If you’re expecting peace and calm these people are too disorganized and dysregulated themselves to help you seek it. They’re nice enough but the road to hell is paved with good intentions and these people do not have their shit together.

Accepted Insurance

LSA Recovery at Interborough Counseling Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) are typically either in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that increases their relapse risk. These programs promote clients' sustained sobriety through robust support, including multiple, extended care sessions per week. Intensive outpatient treatment often encompasses an array of services, including psychotherapy, recovery education, and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and meditation. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Terrible. been coming here for months the psychs are disconnected, do not care, and just wanna push you out the door as soon as possible. you can speak about issues for months and get zero help for it. their therapists seem like they don't know what to even do, and when you call to try and reach anyone in charge, you get the runaround. should be illegal to operate like this. while using hashtags like "#youmatter" on their about section, i have never felt a mental health provider feel less empathy in my life. dr.barsky seems completely disconnected, no empathy, and outright rude, like REALLY rude. always late, made me feel like I was lying about my issues, therapist literally just goes "wow that sucks" over and over dr barsky even suggest electroshock therapy to a friend. when asked to switch psychs for weeks, ignored, complained about anxiety for MONTHS, ignored, tried to call a supervisor, ignored. these people are going to kill someone with their lack of empathy and professionalism.

Response from the owner

I had an appointment scheduled and from the start things felt sketchy. They didn’t even want to disclose the provider’s name until I pressed them for it. I even followed up to ask about my Zoom link and was assured I’d get a call instead. That call never came. I sat around waiting for nothing, completely wasting my time. Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Response from the owner
Hi Ariella,

Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate it and take all concerns seriously. The provider you’re scheduled with should be confirmed at the time of booking. According to our records, you’re currently enrolled in the intake process. Please give us a call so we can review your situation and work toward a resolution together.

I’m really frustrated with the way the front desk at this office operates. We’re not calling to ask for money or personal favors — we’re simply trying to get the help we need from our specialist. But most of the time, no one even picks up the phone. And when someone finally does, they cut you off mid-sentence, don’t listen, and act like they just want to get rid of you. It feels like they don’t care at all. It’s stressful enough to be in a situation where you need help — being treated this way only makes things worse. I truly hope someone in charge sees this and takes it seriously.

Response from the owner
Dear Malika,

We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience with our front desk team. What you described is not acceptable and does not reflect the level of respect and attentiveness we aim to provide. We understand how important it is to feel heard and supported, especially when seeking care.

Please know that your feedback is being taken seriously. We are actively addressing these concerns with our team to ensure better communication and responsiveness moving forward. If you are open to it, we’d appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly and learn more so we can make things right.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Do not get help for anything here. The front desk staff on the 2nd floor are rude and disrespectful. I was told to stop talking and wait fr Natasha to be done. Like who does this woman think she is. I am not her child. I am a grown woman. They are not organized at all. I went through meet with 3 people in one day a therapist peer and case manager. They were nice but when I went to meet with a case manager there wasn’t a 5 others in one office all meeting with other clients in r on the phone with clients. This is a HUGE HIPAA VIOLATION. First no one should know who I am meeting with other then that person and the front desk, there should not be 4 other clients on n the same room as me. Then on top of it they are asking if I want to hurt myself who in the right mind would answer that honestly when there are 9 other people n the room. Then I asked for help with food stamps you want me to provide you with all that information to it loud NOPE NOT ME. While with peer her mom gone had to ring 8 times while I was with her it’s disrespectful and distracting. Yes she apologized and felt bad but that’s not the point no more ne should be calling when a client is with someone Period. Unless there is a real crisis but even then what are they going to do forget about me and go help like my issues are not important to them. They way this company is ran is backwards. My friend has been through 4 drug counselors in less then 6 months which lets me know even the employees don’t stay. SO RUN WHILE YOU CAN AND DO NOT COME HERE FOR HELP.

Been going here for years, some of the therapists are not licensed and they misunderstand things you say and DOCUMENT them. I’m going to complain and ask that some of these things be removed. ALWAYS ask for your records to keep up with your information. And always remember, these therapists are not your friends. The front desk has always been very polite to me except maybe twice. I’m not sure if I recommend or not. I do love the telehealth, no traveling is amazing for me because I’m injured.

Response from the owner
Dear Tawana,

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing both the positives and areas of concern from your experience. We’re pleased to know telehealth has been beneficial for you, and we’re sorry for any misunderstandings or concerns related to documentation. We welcome you to reach out so we can discuss your concerns directly.
