About Wedge Recovery Center – Juniper Office

Wedge Recovery Center – Juniper Office is a behavioral health facility located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They treat people for many different kinds of mental health issues. They also treat people with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues (dual diagnosis). They have several other facilities around Philadelphia that focus on substance use issues.

Outpatient Services in Philadelphia

You can schedule an appointment for an intake meeting or simply walk in. You’ll provide basic information to an intake specialist. Then you’ll receive an evaluation from a psychiatrist who will determine any mental health conditions you have and whether or not you should be treated at this location or a different one.

You will be treated with individual or group therapy once a week. The doctor may also recommend family or couples counseling.

Day Program with Specialized Groups

People who need a higher level of treatment may get treatment through the Recovery and Education Center (REC). People in this program have major mood disorders such as anxiety or a psychotic disorder. Members get to choose the activities and groups they will participate in for the day. You may attend educational sessions where you’ll learn about mental health or develop new skills. They also have a group for people with dual diagnosis in which you will be offered coping skills that can help you avoid the urge to use substances to deal with mental health issues.

In addition to traditional therapy, they offer equine therapy and spirituality-based group sessions. They have a group specifically for older clients offered on Saturdays. They also offer massage therapy and health and wellness groups.

Opioid Use Disorder Treatment

The company has several locations that offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) to those with opioid use disorder. The trained staff can administer the medications until you are stabilized and you can take them on your own. They also have therapy designed especially for opioid users.

So I'm discharged from the hospital in September. They don't have an appointment until November. Fine, I'll live, I said.I get there, and it's just intake. I had been waiting for my medication for three months. I get hospitalized two more times, before I finally see the psychiatrist in December. She informs me that there is a waiting list for therapy. Fine, I'll live, I said.So 2022 comes and goes and it's April, and still no therapist. I'm so emotionally freaked out that I end up in a group home.I leave the group home because I finally realize that I am the only one who can determine my self-worth, I find a place to live, and tell CBH that I refuse to be seen by The Wedge ever again.I mean seriously, what did you expect?

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place is absolutely awful. My son had been going here since he was 5 he's now 12 going to be 13 next month they NEVER can keep therapist so about 2 years ago they never called to replace and luckily my son was doing well enough with just seeing the doctor once every 2 months. They decided to drop him and I had to go in for a full evaluation for him. They dropped him for not going to therapy. But they didn't have a therapist for him..... so then a few months ago I went in 2 hours to do an evaluation AGAIN and guess what still no therapist.. now fast-forward to today May 14th I just got a call. His appointment on June 5th is canceled because the wedge is closing down its 2 weeks before they close on may 30th close are you kidding me how unprofessional how disgraceful. I am actually livid my blood is boiling and they deserve to be shut down.

I been going to the wedge for I think six years . The only thing I didn’t like was that the therapist would leave for a different job or just wasn’t that great but the doctors psychiatrists were great help me balance my mood and keep me calm plus my schizophrenic medication saved my life and being in rec and having someone check up on u that really care like Jane which she would get a lot of correct for helping my mental state . Thank you doctor A. For the wise advice and prescribed the right meds for me. I’m better than I have been in 6 years . Thank you all at the wedge on juniper street . Plus genoa. Thank you all

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I'd love to give them more details description but I've been trying to get to see someone for about a month now everyone they assign me seems to go away all of a sudden although the staff is very friendly I know two people that I've seen for intake seems very knowledgeable it's just the fact of pinning one down long enough for a session when I finally get to see someone I'll update

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I've been trying to see a therapist here since November. The therapist who said they could take me on as a patient no longer can and this was never communicated to me. I was given a diagnoses I've never gotten before and meds I've never taken before and thrown on a waitlist without my knowledge. Doesn't seem like this facility actually cares about their community or the people that are seeking out help from a place of desperation.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I went to this place for over a year and a half. My therapist was great but the psychiatrists were always a problem. Never knowing what's going on, one of them downright rude. I left town for 9 weeks and came back, went through intake, waited around for 6 weeks and was never assigned to a therapist. I was going through hell at the time so this was particularly bad. Director calls me, turns out there are no therapists available? It's a good thing I'm not suicidal.
