About Larkin Community Hospital South Miami

Larkin Community Hospital specializes in treating drug and alcohol addiction in the Miami, Florida, region. This hospital operates a separate rehab center focusing primarily on addiction medicine, dual diagnosis, and mental health.

At this addiction treatment center, there are two programs, namely, an outpatient program and a detox program. To learn more about these substance abuse recovery programs, have a look at the following:

Unfortunately, quitting a drug or alcohol addiction alone can prove hazardous. That’s why it’s best to enroll in a detox treatment program for drug and alcohol addiction at a rehab center like Larkin Community Hospital.

This addiction treatment center offers a detox treatment program that is carefully customized to meet each patient’s medical and recovery needs. While receiving treatment, patients will have 24/7 monitoring and counseling sessions. The length of stay is based on individual recovery needs.

The outpatient opioid and alcohol medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program at this rehab center offers FDA-approved medications like methadone, naltrexone, and buprenorphine to approved candidates to help with long-term recovery.

Those receiving medication-assisted treatment must also attend therapy, counseling sessions, and support groups to help with withdrawal and cravings. These psychological services will also help patients manage the behavioral, emotional, and psychological effects of quitting an addiction.

Very good hospital but above all very good attention for everything... We went through a situation with my stepfather, he was detained by immigration and they took him to that hospital for an emergency that almost caused him death and they, with their kindness and understanding, made him feel like family... Very kind and humanitarian people and that great gentleman, NICOLAS PEREZ, who always has a word of encouragement that makes you see light in all darkness, excellent treatment, thank you for everything

My husband was treated here, and from the moment he arrived at the emergency room, the care was magnificent. The treatment was, and still is, excellent in the second-floor ward. My medical needs were very well attended to. Everyone, without exception, has provided me with first-class treatment. Thank you for the interview and for all the care. I highly recommend this place. I'm in 209A.

It is the first time that I visit them but the experience is very good, we are here in the colonoscopy area, the service in general is very good in a few words you feel at home, thank you. A little ugly in the waiting room, if I had known I would have come warmer.

Accepted Insurance

Larkin Community Hospital South Miami works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are a collection of highly individualized services designed to promote long-term recovery. These services evolve as your needs change. Case managers and recovery teams typically begin formulating the rehab aftercare service plan early in the recovery process to facilitate your reintegration back into the home, workplace, and community.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Often referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive treatment option that allows individuals to return home at night. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. Participants attend daily therapeutic sessions, receive medication management, and have access to skilled medical professionals. While costs can vary, most insurance will fully or partially cover a partial hospitalization program.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The first step of the recovery process involves the removal of all drugs and alcohol from your system while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, you are closely monitored by medical staff who can provide medications, if necessary, to help alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. Medical detox is usually followed by a period of inpatient addiction treatment.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

It has been an excellent experience. The caring staff of Larkin are second to none. My nurse, Pavlo went over and above. He helped me in the moments that I really needed him. He was fast and efficient..He planned ahead and would change my dressing before my line would fail. He is an excellent person. The Patient experience girl Lisbeth is always willing to chat and help, is so profesional and caring. Staff have been in general in 2nd floor outstanding. We are so fateful. Anabel, Ana, Ileana Soraida, Maria, Andres. So many !

My young daughter was Baker Acted here and we had a good experience with this hospital. Everyone that works at this hospital was knowlegeable, professional and helpful. I also thought that their Family Therapist was excellent and did a good job addressing issues occurring in our family. The only downside is that the building itself is quite old and doesn't feel up to date. I prefered Nicklaus Children's Hospital in comparison.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Julie, thank you for your honest and thoughtful review. We're glad your daughter received compassionate care and that our Family Therapist made a difference. Your feedback helps us continue to improve.

Starting at Larkin has been a great experience from day one. The orientation process was well-organized, informative, and supportive, which really helped ease the transition into the team. From leadership to fellow nurses and support staff, everyone has been welcoming, respectful, and eager to help. The training is hands-on and tailored to help new hires build confidence quickly, especially when it comes to telemetry, med-surg protocols, and unit-specific procedures. I appreciate how approachable the supervisors are and how much emphasis is placed on teamwork and communication. Patient care is clearly the top priority here, and I feel proud to be part of a facility that holds such high standards. I’m excited for what’s ahead and feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be as I grow in my nursing career.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Pascal, welcome to the team! We're grateful for your thoughtful feedback about our orientation and training process. We’re so glad you’re feeling supported and confident.

I had a great experience during my orientation. Everything was explained thoroughly and the care was very thoughtful as the employees brought us breakfast and provided us with free lunch as well. The staff came off as helpful and nice and verbalized themselves well, especially since they had to translate in from english to spanish.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Daniel, we’re so happy to hear your orientation was thorough and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your kind words!

Worst hospital ever! The staff does not listen to you and will place a fake diagnosis on you that you do not have. They lie and do not prepare a proper file with the proper information like allergies and inject you with medications that can harm you because you are allergic to them and if not treated , may cause your death. The staff are constantly on their phones and do not properly take care of the patients. The staff are noisy and disorganized and do not have the patients best interests in mind. The person below is not qualified or fit to be in her position. She bullies patients and admitted that she knowingly gave me medications mixed into my food and without my permission. Medications that could have killed me, as I did not have a psychiatric problem, it was a domestic issue going on.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We're very sorry to hear about your experience and take your concerns seriously. Our goal is always to provide safe and respectful care. Please contact our Patient Experience team at PE@larkinhospital.com so we can understand more about your situation and investigate thoroughly. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
