Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in rehab aftercare programs receive a customized portfolio of services designed to promote their sustained sobriety. These clients have completed high-level treatment, are typically exiting detox and/or intensive inpatient care and are reintegrating into their home, workplace, and community. Rehab aftercare services address addiction disease as a chronic condition requiring continuing care. Clients typically work with case managers and recovery teams to access necessary resources, such as peer coaching and 12 step program induction support.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

You can participate in couples therapy to focus on a specific problem in your relationship or for general strengthening of the relationship. This therapy aims to help you improve communication, address conflict, and grow in affection for one another.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Coping with day to day living is a challenge while in addiction recovery. Life skills training helps you learn how to manage daily tasks and deal with stress in healthy ways. This is key to long term recovery.

Jill Kennedy needs to stop assuming her patients are addicted to a medication that helps. And patients shouldn't have to wait so long to see a therapist after their original one leaves the office. I don't trust my psychologist what so ever.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Tiffany, thank you for sharing that experience. We will pass your message along to the care team.

This is so very convenient to be able to see my doctor via video appointment. Kathy Green is a great doctor. She listens to what I have to say. And takes the time to understand it. This is very important to me with any kind of doctor I have.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
That is absolutely fantastic to hear. Thank you for writing in!

I waited for 15 mins after my appointment. And I can never get through to people answering the damn phones. In fact if I could give just 1/2 star...I would. I love my provider, Kathy Green and even tho I only met once with Michelle, I liked her also. The med adviser also.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for sending in this feedback, Mistie. This message will be shared with our care team.

I'm not comfortable sharing the full details of my experience. There was employee gossip and drama that created an unprofessional environment. The assistant director's actions led to a conflict of interest in my therapy, which was incredibly frustrating. My provider either ignored or failed to recognize my mental health symptoms, which put me at risk of relapse. Even the Peer program, which should have been a supportive resource, was compromised by inappropriate behavior and boundary-crossing from the peer assigned to me. It’s been a while so there’s a chance they’ve cleaned up, but still, while I can't speak for other Citizen Advocates clinics, I would strongly advise against seeking treatment at the Massena location.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
This is not the experience we want anyone to have at one our clinics, Chase. We will look into this. Thank you.

Wow…ok. So..I left a previous review about their medical neglect of my 8yo son and now..it’s gotten even worse!! Today, I received a call saying they needed to cancel my son’s appt. Wouldn’t be a huge deal..except they’ve already been refusing to give him his meds, which he is court ordered to have, until he is seen. On top of that, they switched his counselor 3x and I was just told by the receptionist that 1 of those times was completely unnecessary!! So, my poor child who suffers from suicidal thoughts and severe depression (previously diagnosed as such), continues to go untreated bcuz this place can’t seem to do the jobs they’re hired to do!! Medical neglect at its FINEST! So,,,I’m contact my attorney. I’m DONE playing this game! My son’s AFC will be notified and I will be showing all of the records from his medical chart to family court. I will not be just letting them neglect my child! Absolutely not!! Too many kids are committing suicide these days and these organizations are SUPPOSED to be helping…yet they’re making the problems WORSE! It’s disgusting! Sorry to the kid with the broken back…but my kids LIFE is no less important than yours.
