Regrettably, my experience in trying to secure the best and consistent care for my sister (4/8--5/5/24) resulted in grave concerns, particularly regarding the quality of care and management. Examples of concerns highlighted are as follows.1) Per the Administrator, the purpose of this meeting (4/9) was to introduced key staff personnel and the Care Plan Team meeting was forthcoming once evaluations were completed. If such a meeting took place, my sister and I were not privy to it or a copy of the care plan . Additionally, per the Administrator, even with Power of Attorney documents, my sister can make her own decisions; therefore, they were not obligated to keep me informed.2) Staff issues as evident by nurses given the opportunity to work double or split 8-hour shifts; nursing staff pulled from first when more coverage was needed on second or third floor; many occasions when no one would be at the nurse station; and staff didn t respond in a timely manner to the call button especially when delivering meals or medications.3) My sister continued to complain about being so cold; the thermostat was usually set at a high temperature; and she wanted the door kept closed due to draft from hallway. Per my sister, a staff member came into her room; said it was too hot in there; raised the window and then left. Because my sister is non-ambulatory, she had to wait for another staff member to come in and close it.4) My sister was left in the dining room area for approximately 2 hours; and got so cold sitting up there. I inquired about this (4/22) and one of the nurses commented so many inconsistencies there .and (they) are afraid she may slide out of her chair and wanted someone to keep an eye on her. Furthermore, because she always kept her door close, staff , when in the area, or the therapy staff across the hall from her room can t check on her.5) The PA at the orthopedic fracture clinic (4/16) requested that the facility get hip X-rays as they do not have access to a Hoyer lift. Despite following up on this , if the X-rays were done neither I nor the clinic received the results.6) My sister had not shown up for her 8:00 appointment (4/18) and no one was answering the phone at the facility. When I arrived, she was still sleep; and the driver was, seemingly, unconcern because she said the appointment wasn t until 10:00. Because of the actions of the wound care nurse, myself and the wound care office staff; we were able to keep this appointment. I spoke with the Administrator (4/19) and she simply stated that the nurse gave the driver incorrect information and the Director of Nursing took care of it.7) I requested to speak with the Nurse Practitioner-4/22 about my sister's care. I was told she comes to the facility on Tuesdays and Fridays but wasn t sure of the time as they stated they may not even see her or know she s in the building. However, she would put my name in book letting the NP know I want to see her. We continued to play phone tag. Additionally, I expressed my concern to the Administrator and reached out to the corporate office but to no avail.8) The assistant was pressuring my sister to finish the assessment even though the therapy department director told her she was already doing the paperwork to discharge her. I heard my sister telling the assistant she was exhausted. The assistant responded: I know, she keeps taking breaks. And if I wanted her to stop, fine then, you can take her back to her room. 9) Unfortunately, my sister was readmitted to Myers Park in September, 2024; and it was noted it was under new management. I found the social worker's actions involving the POA documents and complying with my sister s son s directive to be very troubling. She continued to pressure, badger and/or intimidate to the point that my sister finally gave her her personal items (e.g. purse, wallet, checks..) Consequently, I reached out to the new Administrator and then to the COO (12/24) at the corporate level, but again to no avail.Respectfully Submitted,Nancy D. Spencer

This is a place you would put your grandparent in if you hated them. The building is filthy, nurses are asleep at their desks, and paint is falling off of the walls

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Clients receiving treatment at an inpatient rehab facility are typically in early recovery or are at heightened risk of relapse. Clients in inpatient care remain at the facility for the duration of their program, enabling them to focus solely on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive psychotherapy, often including group and family counseling as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills education is another common service. Many rehabs also offer evidence-based holistic therapies.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

This facility does not provide patients with adequate food. The ticket the patient gets with their tray states they are receiving food they never get. They actually get applesauce & crackers as a meal or a piece of cheese toast and the food is late if they get a tray at all. The family member that is staying there was actually saying he is hungry & is not provided food on a daily basis. This patient has stayed at other facilities and never complained about not getting adequate food & being HUNGRY !!! This is a disgrace to treat our elderly people this way. For God's sake..at least feed them. I don't know how this facility stays open.
