About Riverview Regional Medical Center

Highpoint Health – Riverview with Ascension Saint Thomas (formerly known as Riverview Regional Medical Center) is located in Carthage, Tennessee. The hospital offers geriatric care, skilled nursing, psychiatric and 24/7 emergency services. The behavioral health services are offered to individuals 55 and older through the Senior Life Solutions program and include treatment for mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders (SUD).

The hospital accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most major insurance plans. Don’t hesitate to contact the financial office for any coverage or billing questions, as well as payment options. The hospital is about an hour from Nashville.

Senior Behavioral Health Treatment Program in Carthage

This hospital, for me, stands out for its geriatric inpatient services. Older adults have unique mental and behavioral health challenges. The care team understands that seniors are often going through certain life changes that may make them more vulnerable to mental health difficulties and even substance misuse.

The program provides treatment for most mental health concerns, as well as co-occurring substance use. Seniors receive clinical support, mental wellness education medication management and 24/7 crisis care and patient monitoring.

To be eligible for the program, individuals must be in withdrawal or imminent withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, and have hallucinations, paranoia, disorientation, threatening behaviors, self-destructive behaviors or an inability to maintain self-care.

Emergency Care and Stabilization

Many individuals with substance use issues end up in the emergency room (ER). This is often the first point of contact with a doctor who notes problematic substance use.

If you come into the hospital with a substance use or mental health crisis, you’ll be medicated and stabilized, depending on the circumstances. After you’re stabilized, the physician can refer you for further mental health or drug treatment.

I noticed that this hospital offers comprehensive services. This includes treatment for most physical health conditions, such as cancer and heart disease, among others.

I had hernia repair surgery performed at Highpoint Health-Riverview with Ascension Saint Thomas. Dr. Nancy Barrett performed the procedure & the entire staff was friendly, professional, and made me feel very comfortable. The nurses were all so kind & Patrick (anesthesiologist) ensured me he'd treat me just as he would a family member. Overall I had a very positive experience at Riverview.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Went in to the hospital with a really high blood pressure 205/198. Was given meds. Ran some test. Said found nothing. Some grumpy lady came said I need to collect a thousand dollars from you. As you share of the cost I said I don’t have a house dollars. Shorty after that I was discharged with a high blood pressure reading of 165/198 Where do they get off requesting a thousand dollars from people. I have medical insurance. And my copay is 300. I say if you don’t have to use Carthage hospital. Don’t.

The staff are very friendly and polite. During my recent surgery all the nurses, Mr Wayne Winfree and Doctor Roy Terry were very professional, informative, and showed compassion towards myself, and my husband. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone needing these type of services.

My finance just got back from that place. Dr. Gayle was his practitioner, can’t call that dude a doctor. He went cuz of his back. He didn’t even do an X-ray and he’s been taking ibuprofen all day and all he did was hand him a toradol, which is in the same family as ibuprofen. They did nothing to help and he’s not feeling no better. I have never had any good experience with this doctor. I guess I won’t ever. We are all just a paycheck and statistic to this place. It’s a joke
