About Sound Mental Health – Tukwila West

Popular for its Westfield Southcenter Mall, Tukwila, Washington is also home to Sound Mental Health – Tukwila West. They provide comprehensive outpatient care for adults, youth, and families battling addiction, mental health conditions or intellectual and developmental disabilities. You’ll benefit from a supportive environment with specialized programs to embark on your recovery journey.

Outpatient rehab provides the flexibility of living at home and managing other responsibilities while getting the help you need. They provide individual counseling to help you recognize and address the behaviors contributing to addiction.

What stands out most to me is their specialized tracks. From culturally competent approaches for the BIPOC community to accessible programs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, you can access tailored care to meet your unique needs. Some targeted programs include age-specific tracks, criminal and juvenile justice services, programs for people with developmental disabilities and more.

Of these programs, their recovery support for the LGBTQIA+ community and older adults really caught my eye. I think these tracks are great because they ensure you receive inclusive care to foster a sense of belonging among others on similar paths.

Another great feature I noticed was their Adult Community Support (ACS). This program provides integrated care for co-occurring disorders. They strive to help you gain independent living skills to flourish in recovery. You can access individual, group, and family therapy, peer support, case management, crisis intervention and other services.

One of the best things about this track is they refer and coordinate access to essential resources. They link you to vocational services, housing resources, educational resources, physical healthcare and self-help groups. You’ll benefit from improving other vital life aspects to aid in your journey.

I am absolutely disgusted with the behavior of this place! My girlfriend was lied to and mistreated by this company. She was given the wrong prescription, and her perscriber Chris flat out lied about having seen her for a virtual appointment in December 2024, and that appointment clearly did not happen. Instead it was canceled at the last minute. Having seen the suffering and pain this place caused my girlfriend to go through, I am completely enraged by their practices. I am not surprised to see so many negative comments about this place, and I have family who work in the medical field. This place is a fraud. stay far far away from Sound and go elsewhere. I agree with everybody giving a 1 star to this place, My girlfriend is a victim of this facility and was prescribed incorrect medicine by these people, having seen the pain they have caused her im amazed nobody has shut this hell hole down.

My daughter started going August '24. She had been struggling with focusing in school. She seen the school psychiatrist and gave her an assessment which she was recommended to take medication. She was told to find a therapist and she decided to go to Sound. Well in order for her to get the medication she would need a recommendation from the therapist to set up an appointment to see the psychiatrist. My daughter mentioned several times to Tyler Schell that mentally she can't focus in school and that she wants and needs medication to help her focus. Instead he recommended groups. And the kicker for me is when my daughter told him what she was going through in school and all he said was I'm sorry you're feeling that way without any solutions. Because to my knowledge a therapist job description is: therapist's job is to help people address mental and emotional challenges. They provide a safe and confidential space for clients to discuss their concerns and work towards improving their well-being. So sitting listening to her yet not giving her solutions means Tyler Schell FAILED to do any of this with my daughter.I had been asking my daughter how therapy was going and she would tell me meh, nothing spacial happened. I've asked did you get any remedies to help with your issues, she would always tell me not really but I'll figure it out. I seen no change in my daughter and seen that situations were getting more challenging for her to navigate school. If medication is what my daughter needed he came in the way of her seeing some type light at the end of the tunnel. Y'all need to reevaluate how to help the patients. Parents if you see no change in your teenager/s ask questions and most importantly be their advocate. No matter what your insurance status is mental health is important and no one should suffer. And if you don't like your job quit and find another passion but don't play with peoples mental health. So I say if you're a young African-American find someone that truly cares and wants to help you navigate your challenges but also find you a BIPOC therapist.Tyler you FAILED my daughter. You should find you another line of work.My daughter could have gotten the medication she needed to help her to really focus so she could graduate this year. Doesn't take 5 months for you to constantly hear a patient say I can't focus in school for you to realize that this person needs medication.P.S.I wonder if this is worth getting the news involved to see how many patients Sound has failed and what's going on with the staff. Cause I already have my email ready to send...

Accepted Insurance

Sound Mental Health – Tukwila West works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

It took me forever to get an appointment, and after I finally got it they changed the date like three times! Unprofessional.

Don’t bother trying to get help from this organization. They don’t have the resources to help you. Call a crisis line. When I complained to my counselor about being jerked around by this agency, they told me Sound had hired a CEO a few years ago and ever since, it’s been run into the ground. The board needs to address this and be accountable to the state.

My son had intake at the Seattle location with Sam. He was amazing! We are now established at the Tukwila office and let me tell you, I feel like we are finally getting the help we've been searching for. Gitane and Joe exceed expectations of communication. They genuinely care, making my son feel more than just another client. My husband and I feel so supported. Sound has been a huge relief for my family and I am forever grateful!

Place is growing worse all the time. Constant absenteeism by counselors. No communication at all. Classes regularly cancelled. This place can and will aggravate any sort of mental health issue you may have.

My interactions with this company have left a lot to be desired. Initial intake took over a month to get. We were told we would receive a call for a therapist to schedule; it never happened. We were told a psychiatrist would be assigned; never happened. The phone number provided multiple times was out of service. When calling the only other phone number we could find as contact, we were given conflicting information every single time we called. If I could give zero stars, I would. The star given on this review goes only to the Northgate staff who were welcoming, kind and caring during intake. Ps. A better medical interpreter service should be in place. Language should never be a barrier for equity in the healthcare world.

After my child had his initial intake which took over a month to get, we were told that he would be assigned a therapist and they would contact us the following week to set up appointments. We are now at 3 weeks later and everytime I call they tell me the same thing, "I will send them an email and have them contact you. I will stress that you have been kept waiting and have been trying to follow up." The number they gave me to contact the person who did the intake does not actually work and you can only call the call center where no one can actually help you. Thanks for the help guys!
