About Caron Treatment Centers

Caron Pennsylvania is a drug and alcohol rehab center for adolescents and adults, located in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. They provide short term detox, gender specific inpatient treatment, and aftercare services, including specialized support for young adults, seniors, and those with co-occurring addictions.

Their inpatient detox starts with a comprehensive medical assessment. A multidisciplinary clinical team provides 24 hour medical care and supervision. Providers will continually monitor each person’s withdrawal symptoms, along with their physical and mental health. As needed, they may prescribe FDA-approved medications to improve client comfort, reduce drug cravings, and minimize the risk of relapse.

Following detox, you’ll transition into the facility’s inpatient program, which provides separate units for men and women. This program incorporates evidence-based practices such as cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, 12 Step, motivational interviewing, addiction counseling, and a positive peer culture to ensure sustainable sobriety. Your family will be encouraged to participate in counseling to create an environment of long term recovery support.

Aftercare services may include connections to local, community-based providers that can deliver continued support through transportation, vocational training, transitional housing, and other resources.

They’re in-network with many commercial insurance providers. Contact your individual provider to confirm your coverage as out of network benefits might vary.

Do not go here for chronic pain or if you have any anxiety. I attended this place to help me with medication, pain and anxiety. I was judged and made fun of for my anxiety. My disability was ignored- literally. I couldn't get a wheelchair when I needed one,and they were irritated when I needed meds throughout the day due to chronic pain. They disregarded my chronic pain as if it didn't matter I was told to take alleve and Tylenol which does not help. They did not care.I had a severely painful bed sore once I got there due to a short hospital stay, and it was barely treated. The pain I suffered was almost unbearable. They did not care. When Dr. Wang couldn't help he made fun of my anxiety and blamed my issues on that- I went there because they said I would be safe if I had panic attacks, etc.Dr. Wang also shared personal information HE PROMISED NOT TO SHARE with my doctor, and it's made my life hell. He is arrogant. It is still negatively impacting my life to this day. This whole place is made mostly for alcoholics and also people that pay cash- the very wealthy go there and are treated much better. You get treated differently if you pay by insurance, and it's awful. I was trying to talk with Dr Wang one day when he was on the floor, and a nurse said to step away because he was with another patient. I just needed to ask him to see me after. It was humiliating, plus I was so sleep deprived I could barely function. They acted like it was my fault. The RA was fine at first but then acted like I was a nuisance - I would go to her office at times to sit because my bed was SEVERELY uncomfortable. They never offered me a room with a regular bed (vs hospital). The hospital bed was painful. They therapists looked at me without blinking an eye when I tried to explain my insomnia and anxiety. They 100% ignored how sick I am and tried to ship me off to another place for further care when I was about to go to the hospital for beyond severe pain and exhaustion. They did not care. My medications are very messed up now due to the doctor shared info that he swore not to share about me. The therapists there don't have time to sit down and listen to you. When they do, it doesn't matter what you say as they have their minds made upI am not okay and don't suggest this place for anyone with chronic pain or depression/anxiety. Dr. Wang was a huge disappointment and made me feel inferior to him. I was so sleep deprived towards the end that I couldn't think and was not able to stick up for myself. The counselors told anyone who called that I was doing great. That was a lie.The doctor does a cookie cutter method for pain - suboxone is his fix. It's not a fix & he appears to treat everyone the same based on what I heard. Because I couldn't pay cash, I truly believe I got less than adequate treatment and attention. He will promise you he can make you feel much better - it's a lie.I had made an appointment 1 morning to talk to him. He said it must be a mistake and acted irritated. But I was so exhausted I did not have the energy to tell him I needed to talk to him for help- he wouldn't have helped regardless. He does not listen - he talks over you. He did not want a complex case for someone he could not fix, so he blamed me. He cut my appointment and told me to leave. I needed his help. I was also made fun of when my hands were shaking. Verbatim, he said,'I know, I know, your hands are always shaking. You showed me this before, "which I did because I was overwhelmed, in pain, and felt like I was going to have a breakdown.I was truly mistreated by one therapist who said things to me as if I were a child. This was one of the worst mistakes of my life.If you are an alcoholic then I do think they could help, but not for anything else. Without money, then be prepared not to get the same level of care.I don't recommend this place. It was a traumatic experience. I'm not okay at all after this.**They reply to all reviews like this & it doesn't matter now. The damage is done.

