About Tropical Texas Behavioral Health

Tropical Texas Behavioral Health, located in Edinburg, Texas, provides a structured setting for individuals to recover from drug and alcohol addictions and get help with pretrial and probation cases. They offer dual diagnosis treatment, providing help for anyone that is having a difficult time recovering from addiction because of mental health roadblocks. They also offer telemedicine and telehealth services. They accept Medicare and Medicaid.

This program treats both adolescent and adult men and women, and they offer multiple levels of care. These include inpatient detox services, standard outpatient care, intensive outpatient care, and aftercare through the federal court system. Outpatient care gives you the freedom to return home after attending therapy sessions rather than live at an inpatient center.

For those seeking federal pretrial and probation assistance, their Federal Pretrial Treatment Program assists adult men and women who are waiting for their trial date on drug-related charges. The same can be said about their Probation Aftercare Program. The way it works is that you’ll be assigned to your designated probation officer who will work in unity with you and the center’s staff. The treatment system has three phases and can help empower you to live a life free from drugs. Their Bureau of Aftercare program aims to help adults that have been paroled from drug use charges.

From a mental health standpoint, they offer skills training services, which are structured activities that can be very therapeutic by promoting group interactions, recreational activities, and stress management. They also have case managers who are always ready to assist you with anything that needs tending to.

I'd give them zero stars if I could.I blame Tropical for my dyskinesia, a neurological condition that involves involuntary body movements, because they sent me to the Rio Grande State Center, which turned out to be a stressful environment that I never needed to be in... So I blame the RGSC too, but Tropical feels so generic and predatory. From the beginning, they didn't actually listen to my concerns, which were that I've believed myself to be on the Autism spectrum for several years with probably ADHD... Which apparently they don't even do assessments for Autism, so that would've been nice of them to disclose that to me, rather than just glossing over my concerns.Instead, they took portions of what I said regarding eating and sleeping, which I have no issue with, also took what I said about my spiritual experiences and labeled them as "hallucinations"... basically just twisted my words around to jot them down as potential disorders, then sent me to RGSC without informing me first. They purposely don't disclose certain information, so that you won't refuse "treatment". All I wanted was a therapist and I got a disability. :) Thanks, Tropical!I will be looking for an attorney to file a lawsuit against this place for predatory, dishonest practices, which led to my newly acquired disability.

Accepted Insurance

Tropical Texas Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Texas may be necessary if your loved one is in denial about a substance use disorder. You can partner with intervention services to plan and execute an effective intervention that educates your loved one about addiction and encourages them to get the treatment they need. Many rehab centers offer intervention specialists who can facilitate the intervention and help with a seamless transition to inpatient rehab for treatment.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

In Texas, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs can treat individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse challenges. Usually offered on an inpatient or outpatient rehab basis, clinicians provide individual and group therapy, medication-assisted treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and skills training to address both disorders and equip you with the skills to maintain your recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Peer support is an important aspect of group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction. As you and your peers share stories and encourage each other, it fosters a sense of community and belonging that helps you process your feelings and reduces the sense of isolation that is associated with addiction.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Together with an experienced trauma therapist, you work on healing emotional wounds from traumatic experiences within a trauma therapy environment. Your therapist will help you process the experience of the trauma, which promotes emotional healing and improves your overall mental health.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

The right life skills training will help you build the skills you need for recovery. You'll learn how to solve problems, improve your social life, enhance your mental health, and make good decisions. This is a key component of drug rehab programs in Texas.

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

I came to this place covered in bug bites and displaced. I was exploited and trafficked which resulted in family problems that led to me running away. I ended up almost ending my life and someone picked me off the side of the road, from Sandia recommending this place even though it was a drive. I enjoyed the care I received, minus one of the workers stealing money from my wallet, stalking me a year later and trying to commit fraud against me over a check they took a picture of in my wallet. I know it was from this place because its the only place I stayed the month of May and the only people who had access to my wallet during this time. The check was dated for May of last year. The ordeal almost got me into trouble for attempted fraud against my grandmother. Dont know who it was but ALSO, I mentioned in my intake form I had low BP they prescribed a med that lowed my BP to help with my trauma symptoms. I passed out multiple times there. They released me with the medication. I later used it in attempted suicide, my HR was in the 30s, bp 60/40 and they had to put AED pads on me.

Very RUDE worker in the pharmacy TWO days in a row she was very disrespectful and had an attitude with me every time I spoke to her. I felt like I was the only one she spoke or treated this way. I'm NEVER COMFORTABLE going up to the window when I see her standing there.

This place is unorganized. They don't have any answers or know what's going on. My daughter had an appointment on 8/12 for a follow up. She never was seen. They rescheduled for 8/20 @8am. They waited over an hour and they said they need to look for a case worker who will see her..... if they schedule you to get seen, they should have someone available for that time slot. Mentality..."we're going to schedule you, but not have anyone to see you on that day and time." They have 0 consideration for people's time. The worst place to bring someone who needs help.
