About Gospel Rescue Mission – Men’s Center

Gospel Rescue Mission’s Men’s Center in Tucson, Arizona, is a faith based sober living shelter. They provide temporary drug free living accommodations with a biblically rooted, holistic, and spiritual approach. They may be of particular help to homeless adult males who need a restart, beginning with confronting addiction.

This center has a focus on meeting basic human needs, which it sees at square one in the former drug user’s eventual attainment of sobriety. Guys who feel like they’ve hit rock bottom or have been sleeping rough and want to make a change may find themselves accepted and supported.
Expect individual talks with the director of the site from time to time, along with counselors and other staff. Visitors and admittees can expect free meals prepared in the kitchen to reduce the burden of any lingering financial circumstances that would cause someone to have to go to bed hungry tonight.
This center has an interesting history that goes back to the days of the famed American railroads, where the current owner’s grandfather started the program for indigent men who would hitchhike aboard trains through the area. They may also provide a food bank to the local community.

I volunteered in the kitchen area of this homeless shelter, and I was shocked by the food conditions. I was instructed to cut pieces of mold off an expired cake before serving it. When I raised concerns, the cook told me the residents "know about it" but that doesn't change the fact that it's a major health risk. After looking at other Google reviews, I see many complaints about similar issues, with the company responding, but it's obvious that nothing is actually being done to fix the problems. This is unacceptable for a place that serves vulnerable people who deserve safe, nutritious food.Honestly, experiences like this are why I'm considering leaving Tucson. The city clearly isn t taking care of its people, and it s frustrating to see the same problems ignored over and over.

The residents (guests) receive benefits well over the value of their hours worked. The quality and standards of the Mission are the highest I've ever heard of and those standards produce amazing and transformed members of society. Even volunteers and staff members lives are wildly improved by learning to be better people, but the sole dedication is to God who asks for care to the homeless. Change is rapid to constantly improve toward that vision

They waste your time, order you around, force you to work for free almost like mocking you for the one thing you need the most. They don't share the WiFi, making it impossible to learn a new skill or run a business or apply to jobs online. They take your essentials when you check in and don't have the resources to replace them (towels, razors, etc). They made me quit my political canvasser job saying I wouldn't get paid. I did get paid and I would have been able to end this hell of poverty, but they threatened to short list me and continue to depend on them. They are full of themselves for "helping", but they gaslight and scapegoat you. It becomes a revolving door, temporarily alleviating a problem rather than fixing the problem at it's source. One of the staff forced me to say I had a mental illness. Apparently you can't be poor unless you are also mentally ill and on drugs. So now your feelings don't matter, and nothing you say can be trusted because you're mentally ill. All the attention becomes focused on your own behavior and "what you need to do to change." Straight up gaslighting and scapegoating you until you're so deep into learned helplessness you have to rely on the system for everything.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we re truly sorry that you felt this way during your stay. At Gospel Rescue Mission, our goal is to provide not just shelter, but real, lasting change for those facing homelessness. That often means setting structure and guidelines that help individuals regain stability, find work, and build a self-sufficient future. We understand that it can be difficult. Our policies such as chores and structured environments are designed to empower individuals rather than create dependency. The opportunities provided are never intended to be exploitative but rather a means to develop ownership, build confidence, and re-establish responsibility. Regarding WiFi, while we do have restrictions on private networks, we offer assistance with job applications, skill-building, and employment searches through resources available on-site. We encourage our guests to take advantage of these. As for personal belongings, we do require a check-in for safety reasons, and we have a rigorous sanitation process to prevent bugs or viruses from entering the facility, but we strive to provide anything that may be needed. If there was a shortfall in that regard, we sincerely apologize. We also deeply regret any misunderstanding regarding your job. Our goal is always to help guests become self-sufficient, and we never intend to stand in the way of someone earning a living. If there was a miscommunication, we d welcome the chance to discuss and learn from it. At the heart of our mission is transformation helping individuals become whole. That requires personal growth, which is why we emphasize change and self-improvement, which can be hard. If you d be open to it, we d love to hear from you directly to better understand your concerns and find ways to improve. Please feel free to reach out. Wishing you all the best on your journey forward.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Someone was asking and showing a pic of me around the shelter. I went to ask if I could find out if whoever left a message for me. I was told "We can't do that. We can't tell you who's looking for you or check if they left a note!" So, I will NEVER go there again since they DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO UTILIZE THEIR SHELTERS SAFETY!

I've given in the past. But just watching on KGUN 12/10-11/2024 of the food drive and seeing expensive range rover in line waiting for food! A brand new pickup truck also waiting for food. Rich people taking free food meant for the poor and destitute. Shameful! No more donations from me. I'm not feeding the rich anymore.

We thank you for your support and understand how seeing vehicles like those you described might feel disheartening. However, it’s important to remember that appearances can be misleading. A vehicle might not reflect someone’s current financial situation. For example, some individuals may have owned their vehicles before experiencing unexpected hardships such as medical bills, job loss, or other life-altering events. Our mission is to serve anyone in need, regardless of their circumstances, and to ensure that no one goes hungry. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