Accepted Insurance

Caron Treatment Centers works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. At Caron, they take into account patients’ unique needs and circumstances, including their work and home life. If a client already has a stable, supportive environment in which to recover, they may not need to enter a residential program. In these cases, they often recommend outpatient treatment. This program addresses the same issues and disorders as inpatient treatment while also empowering patients and their families to continue everyday life.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. At Caron Pennsylvania, patients undergo detox in an on-site, self-contained detoxification unit. Caron Renaissance is not an acute care facility and therefore does not offer detox services on site; however, they can arrange for transfers from hospitals and other healthcare centers once patients have finished detoxing.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Caron's full-time, on-site, highly credentialed staff and dynamic, comprehensive inpatient rehab programs meet people where they are. Whether a patient needs residential assessment, detox, inpatient addiction treatment, or long-term recovery support, they are careful to address individualized needs and circumstances.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Caron Renaissance patients can count on them to remain by their sides after treatment. They do everything possible to equip each patient for sober living before treatment ends and through the first year of recovery. One week prior to discharge, every patient at Caron Renaissance receives personalized Continuing Care planning in order to maximize their abilities to live lives of sobriety, serenity, and sustained recovery.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Addiction and behavioral health issues affect persons with substance abuse problems and their loved ones. They understand that the families of addicts are deeply affected. Family members want to help their loved one, but the situation is delicate. Sometimes, the addiction becomes the family’s focus, throwing it into chaos. Addiction to drugs and alcohol inevitably leads to pain, confusion, and sadness. At Caron, they believe the patient is the family, and the family is the patient. In other words, they believe it’s crucial (and in some cases required) for the family to be engaged in holistic rehabilitation from the very beginning of the pre-admission process. They bring family members into the admission and assessment process from the start, so that their input can form the basis for a personalized addiction treatment plan. At Caron Renaissance, they pair new families with an alumni family “buddy” who can provide support, answer questions, and share experiences.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health. Caron focuses on giving patients tools to use as they move forward with life. Educating patients about diet and nutrition is a key part of the treatment that they provide at Caron. Teaching patients about the benefits of healthy nutrition and how to achieve it is an integral part of not only their treatment programming, but also one’s lifelong recovery. Research suggests that healthy eating habits have a positive impact on recovery and the ability to maintain sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I am grateful to share that I attended Caron Grandview (FKA Caron Professionals Program) on the Wernersville Campus in May of 2018. I just celebrated 7 years of continuous sobriety. I could not have done it without the help of Caron. The entire continuum of care at Caron is first rate. From the medical detox to the excellent clinical treatment and to the support I received (and still receive) after leaving campus. Caron also treats the entire family, as this is a disease that affects more than the afflicted individual. Unlike many of its competitors, Caron is non-profit and is staffed by people who have chosen the eradication of this terrible disease as their life's work. If you are at your wit's end and are sick and tired of being sick and tired, look no further than Caron.

Hi I'm sharing my experiences with this disgusting rehabilitation center. at this specific center there is a man named Karl R. I won't give out his whole name because I feel he still deserves privacy. my niece attends this rehabilitation center and reported to me that Karl has been non stop trying to find her family online, won't give up, and then asks for her number. Karl on multiple occasions has made my niece very uncomfortable. I'm afraid to say that one of the employees there, Caren, has done nothing to stop this. Caren if you're reading this, you're a terrible woman.

There's a reason Caron Treatment Center is often referred to as "magic mountain. Without hyperbole, Caron saved my life, full stop. I went there at a particularly fraught time in my life, a time when I didn't really have anywhere left to turn. When I was there, I never felt judged; I was treated with dignity and respect and given the tools, both spiritual and scientific, I needed to battle addiction. The clinical staff is second-to-none, with world-class doctors who are at the forefront of addiction treatment and understanding. My time in treatment there was the greatest gift I have ever given myself (or ever received, truly). For families, the education program Caron offers is a HUGE help, offering tools to help them better understand what addiction is and what it is not. For anyone suffering from addiction (no matter the source), you'll receive no better care than in the embrace of Caron.

Honestly a fun place, met tons of friends. I personally was in TMS (teen male sector) or some shit. But it was really fun and I liked the detox from everything. Funny story but I found Coke at Caron assuming it was one of the RA’s but they were very ontop of it and found it on me before I vacuumed all of it up. Later ended up hearing it got pinned on the wrong worker. Very sad but I loved my time there and will not be an experience to forget. I’d like to shout out John, Lorraine, Jake and Samir for helping me achieve abstinence from all drugs long term. Also shout out my counselor Jess which was very open and considerate. One thing I don’t like though is how if your a younger patient they will like you push an after care treatment on you. Being a kid this is scary as you have no control over it. At the time I had no idea what my parents were gonna choose and the counseling team is fast to convince them. Don’t fall for it though as it only helps Carons image of a successful rehab and Caron benefits from it. But that’s the only kicker and nail in the shoe I have for Caron.

