About LRADAC

LRADAC was formerly called The Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council. LRADAC is a nonprofit that serves the residents of Richland and Lexington counties in South Carolina. They have two locations, one of which is on South Lake Drive in Lexington. The Lexington location offers treatment programs for families, youth and teens to treat substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility accepts most commercial insurance. They also take Medicare and Medicaid. Individuals and families with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level will be able to get care free of charge.

The programs and services for youth and teens are offered on an outpatient basis. This keeps the youth in school and at home while getting treatment for substance use and mental health issues. Your child will receive an individualized treatment plan based on his or her circumstances and substance use. Services include drug screening, individual and group counseling, education, intervention and family support.

LRADAC has a comprehensive substance use prevention program. Whether you work in a school or business, there are lots of resources to help with substance misuse prevention. They offer the SC Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP) for merchants to help prevent over serving patrons and reduce underage access to tobacco and alcohol. The program can be a helpful resource for owners and employees of grocery stores, liquor stores, restaurants and convenience stores. You can even request expert assistance to help you design policies and training programs about substance use for your staff. You can book speakers to give presentations about tobacco, alcohol and other substances to audiences of all ages.

Another helpful offering is their The South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP). This is a mandatory treatment and education program for those convicted of driving under the influence (DUI). It’s also for people with suspended licenses. You’ll be guided through the program, and a counselor will determine what level of care and services are best for you. If your child, teen or an adult in your family is dealing with substance use and mental health challenges, there are many services available here to address those issues.

This place is nothing but a money grab. Why so expensive if mandated by the COURTS!
Response from the owner1 month ago
Hi Brooks, the fees for ADSAP services are written into state statutes, and, unfortunately, we do not have any control over the pricing. These fees have also not increased in 25 years. Participants can fulfill their financial obligations through 50 hours of community service if they are deemed financially eligible. If participants are court-ordered for other reasons (DSS, Probation/Pardon/Parole, etc), they are also eligible for financial assistance.

Accepted Insurance

LRADAC works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. As an outpatient client, you may come for treatment only a few days a week. During your time with them, you will have access to many services including individual counseling, group counseling, case management, job training, life skills trainings, and peer support.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program are in a more advanced stage of recovery. Many have already completed inpatient detox and/or rehab and have returned to their home, workplace, and community. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' recovery over the long term and typically include a broad portfolio of resources, such as peer coaching and 12 step program induction. Clients may collaborate with their case manager and care team to create their care plan.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Choosing a drug rehab in South Carolina helps you overcome drug dependency, learn how to manage cravings, and obtain the tools needed to prevent relapse. This is accomplished through individualized treatment that addresses a full spectrum of physical, social, and emotional needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Family members often need support as they help their loved one overcome substance use. Parents, siblings, children and other loved ones are welcome to participate in counseling individually or as a family unit. On occasion, Family Nights take place for families to interact socially and show each other support.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). For many people who are struggling with alcohol or drug use, counseling in a small group setting is very effective. Group members learn together and support each other throughout their participation in services.

Certified counselors work with clients one on one to address substance use and/or any other concerns such as grief, stress, trauma, or anger which may be impacting your child’s behaviors. Counselors are experts in youth development, trauma-informed care, and substance use.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During couples therapy in South Carolina, a licensed therapist offers techniques for how both partners can resolve conflict and manage challenges in the relationship. The couple may also engage in individual or family therapy for further support.

The main basis of cognitive behavioral therapy in South Carolina is that all your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Therefore, the therapist will help you change your thoughts, which will lead to different emotions and actions.

There are four fundamental processes to motivational interviewing in South Carolina. Engaging involves careful listening to understand the client's perspective. Focusing involves reaching an agreement on the purpose of the treatment. Evoking is the process of exploring the client's ideas and motivations. Planning explores how the client can make changes.

Please take the time to hear my story that went from the tragic loss of my counselor ending with resilience, strength, and triumph, as I successfully completed the course. LRADAC’s Outpatient Program was absolutely amazing and truly helped me change my life. From the beginning, Brooke, who placed me in the class that was the perfect fit, showed genuine care and understanding that set the tone for everything that followed. My counselor, Arianna, was beyond incredible. Everyone in my class would agree she was made for this work. She poured her heart into helping us and genuinely loved what she did. She had recently gotten married and was starting a new chapter in her life....Then, in a moment that shattered us all, we walked into class one day and were told the devastating news: Arianna had been murdered by her husband, who then took his own life. The pain was unimaginable. Continuing the program without her felt impossible—but we knew Arianna would have wanted us to push forward. And with the strength of our group, and the incredible support from the staff, we did just that. A special thank you to Casey, our life coach, whose dedication and encouragement helped carry us through such a dark time. This program works. The people at LRADAC care deeply, and I will never forget what they did for me—or the amazing spirit of Arianna. If you’re considering getting help, give this place a chance. It might just save your life.

Don’t think for one second this place will help you if you’re not scheduled for it. Had a good friend that was struggling with substance abuse go in on under his own strength, to look for help and/or treatment options. Went in at 11am - they advertising seeing customers that need help (walk-ins) between 830am-3pm M-F; but they ASKED HIM TO COME BACK TOMORROW. What an absolute joke of an establishment. He even made the comment “sorry I chose to get help at the wrong time”. I will never be referring another individual to this location EVER again. If you need help, please do not go here. They obviously, absolutely, DO NOT care. I am absolutely appalled.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We're deeply sorry to hear about your friend's experience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. LRADAC's mission is to support anyone seeking help, and while we strive to assist all walk-ins during posted hours, we acknowledge that systems can fail when walk-ins exceed normal capacity and or staff availability. We are actively reviewing our walk-in procedures to ensure no one in need is turned away or made to feel unheard. Your feedback is invaluable, and we take it seriously. If your friend is still open to it, we would welcome the chance to personally reach out and find a way to assist. If so, please have your friend contact Mac Caldwell, Vice President of Clinical Services, at 803.726.9370. Thank you.

The staff not all but majority doesn’t care about keeping you in there. Mrs. Shannon my counselor stated that it will take up to 8-12 weeks to complete services with them. I completed my 12 weeks and been having negative drug screens, they decided to discharge me MY LAST WEEK of services because I couldn’t attend a new class that was planned a week before the actual service, when I come there faithfully every week. I let her know I will try. I gave her a maybe. So it shouldn’t be no surprise if I didn’t attend. I come every week consistently sitting in them boring classes learning about something that has nothing to do with why we ended up here. They have no heart for the people who break there necks getting there as along as we come they get paid for us attending so if they can prolong us being there they will. They have so many policies and Lardac rules it’s sad but never follow through or stick to the code. I been so patient with them when MANY OF TIMES they drug screens never come back because of a “problem in the system” but they couldn’t be patient with me? So double standard. I explained my situation to many people (manager) still waiting on a call from Victoria where I left several voicemails. Due to me working very often it is impossible for me to make time for another day out of the week considering I already come once a week they wanted me to come TWICE. Inconsiderate. Like people don’t have a life and other responsibilities to take care of outside of this program. So hopefully this program doesn’t make me start over. I would like to put a complaint out to a GM cause nobody deserves to be treated as such so if I can help the next person from dealing with this mistreatment I will do so.
