About St. Clair Hospital

Their inpatient program has 26 beds and supports people in crisis who need immediate help. I like that as soon as you’re admitted into the program, they start working on your aftercare plan to make sure you have a strong support system in place once you leave their facility. They encourage your friends and family members to help develop your treatment plan because they’re familiar with your needs and condition. While you stay here, you’ll participate in group therapy sessions to work through your condition and understand more about it. If you need medication to help control your symptoms, your team can help you manage those.

If you need recovery support but aren’t experiencing a crisis, you can enter one of their outpatient programs. I thought it was neat that the providers in this program focus on important life skills during group therapy sessions. During these discussions, you’ll learn how to solve problems effectively, become more assertive, and live in harmony with others. They’ll also show you healthy ways to manage stress and what you can do to prevent a relapse.

One former client says they were amazed to find a facility that offers this kind of support so close to home. They say the team of doctors and nurses saved their life and called the program a hidden gem.

Went into the ER today sat for about seven hours. They told us they were gonna wait for her medicine to work and then they were gonna send her home here to find out we call a family member find out she’s being sent up to the mental award talk about misinformation The nurse in the emergency room. Tara couldn’t even turn the blind shades down for the patient that had a migraine because the sun was shining in her eyes. She was too busy on her cell phone at the desk poor bad bedside manners she has we also found out that she said oh she already had her IV solution for hydration so she wasn’t gonna hang the bag that she had brought in. We did not see her with it with an IV hydration fluid bag hanging, but she said that her sister was in there and saw it. I asked her sister and she said no she never saw the bag hanging terrible terrible nurse very scary that this lady is even a registered nurse taking care of patients

I visited St. Clair Hospital ER yesterday for a head injury. There were approximately 13 patients ahead of me in the ER. I was treated within an hour and staff was so extremely kind, considerate, quick to assess and address my needs. I interacted with 5 staff members total and they were a well oiled machine who got me out of the hospital in 3-4 hours even with CT scans, stapling & a tetanus shot. I hear negative things a lot about our local ER’s but I felt like I had to give a nice shout out to those who really took care of me when I needed them.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) live and work in their home community while receiving frequent, high-level care. These programs offer personalized care designed to evolve with the clients' changing needs. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week, but high-risk clients and those in early recovery may receive up to 20 hours of care weekly. IOP services generally include addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as massage.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs prioritize the recovery journey as a life-long process based on personal spiritual growth and ongoing peer support. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are held multiple times each day in most communities, is expected. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected peer sponsor. The 12 steps are designed to encourage participants' self-compassion, awareness, acceptance, and accountability. Dedicated programs for specialized groups, including seniors, teens, and families, are common.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Residents of a sober living home in Pennsylvania pay rent and contribute to household maintenance. For their contributions, individuals get the opportunity to live in a substance-free environment and receive support from others in recovery while all residents practice sober-living skills. Sober living expenses are not covered by insurance since they are not treatment services. However, grants and scholarships are often available to help individuals afford rent for men's or women's sober living.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services bring extensive experience to the planning and conducting of drug interventions in Pennsylvania. These experts can facilitate interventions in a sensitive manner that encourages positive outcomes. The goal of the intervention is to educate the individual about addiction and the consequences of their substance use and encourage them to get the treatment they need. Interventions can be effective with all types of drugs and alcohol addiction.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

With a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you can participate in intensive rehabilitation treatment with the ability to return home at the end of the day. For a weekly minimum of 20 hours, a partial hospitalization program can take place up to 5 days a week for an average of 90 days. During PHP treatment, you can receive relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Because the severity of withdrawal symptoms can fluctuate, constant monitoring under 24-hour clinical care in Pennsylvania is recommended for early recovery. As you undergo detox, medical staff will supervise your health and ensure severe symptoms do not develop or threaten your life. Professional counselors will also be available to treat mental and emotional health needs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Personalized therapy sessions in Pennsylvania typically include a safe and nonjudgmental setting in which you can express your deepest emotions and feelings and explore the factors that have contributed to addiction. Therapists tailor the sessions to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors, which improve your self control and build a foundation for your long term sobriety.

It is important to process the impact that traumatic experiences have had on your life. During trauma therapy, you and an experienced therapist confront these experiences and the emotional impact it is had. This helps to reduce your symptoms of stress and anxiety and improve your overall mental health and well being.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

Family therapy teaches individual family members in Pennsylvania the benefits of collectively combating addiction. Therapists help individual members establish healthy boundaries between themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction. This helps improve emotional support systems and creates a bond so families work together to sustain long term recovery.

Life skills are the mental and social skills that are necessary to navigate day to day life. Addiction diminishes or eliminates these skills, so they must be relearned and practiced during drug rehab treatment in Pennsylvania.

The goal of nutrition therapy is to help you understand how your diet affects your overall health. It teaches you healthy eating habits, which speed up your recovery and give you the nutrients you need for long term physical and mental health.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had… would call for a nurse and have to wait between 30 minutes- 1 hour for a response, very poor communication with each other often asking the same questions and being confused when I tell them the same answer, food was always on different times and would often not receive meals or receive two dinners 5 minutes apart because they were not communicated. Overall a very poor time

This hospital is absolute garbage. Go anywhere but here. Just look at the reviews. At what point is this hospital forced to be shut down. My wife and I had a horrible experience going through St Clair with her miscarriage …. Today I just read a horrible story on Facebook of a serious issue which wasn’t diagnosed. This family finally was able to go to “real” hospital and, what do you know, the real issue was found. Reading it just brought back frustrating memories 😡 NEVER send you family or children to this dump.

This has been a joke. Admitted with infection and they won't properly manage pain. Had me NPO for 2 days because they screwed up and didn't put me on surgery schedule then the 2nd day they did the surgery and got back up on the unit for dinner but got nothing even though the nurses supposedly called for one plus the supposed hospitalist discontinued the 1 pain medice before I went for surgery so of course couldn't get anything after. I asked to see the doctor and here it is 9 hours later and still waiting.

If I could give less than a 0 , I would! My daughter had back surgery there 2 months ago. Last 2 weeks her pain has been much worse and she could barely walk. Took her to the ER and the Nurse and ER doctor basically told her there was nothing they could do! What? She had surgery here. She desperately needed an MRI and we couldn’t get one scheduled until August. We explained that in the ER and were told “ we don’t do that here, we only do them for stroke patients!” Then they made my daughter feel as if she was possibly drug seeking. She is 23 and had back surgery 2 months ago. She was given pain meds after surgery and only took them when the pain was intolerable. I would think that a hospital would care about their surgical patients. Not this hospital! After calling her surgeon they got the order for the MRI. When she asked them to please bring her mother back (me) they stated “why? So she can argue with me too!” We are patient and calm people and never argued with anyone! I wouldn’t step foot back in this place if my life were in danger. They don’t care about their patients and the triage nurse and doctor were horribly inconsiderate of my daughter’s needs. Take yourself elsewhere and avoid this place.