Caron saved my life. I came here with cirrhosis from the Pacific Northwest, in need of a liver transplant and I had hit a brick wall with what was available to me geographically. The staff -- from the admissions team to the doctors and nurses to the therapists, counselors, down to the cafeteria truly care. Not just about sobriety, but about healing the whole person. From clinical therapy to spiritual and musical support, I felt seen and supported every step of the way. Group sessions were powerful, and the community helped me rediscover my strength. The facility is beautiful, the food was great, and the range of holistic care -- from yoga to trauma informed work -- was exactly what I needed to maintain a healthy recovery. They gave me the tools to live a better life. I highly recommend this program and this facility to anyone, especially those who feel lost and on a road leading nowhere but death. I am happy to say that I leave here NOT needing a new liver and sobriety is the key. This truly is Magic Mountain. Worth every penny.

Do not go here for chronic pain or if you have any anxiety. I attended this place to help me with medication, pain and anxiety. I was judged and made fun of for my anxiety. My disability was ignored- literally. I couldn't get a wheelchair when I needed one, and they seemed irritated when I needed meds throughout the day due to chronic pain. They disregarded my chronic pain as if it didn't matter. I was told to take alleve and Tylenol which does not help. They did not care. I had a severely painful bed sore once I got there due to a short hospital stay, and it was barely treated. The pain I suffered was almost unbearable. They did not care. When Dr. Wang couldn't help he made fun of my anxiety, and blamed my issues on that. I went there because they said I would be safe if I had panic attacks, etc. Dr. Wang also shared personal information HE PROMISED NOT TO SHARE with my doctor, and it's made my life hell. He is arrogant. It is still negatively impacting my life to this day. I have an abdominal injury that causes me severe pain. One nite I asked if the nurse would call the doctor because I was hurting badly & needed permission to take some over the counter medication. She refused to call him because she thought I would be fine until the morning. I was up all nite in pain. When they do, it doesn't matter what you say as they have their minds made up I am not okay and don't suggest this place for anyone with chronic pain or depression/anxiety. Dr. Wang was a huge disappointment and made me feel inferior to him. I was so sleep deprived towards the end that I couldn't think and was not able to stick up for myself. The counselors told anyone who called that I was doing great. That was a lie. The doctor does a cookie cutter method for pain - suboxone is his fix. He appears to treat everyone the same based on what I heard. Because I couldn't pay cash, I truly believe I got less than adequate treatment and attention. He will promise you he can make you feel much better - it's a lie. I had made an appointment 1 morning to talk to him. You showed me this before, "which I did because I was overwhelmed, in pain, and felt like I was going to have a breakdown. I was mistreated by one therapist who said things to me as if I were a child. This was one of the worst mistakes of my life. I don't recommend this place. It was traumatic and a bad experience.

If you have anywhere anywhere else to go you will survive. These people are child predators. Plant cameras in all the lights .that s why they go out all the time

Needs to work better with ethical standards. Had property stolen by another patient and instead of staff handling it the right way, Clinical counselor Nick in Yamp had the audacity to get in my face and invalidate the situation by telling me about my past bumps I had during treatment and to get over it because it was “Only a $10 Item stolen”

Four years sober, no thanks to this place. Very disappointed. Had high hopes but found myself being indoctrinated into an AA cult. Focus on therapy, CBT, medication, and mental health. A spirit walk chanting in front of magic stones, waving a magic stick around, and ringing a bell isn't going to cure anyone. If you're into AA, great. If you're not, stay the hell out... I needed mental help and you gave me a big book. AA is a WASTE OF TIME.

Would leave 0 stars if possible. Do yourself and your family members a favor and save your money if you're thinking about choosing this place as a recovery option for your family member. My brother has attended here multiple times and every single time he has gotten out hes right back to it. They do nothing but enable the alcoholics to continue their shitty behavior to family and the people who were there to support them. They will also show up unannounced to your private property accusing you of things that never happened ultimately listening to the drunk they are taking in and not the sober people surrounding them. They do nothing for people with extreme addiction and my brother is a prime example. Countless months and thousands of dollars spent here and for what?! The same outcome? You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
