recommend visiting the IRMC, because the people here could not differentiate between right and left. I was at the ER TWICE for unimaginable back pain and told I have sciatica (19, btw). The first time I was there, they did not even do blood work. They simply did an X-Ray (not how you diagnose sciatica, btw). The second time I visited, before the nurse did my blood work, she asked if I was 17 weeks along (Mother Mary, btw). HIIIIII, maybe let's know whose blood we are stealing before we steal it. Still, after the second visit, they just said it was sciatica and gave me more steroids. They did not perform tests that would help identify if it was even the diagnosis they were giving me. They watched me limp out of the hospital. Moral of the story, I went to AHN Wexford hospital, got the proper tests, and have been diagnosed with sepsis. I was there for a full week and was actually taken seriously. So.... thanks, IRMC, I could have died. If anyone knows any good lawyers, email me :3

We loved partnering with IRMC during Nurses Week to provide complimentary chair massages for their nurses and staff throughout the day. It was such a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who work so hard caring for others every day. The team at IRMC was welcoming, appreciative, and truly dedicated to supporting their staff. We were honored to be a small part of helping their nurses relax and recharge during a well-deserved week of recognition. We hope to partner together again soon!

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Pennsylvania can be helpful to individuals who are experiencing substance use disorder and various mental health conditions. It helps you identify damaging thought and behavior patterns and replace them with healthy ones.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Pennsylvania is an evidence based technique that involves group therapy, individual therapy, and phone coaching. Group sessions focus on learning behavioral skills. Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to apply what you're learning to your personal situations. Phone coaching allows you to call your therapist during the week for help with challenging situations.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing in Pennsylvania gives you the opportunity to share your perspective and explore your ideas and motivation for change. Your therapist will walk you through the four steps of engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning to empower you to make any desired changes in your life.

It is important to process the impact that traumatic experiences have had on your life. During trauma therapy, you and an experienced therapist confront these experiences and the emotional impact it is had. This helps to reduce your symptoms of stress and anxiety and improve your overall mental health and well being.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

Family therapy teaches individual family members in Pennsylvania the benefits of collectively combating addiction. Therapists help individual members establish healthy boundaries between themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction. This helps improve emotional support systems and creates a bond so families work together to sustain long term recovery.

Life skills are the mental and social skills that are necessary to navigate day to day life. Addiction diminishes or eliminates these skills, so they must be relearned and practiced during drug rehab treatment in Pennsylvania.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Incorporating recreational therapy into drug and alcohol addiction programs in Pennsylvania helps you rebuild your life and maintain sobriety by discovering new interests and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Recreational activities can include painting, team sports, and hiking to promote physical and mental health.

My son-in-law was in the emergency department on 06/09/2026 and they discharged him without taking his IV out. That is ridiculous. Never again

My Husband had a heart attack and from the moment we arrived at ER every one was ready and Cath team was on call. It took minutes from arrival to having 3 stents put in. From the ER doctors and staff to our nurse Albert in ICU everyone went the extra mile to help us feel comfortable and well taken care of. Could not be more thankful that in this situation we ended up at this hospital. Thank you all!
