About First Responder Wellness

First Responder Wellness is located in Newport Beach, California. Treatment for mental health and addiction are provided. Residential and outpatient services are available. Their programs are designed to treat the specific needs of firefighters, paramedics, EMT’s, law enforcement offices and corrections officers. Insurance and worker’s compensation are accepted.

Detox will be the first step in the recovery process. During detox you’ll stay in a partially private room where you’re free from distractions. Medication assisted treatment can be provided. You will be under medical supervision and undergo a psychological assessment. During this time your individualized treatment plan will be developed. Your length of stay in detox is flexible. It will depend on your individual needs.

The residential treatment program is not in a hospital setting. You will be in a private home environment. This program is for individuals who need a structured recovery setting. It is for those who have been unsuccessful in intensive outpatient treatment and day treatment. This environment is beneficial for individuals with a history of relapse and those who struggle with dual diagnosis substance abuse and mental health disorders.

Outpatient treatment is also available. Individual and group therapy are included. Other services include chemical dependency education, relapse prevention, trauma services and a 12 Step program.

Saved my life! Many options for services but none that supports first responders like they do. Best place to learn for me was the fire pit with like minded people.

Can't say enough good things about this place and all the people that work there. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for them.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I had the privilege of attending the Wellness Coordinator Class in North Las Vegas from May 5th to 9th, and it was truly phenomenal. As the Peer Support Coordinator for a Police Department, I only wish this class had been available when I first stepped into this role four years ago. The Counseling Team delivered an incredible program filled with invaluable insights and actionable strategies. They provided a comprehensive blueprint for building or enhancing a wellness program that truly works—something every agency needs. In fact, this class should be mandatory for all First Responder Agencies developing a wellness program. The three instructors were not only knowledgeable but also deeply passionate about the subject matter. Their engagement, authenticity, and commitment to our success were evident in every session. We all walked away with an abundance of tools, ideas, and renewed purpose. I'm incredibly grateful for the guidance and support we received throughout the week. We also had the pleasure of working with First Responder Wellness as a resource when we had staff in need of their services. Their Admissions and Outreach team are incredible. They are in constant contact with you to ensure your co-worker is taken care of. They are professional, efficient and true advocates for all who enter their facility.

I spent 70 days in this program. Didnt wanna be there for 7 mins. I finally came around and settled in and it literally saved my life. Tom was a vital part of getting me in there and helping along the way. Chris Logan and his staff are the best in the business. FRS completely reset my cognitive behavior and I’m forever grateful for all of them. There is a lot I can write about and all the friendships made and fun had during my stay. It took me several years to get to a place where I knew I needed help and I’m a proud to have been thru this program, I’m better than I’ve ever been. Jim bayley

Just completed the 3 day Alumni retreat in Idyllwild. Unbelievable experience to say the least. I’d recommend any alumni from FRW to strongly consider attending this event in the future. Great way to stay connected with the FRW community and reinvigorate your recovery.

Originally I went through the FRW program in 2020 and to say it was a monumental turning point in my life is an understatement. Things had been going well until last year when 5 serious medical emergencies hit my parents back to back taking a physical and mental toll, the true extent was hidden to me. One of my buddies from my time in the program suggested we go to the retreat for a tune up and to reconnect. We did and it was fantastic! I didn’t realize how much I had been struggling and trying to maintain. How disconnected from everyone and everything, I had become. This was a much needed opportunity to open up and reconnect with my Brothers again. Kim and Chris were beyond amazing in helping me realize and work through some hidden issues that were eating me up inside. They provided clarity and space for growth and healing. Some time with my Brothers in nature did the rest, especially creekside and by the “campfire” with cigars. The retreat locale was stunningly beautiful and the food by Paula left me speechless! Truly delicious! I left there with a renewed spirit a two new law enforcement buddies. I’m thinking of making this an annual occasion to ensure I stay mentally and emotionally balanced and centered. I couldn’t recommend the experience more, especially if you are struggling or are just feeling off. Thanks to the FRW Team and especially my Brothers and Sisters in service.

I recently attended. A First Responder Wellness Alumni retreat in Idyllwild.Ca. With alumni I went through with in 2020. And new alumni I met for the 1st time. We all bonded immediately. We learned new skills, and refreshed old learnings. But important to me, was the Connection. It's wonderful that First Responder, puts these retreats on, to keep our Connection going strong. Huge shout out to our leaders. Chris and Kim, who have always been there for all of us, with compassion, strength, and Love. And continue to do so. And for the wonderful food prepared with love from our chef, Paula. I don't know what my future would have held If I didn't have the Wonderful staff, and first responders at First Responder Wellness in my life.

In my darkest hour, I found First Responder Wellness and they truly saved my life. After a 38 year public safety career, I had seen and experienced so much on so many fronts. I felt alone in my experiences and that no one could possibly understand how I felt. I had been to therapists and psychiatrists, yet did not feel like I was getting the help I needed. I called FRW and checked in a couple days later. I was immediately welcomed in by not only the staff but the other clients. It was a safe place where I found a group of fellow first responders who had similar experiences and drives that i could relate to. I found a compassionate team that supported me in making the changes i needed to make in myself to.begin to thrive again. As first responders we are the first to rush to help others but find it difficult to help ourselves. After 60 days with my new tribe at FRW, I have found purpose and drive. I found me again and I like who I am now. I have found purpose in my retirement to support fellow first responders by training and working a Peer Support / Critical Incident Stress Canine - K9 Hank is trained to detect human Cortisol, a stress hormone, and then comfort those in crisis. I recommend this program to any first responder who is struggling. They truly saved my life and even more importantly reintroduced me to me, and I like him now.

FRW is a culturally competent organization to help first responders navigate PTS. I would not be where I am today without their help in assisting me with empathy and tools to navigate forward. We do hard things! 🦬

Teal, Charlie, Roger and the team at FRW are top notch! I have sent multiple clients to this program and the communication is exceptional in getting folks set up and through the intake process and throughout the duration of programming. I nearly get an immediate response day or night when I message one of their employees and my clients have been beyond satisfied with their experiences at FRW. We are so lucky to have people that get the importance of prompt communication and a smooth process for our first responders and I highly recommend FRW for inpatient treatment needs. Their professionalism and understanding has been refreshing and I know my clients are in good hands when they are attending the programming.

As first responders, we have a tendency to take care of everyone but ourselves. If you are reading this comment and exploring mental health options you or someone you know is probably going through it. This place was exactly what I needed when I needed it. Staff was a culturally and professionally competent group of individuals from intake to discharge. The facilities and care is top notch. If you are unsure if this is what you need do yourself, your family at home and your family at work a favor and simply make a call.

First responder Wellness has been life changing and life saving for me and so many other first responders. I attended their program and have used the tools and resources to help myself and others. Their training classes have also helped my department implement successful Mental health/Wellness and peer support programs. The in house/live in program including the facility and amazing staff is the best in the industry. Culturally competent staff makes you feel at home and comfortable to be willing to share and break stigmas associated with asking for help. Great job FRW and keep up the great work!
