This happened over a year ago but im still disturbed. I came in after being…hacked? stalked? Idk. Weird things were sent to my phone that scared me. When I went to novant in huntersville, they practically hazed me and I was sent to holly hill where the hazing continued. Obviously, you guys were aware. I was followed by a group of teens aged 17-19 ish at Walgreens and they said “did you get a shot of her?” Since I was still being harassed, I got sent here unfortunately. A man in the waiting room said “can I get a shot of her?” When I tried to explain this to a nurse, he was picking his teeth and said, “you must be having some wicked dreams.” Totally dismissed me. You guys are disgusting. There was one nurse, crystal who treated me with humanity. I tried to complain to an advocate and have something done, but i never heard from her again. I wasn’t hallucinating. I was being stalked and harassed. Don’t come here if you are in distress or are having a mental health crisis. They think it’s funny. I was genuinely afraid I was going to get shot.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients who are exiting detox or stepping down from intensive inpatient care typically transition directly into outpatient treatment. Outpatient programs are designed to allow clients to either re-enter or remain in their communities while receiving robust, personalized care. Many facilities offer evening, night, or weekend services to accommodate clients' home and work schedules. The most common outpatient treatment modalities include psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) evolve with clients' changing needs and are often well-suited for clients exiting inpatient rehab and those at an increased relapse risk. These programs typically involve between nine and 20 hours of treatment weekly, with the intensity and frequency of care decreasing as clients stabilize. Most intensive outpatient rehabs integrate a variety of treatment modalities to maintain a high level of individualized care. Services generally include counseling, recovery education, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs offer a complete continuum of care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are predicated on the idea that addiction disease is a chronic condition prone to relapse and warranting continuing care. Clients collaborate with their care team and case manager to access the specific rehab aftercare services they need to promote their sustained sobriety. Peer coaching, relapse prevention services, career counseling, and 12 step program induction are common in these programs.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs are based on a model of life-long recovery and are rooted in peer support and spiritual development. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings is the cornerstone of treatment, as is the selection of a peer sponsor to guide participants through the steps of recovery. These steps are based on non-denominational spiritual principles and are designed to foster self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Specialized programs are widely available, including programs for teens, seniors, and families.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in North Carolina offers structure and support to help individuals maintain sobriety. The home is free from substances and offers 12-step programs, individual responsibilities, and mutual support with others in recovery. This setting can provide a lifeline as individuals strengthen recovery skills and prepare to reenter mainstream society. Most residents remain in a men's or women's sober living home for six months or more.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Often used as a "step-down" option after you've completed a residential or inpatient program, the partial hospitalization program (PHP) typically involves a minimum of 20 hours of treatment per week for approximately 90 days. Programs offer structured programming that includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment varies among insurance providers.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Individuals in early recovery often require 24-hour clinical care in North Carolina. This supervised care typically includes medications to treat specific withdrawal symptoms, which vary based on the substance abused. For example, staff may provide sleep aids to treat insomnia in patients who are addicted to marijuana. For those overcoming a cocaine use disorder, anti-depressants may be prescribed to manage mood swings. Other medications may also be provided to treat addiction-related health issues.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive drugs and alcohol from your body. A team of licensed medical professionals will look after you 24/7 to monitor your health, help minimize discomfort, and provide medications if necessary to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms. This process is typically the first step in your recovery and may take around 5-7 days, although length will depend on your individual needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During couples therapy in North Carolina, a psychologist helps you and your partner resolve problems that are occurring in your relationship. This licensed therapist uses talk therapy to help you both work through challenges together. The process involves learning new skills to better handle conflict and life issues.

Family therapy sessions address the emotional toll that addiction has had on the family unit and individual members. Therapists work with families to develop better coping strategies, which in turn create a stable environment for their loved one's recovery process.

Recreational therapy in North Carolina helps you during drug and alcohol addiction recovery by engaging you in activities that support your physical and mental health. Sports, arts, and outdoor adventures give you positive experiences that help replace substance use and help you develop healthy habits and a support network.

You can participate in creative arts therapy in a variety of settings. Options include medical institutions, rehab facilities, and therapists' offices. Sessions are held in individual and group formats. Types of therapy include music, drama, dance, and painting.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Since January of 2025 my family has experienced the NHRMC Emergency Department on four different occasions. A car crash, post cruise illness and unexplained loss of consciousness, it didn't matter the situation, the ED staff was stellar in providing care for my family members. From checking in and interacting with registration and safety officers to being seen by multiple doctors and nurses, each visit was fantastic. I felt me needs were addressed adequately. Thank you Rowan Medical Center!

FUTURE PARENTS!! Do not choose this hospital for your pregnancy journey!!! My wife was having some pain and discomfort so we went to the ER here after 20 weeks of pregnancy. After research and talks with other OBs there’s a high chance she was in active labor, but the hospital did not know this. My wife was in the ER for 6 hours only to be administered ibuprofen ( which you’re not supposed to take while pregnant!!) and only given an IV. There were no OBs on site, so the unltrasound tech (not the OB on call) performed an ultrasound before the one on call showed up. They confirmed that our son was alive , but they did not play the heartbeat audio which was strange. The OB on call ended up showing up and confirmed the baby was also alive plus that my wife had fibroids( which we had no idea what they were or they were there). She was told that they haven’t been looking for the fibroids is why we hadn’t learned of them….so that felt really inconsiderate to learn that they were not looking for any potential dangers. They then perform a painful cervical check and they discharge my wife saying that there is no urgency for the upcoming MRI and that the baby is alive. 3 hours later my wife miscarries at home and is transported back to the same hospital…where she shouldn’t of ever been discharged. The hospital staff was non empathetic to wife the entire time and when we show up days later to pick up our child after conversing with the hospital the front desk has no idea who we are and asks if our son was discharged because they had no idea we were coming….no ma’am our child is passed away we had to say and then they direct us to where we needed to be. Just no care for patients, especially in emergency situations. No one was prepared or organized and the fact she was discharged and 3 hours later she miscarried is everything you all need to know. Please choose another hospital for your child, we don’t want anyone else to experience this painful situation we’re in and still with no answers as to why. PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR HOSPITAL CHOICE IF HAVING CHILDREN!!

Worst experience with my 1 year old son. Brought him with respiratory distress and O2 issues. The night shift nurses were fantastic. The doctor however only saw us for a very short two minutes and made very rude comments towards my wife. We got discharged while my son was still in labored breathing only to later get told we had to return again for a second visit if we wanted a prescription. The doctor stated what to take in the care plan. Then proceeded NOT to prescribe the medications. When the doctor was asked what can we do until Monday, he tells my wife that if he had all the answers he’d be a millionaire. Novant, please address your contracted ER doctors. They failed us today big time.

I recently had to stay for almost a week after having a 2 level spinal fusion surgery here. This was my first time ever being at this hospital and I have nothing bad to say! The pre surgery staff were comforting and kept me at ease. My surgical team was AMAZING! And the PT staff, CNAs, MED Techs, Nurses, housekeeping, and kitchen staff were all extremely helpful and mindful of my needs. I never once felt uncomfortable with any of the staff I encountered! I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone and would stay here again in a heartbeat if needed in the future!
