About Daniel Driscoll – Neponset Health Center

The Daniel Driscoll’s Neponset Health Center is a branch of Harbor Health located in Boston, Massachusetts. They offer personalized outpatient treatment for people living with substance use disorder.

Outpatient treatment services take a whole-person approach and include behavioral healthcare interventions, like group and individual therapy, as well as medication monitoring and treatment of other medical concerns. Medication assisted treatment is also available, where you’re given medication that helps curb your cravings and withdrawal symptoms, while also getting the behavioral therapy you’ll need to break free of the cycle of addiction. A real plus point is that it’s coordinated with dental care to help restore your smile, which can unfortunately be affected by long-term substance use.

Support from the Neponset Health Center goes beyond therapy and medication. They also help clients get back on their feet and back into the community with food, transport, housing, and other life issues, so they can lead a healthy and independent life.

One great thing is that Medicaid and most other insurance plans are accepted. For clients without insurance, discounts are available on a sliding fee scale based on family income and size.

I am here to check to see why a needed prescription for my mother s , who has COPD, nebulizer. I ve been playing phone tag with them for 24 hours. Talked to a person 3 times yesterday and nothing. Someone called me back this morning at8:30am and said they would speak to the provider and call back. No call back in 10 hours. She talked to someone and was guaranteed that a prescription was sent. Nothing sent. I spoke to a pharmacist who checked the computer and verified nothing had been sent. And now I m standing here trying to talk to someone and there is no one at the desk. The care and service at this unacceptable location has gone downhill since it became part of a corporate monstrosity. I am in the process of moving her care to a place where she will get that, care!!!

My experience has been exceptionally positive. I had the privilege of being treated by Dr. Richard Lubens, who demonstrated remarkable kindness and dedication. He generously invested time in my care and exhibited great patience. Additionally, during my visit to the Woman s Health Consultation, I encountered an equally compassionate Registered Nurse Practitioner (RNP), whose name unfortunately escapes me. It surprises me that there are negative comments, as I have yet to encounter anyone who wasn t kind to me. The lab technician was really nice too.

Accepted Insurance

Daniel Driscoll – Neponset Health Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medically supervised detox is the process of removing addictive substances from your body and managing the withdrawal symptoms in a medically supervised environment. Typically, this is the first step in the recovery process and lasts an average of 5-7 days, though the length can vary depending on your individual needs. Once your system is cleared of alcohol and drugs, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

Group therapy is a safe space for participants to share their stories and experiences within a confidential and judgment free environment. You have the opportunity to openly discuss your difficulties and create a network of community support that can extend long after group therapy sessions end.

Therapists in Massachusetts offer individual therapy in a confidential setting to help you explore the complex factors that have contributed to your drug addiction. Using a tailored approach, your therapist supports you and utilizes evidence based treatment modalities to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors. This builds a foundation for enduring sobriety.

Four principles are key to motivational interviewing in Massachusetts. First, the therapist offers empathy for the client's feelings and experiences. Second, they encourage the client to believe in themselves and their ability to change. Third, the therapist refrains from imposing their own viewpoints. Lastly, the therapist helps the client identify discrepancies in their circumstances and future goals.

Trauma therapy addresses the psychological impact of experiencing a traumatic event. You can also experience mental and emotional injury after witnessing a trauma. By identifying what triggers those responses and developing effective coping mechanisms, you can rebuild a sense of safety and trust in your environment.

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

During family therapy, the therapist works with every member of the family unit to understand the role they play in their loved one's addiction. By addressing these patterns, family members learn healthier ways to interact with each other and contribute to a more effective recovery journey for the family member who is addicted.

The best time for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in Massachusetts is the moment you quit. You can start this therapy right away to lessen cravings and withdrawal symptoms, so the process is easier. Research has shown that NRT increases the chances of success. Options include patches, gum, inhalers, sprays, and lozenges.

Extremely rude and inconsiderate, I travelled on the T for over an hour to get to my gynecology appointment, had to reschedule even though I called ahead to let them know I was running late twice. They never transferred me to the department to confirm anything. When I arrived they told me I needed to reschedule even though I was only 5-10 mins off from their 15 min grace period. Most places have a 30 min grace period. Told them I'd even wait for a different provider and was told "that doesn't work". Gynecologist I had there in the past is very condescending as well. Never coming here again, already considered changing over since I moved but after this I certainly won't be back.

I know a lot of people have left bad reviews for Neponset Health Center, but I have to say I’ve had nothing but a fantastic experience at the Women’s Health Center. So far I have only visited the Women’s Health Center (I have not had other medical needs in the 2 years I’ve been a patient at NHS) but the nurses and staff are warm, compassionate, and professional. My midwife is Raquel Vargas Vila and she is fantastic. All the nurses at the Women’s Health Clinic are also great- I highly recommend Alison Foley in particular. They have a great team at NHC and have supported me through the pregnancy and delivery of my first child, numerous illnesses, and more!! I highly recommend the NHC Women’s Health Center!!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We are so very glad you have had a good experience at Daniel Driscoll - Neponset Health Center and our Women's Health practice. They are an incredible team! Congratulations on your new family member and we look forward to continuing to care for you and your family.

Been going here my entire life, literally no problem. Don’t understand the other reviews. They seem recent which would make sense because everyone is understaffed because of covid. I was able to schedule 2 appointments one for blood and check up within a week prior. Everyone is nice fast and efficient. If you communicate what you want you will get what you want, just like a barbershop.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for your feedback and we are glad to hear that you have had a good experience at Daniel Driscoll - Neponset health center. We are also glad to hear you have been a lifelong patient!

If i could give this place zero stars, i would. Where do i begin, I went in for my “physical” this past June, i put physical in quotation because they all did was take my weight and height, then the doctor left without giving a full examine. When leaving i had book an other physical with a complete different pcp. Then, i had an appointment to get my mmr vaccine 2 months ago. they did NOT give me my mmr shot. they said it wasn’t in my notes. Which is weird bc that’s the only reason why i went. I later found out they canceled my 2nd dose appointment. I had previously informed them that i desperately need both doses due to the requirement of my job (i work with newborn/ infant). I called them to try and reschedule and they said i would need to wait until after september 25. Which i completely understand things happen and staff shortage. But this is completely neglectful. Not to mention every time you call to reschedule they are utterly rude and disrespectful. I have never in my life have seen such an unorganized health care office. There has been more incidents with this office than i can count on my fingers.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
