About Monarch Shores

Monarch Shores is a drug rehab clinic that treats teens and adults who suffer from alcoholism, drug addiction, and dual-diagnosis conditions. They are located in San Juan Capistrano, California and offer detox, inpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP) and general outpatient (OP) programs.

Their drug detox service allows individuals to safely detox under professional medical supervision. This process may require medication for withdrawals if the addiction is severe.

Their inpatient program allows the individual to reside at the treatment facility while undergoing therapy. The program may last anywhere from one to six months.

Monarch Shores also offers intensive outpatient services. This program typically requires daily visits to the center where patients receive more intensive therapy sessions to treat severe cases of addiction or co-occurring conditions.

The outpatient program at Monarch Shores is less demanding and involves treating milder withdrawal symptoms than the intensive program. It typically requires a patient visit 10 to 12 hours a week. These sessions may include individual therapy, group therapy and learning life skills to cope with a sober lifestyle.

Monarch Shores may be able to work with major insurance providers, such as Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Humana, United Healthcare, and others. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place was amazing. All of the staff really care about all of the clients and do whatever they can to accommodate you (within reason) but they really care about your sobriety. I stayed at the Mission Viejo house and it was super nice. We each got our own rooms, the house had a pool, Jacuzzi and a mini-gym outside - what a great facility. Plus they allow you to have all electronics! A big thanks to all that worked there to make my experience such a positive one: Don, Anthony, Steve, Pat, Kayvone, Alex, Ryan, Shawn and Adriano (hope I didn't leave anyone out). I really appreciated you all! What a wonderful rehab experience. Now I just have to keep my head on straight and put into practice all of the things I know I need to do 🙂. Thank you, thank you! ❤️

Really enjoyed my stay here. From someone who has done the treatment thing many times.. My opinion is solid. Very low number of residents at a time. My house maxed out at 6. We all get our own individual rooms (which you won’t find anywhere else). The staff is incredible, good range of “Normies” and people with clean time who work honest programs. Food was killer. Can’t complain, as I eat 6 meals a day lol. Daily meetings, outings on the weekend. As well as the ability to keep my phone. Some people may say thats a hindrance, in my case, it was not. This program allows you to make a conscious decision on a daily basis if you want to be clean or not. If you are NOT READY, this may not be the place for you. IF YOU ARE READY, don’t hesitate to call and get your bed. From the very beginning doing my intake on the phone to the time I left, has been incredible. Make the most out of the amazing amenities, because there’s a lot here you can’t beat. Staff will also go way out of their way to make sure your needs are met.

First of all I want to say thank you for this program. This is my 2nd time coming to this center as this disease we face is no joke. Relapse is unfortunately part of my story. I want to clear up a stigma that people get out of a recovery center. You will not stay sober if you don’t put the tools to work that they teach you hear. You will not stay sober if you don’t hold yourself accountable. Rehab isn’t where you complete and boom your disease/issue is lifted off or cleansed. The first time around I didn’t practice that. Now to my review: I been to 1 other program called the lighthouse so I can compare and this program by far was a way better fit for me. Starting from the staff - they truly all love what they do, they have experience, can relate, and it’s very apparent they want to see the best in you and what you get out of your stay. The houses are great and they all have different perks, depending what you want available to you ie pool, jacuzzi, views, own space (shared room or not), gym etc. They are all in upper scale neighborhoods and the cleanliness of the houses are nothing to complain about. They take you to AA/NA meetings daily if you like, on top of the 2-3 hours of programming that is offered daily M-F. You are also allowed cell phone and laptops to keep you busy during the downtime as well as, cable tv, and other apps to view movies, along with other things like board games, puzzles, etc The food that is catered is delicious, will leave it at that. They have weekly grocery requests that they do their best to accommodate. Keep in mind it’s a shared budget across other patients, but for the most part you have what you want. If you want anything special, DoorDash is available to you on your own expense. The case managers along with therapist really dig into your issue and do their best to help. It’s your job to be honest with yourself and them so they can do their job to the best of their ability. Listen, participate, be accountable, and take action there’s and after so you get the most out of it. This was my 2nd time around as mentioned and I do not want to come back! (In a nice way!! 😁)

The whole team Case Management, Therapists, and Techs are Caring, Professional and very supportive. The structure of the program is very well set up to touch on every important subjects that get you to work on deeper things with therapist. Also the food was good they are good about diet restrictions and etc .. I could go on and on . I highly recommend Monarch Shores to anyone or a love loved one in need of a recovery center.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Staff is amazing, food is amazing, accommodations are amazing AND you can keep your phone/laptop while dealing with the come down from using. This is the most comfortable and at home I’ve ever felt in a detox and that says a lot because I’ve been to quite a few (unfortunately) but God willing the foundation started here will uphold and allow me to keep the sobriety I started at this place. Super grateful for this detox/residential and everyone here, clients and staff alike.

Monarch Shores (specifically M8 in Mission Viejo) saved my life. I’ve been to a few residentials and rehabs, and this place by far had the most kind and caring staff anyone could ask for. They helped me every step of the way through my sobriety journey and even offered me resources for when I left. If you are looking for a place to go THIS IS IT.
