Terrible experience. Fooled us that we would have a private room and they put us in a shared cage with no window, and everything delays for many hours as if the place is understaffed. Wifi doesn't work. Our Columbia doctor told us we would have a private room with a couch for the husband and they sent us to a very small shared room with no windows. Doctors and staff are busy with emergencies and delay everything for too many hours. They said they would take the baby for 10 minutes and they kept it away from us for many hours. They kept us awake for many hours because of the delays... Terrible experience and terrible service...

I am incredibly grateful to all the doctors and nurses who went above and beyond for my daughter! When we arrived at the hospital, she had a fever of 105.7, and they were so patient with my concerns and anxiety about her health. What I truly appreciate is that they listened to me without judgment and welcomed my questions. They did everything possible to ensure we felt comfortable during our stay. Now, as we prepare for discharge, my daughter is feeling much better! Thank you all so much!!!!!!

Accepted Insurance

New York Presbyterian – Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide a space for clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while receiving intensive supervision and support. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and food and most offer round-the-clock clinical care. Their primary treatment modalities typically consist of addiction counseling using various psychotherapeutic methods, including CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Many rehabs also provide specialized services for clients with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Recovery-focused life skills training and holistic therapies are other common services.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The secret life of Trin

On January 24th I took my 2 year old to this ER with a fever of 104.8, vomiting and other severe symptoms including rapid breathing and shortness of breath. They gave him Motrin and sent us home saying to come back if the fever lasts over 5 days. I told them I wasn’t comfortable taking him home because he just wasn’t himself. Like at all. They told me since he’s up and running around, that means he should be fine. They didn’t want to swab him, do labs.. nothing. So I took him home and he worsened to the point where he wouldn’t wake up unless I VIOLENTLY shook him. I decided to take him to Children’s hospital of montefiore in the Bronx the very next day where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and the flu! His blood sugar was extremely low (60) and he was hooked to two sets of ivs since he was so dehydrated. And he was admitted for over night observations with a chest X ray showing fluid in his lungs. This hospital did absolutely nothing and it could have cost my child his life. They were lazy and negligent all because “he was still active” and it sucks because I had nothing but good experiences with this place when we first moved here from Georgia. I traveled from deep in the Bronx just to get him treated here and they disappointed me. I’m so glad I recorded everything so I can post to my socials and warn others

Let me tell you, and I hope this never happens to any other new mom or just anyone in general. Let me first start off that there were some people that really did try their best to help us and were excellent. Nurses like Yessica and Tenzin, the house keeping staff, Sarah, the linens and people who served us food were amazing, as well as the ladies who checked my vitals….. but NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on 166 st WAS THE MOST OUTLANDISH AWFUL GHETTO EXPERIENCE and at this point if this is the standard then this particular hospital is better off shut down. to think I thought I was going to a really good hospital, and as a new mom!!! A first time mom, with a miracle child let’s go through this encounter shall we We had NO HEAT OR HOT WATER THE ENTIRE TIME I was there. They sent these men to check the heat and my husband tells them clearly! Hey it runs hot for one minute but then turns freezing. The gentlemen came and told him his room is at the end of the hallway we have to wait a minute for the hot water to catch up. Mind you this is on the third day every day we had been there they came checked and we are like please if anything can we switch rooms. At some point since the water wasn’t fixed we had to MICROWAVE WATER! Then it was FREEZING IN THE ROOM and we were told the heat doesn’t work. It’s an old building. So my new born, me and my husband are freezing! House keeping did their best to give u blankets and then on the LAST DAY IM PACKED READY TO GO a man comes to check the window he was like well your window was open. WHAT!!! So does your heat work or not bc the hallway was warm so make that make sense. My c section was supposed to be checked on day 2 so I can bathe it is the third of January she was born the 31st now im four days no bathing bc nobody came and I asked and I got an oops well they were supposed to come. THE WORST!! At this point I was better off with a doula what a way to prove hospitals taking your insurance doesn’t mean they’ll take care of you.
