I checked myself in because I was a nervous wreck & had a bad sleeping disorder & was dealing with depression, anxiety and stress. Well learned my lesson to never go back. The nurse ot should I say rude lady that took me upstairs had a nasty attitude when we got to the psych ward department I was asked to sit down & I informed them that I couldn’t sit down the rude lady that took me up there then said in a firm aggressive voice you need to do as your being told. The nurse that asked me to sit down ignored her and had me sign myself in then shared her opinion about what the rude nurse had said. Now idk how I managed be w/o my phone, eat the food they gave us & deal with all the cray crays that were in there. We took our meds & played uno everyday and all throughout the day. It was our pass time & all we had to do other than sit on the couch with no blanket to watch tv. There was this one chick there that would ask me to play uno yet she played it different and had a funky attitude & would snap at me when she felt like it. The only person that was sweet up there was the Asian nurse. We had to shampoo and wash our body with some cheap shampoo from the hospital with cold water & had to clean up all the water off the floor so no one would fall. Then you have to share a room with 3 other ppl that funky attitudes. It was hell!! If your willing to deal with all the cons then feel free to go there otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it!!

I absolutely love this place. My doctor Dr Kimberly Parks knows her stuff! I used to take a useless antipsychotic but she prescribed me a different medicine that really helps my mood, my thoughts, and my outlook on life. She is very knowledgeable and very smart. She helped me overcome suicidal thoughts by providing me with a medication that works! I'm very grateful for coming into association with her and am thankful for the help she's given me. She also helped me cut down on smoking by giving me anxiety medication and yeah I'm just way happy with the care I've received from her.

Accepted Insurance

Ben Taub Hospital Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Douglas Brown was admitted for three weeks by a court order for attempted suicide and prescription drug addictions and numerous mental health conditions, suggest schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder among others. His fiancé has medical power of attorney because when he was in his right mind, he knew that he did not think logically when he goes into his psychotic states However, when he was admitted this time, he was receiving brain shocks and monitoring his drug use and was inpatient his fiancé was supposed to have medical power of attorney for when he is mentally impaired, and or cannot make his own decisions however, the staff blocked his my chart information and refused to release information to fiancé, even though she was power of attorney when he’s in a bad situation They said that it was his decision however, he should not be allowed to make such a decision if they are claiming that he needs to be retained by a court order and is mentally unstable now there is no telling what they are doing to him or with him and there’s no one to honor that situation that is of sound mind if a patient is hospitalized by court order and is not of sound mind according to the medical team, the significant other, who has power of attorney should be at the very least kept informed of their progress not knowing put a great deal of stress in our home situation and financial situation And every situation that Douglas abandoned by his inpatient stay so at the very least knowing what was going on would’ve been helpful instead of adding to the stress The whole purpose of a power of attorney is so that when the person is in this type of state, the significant other, who has a logical and sound mind can be aware of what’s going on and make decisions if necessary

I went here for interim care last month and I debated on saying something here but I need to do so because it’s still unsettling. The reviews are correct. There’s a Nigerian nurse that works here that should not. Seeing the other reviews made me realize it wasn’t me overthinking it! She had to interview me before seeing the doctor and she literally was judging me as I was answering the questions. Her demeanor and faces she made were totally unacceptable for someone in this kind of profession. A little later, when I was in the waiting room, she snickered and laughed at me as she walked back to her office. Idk if she just didn’t believe the symptoms I said I was experiencing or not but her behavior was completely out of line. She needs to be fired immediately. We already go through a lot with our mental illnesses. No one needs to deal with this kind of foolishness while at their lowest. So ridiculous.

Response from the owner
Thank you for sharing your experience. Everyone deserves to feel respected and heard when seeking care. We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to reach out directly at 713-970-4640 and ask for a nurse manager if you’d like to discuss your experience further. Your well-being is important to us, and we are committed to providing compassionate and supportive care to all patients.

Just came to get help and I was made to wait 4 hours and probably would have waited another 4 which is ridiculous but the system is broken. The vibe here made me feel like a lunatic so I deff will never do inpatient here. Y’all do not care about helping these people that are on drugs because to you it’s just a job. You have to have access to a good amount of money to get decent help for mental health otherwise you end up in dumps like this that work for the county and do not give a s***.

Response from the owner
Hello Jennifer, We appreciate you sharing your experience. Our goal is to provide compassionate and effective care for every patient. If you have any specific concerns or would like to discuss your experience further, we encourage you to reach out to us at 713-970-4640 and ask to speak with a supervisor. Your feedback is important, and we are always looking for ways to improve.
