About KP Counseling – Linden Road

KP Counseling – Linden Road is a psychiatric therapy center located in Rockford, Illinois. They treat people for many different mental health conditions including substance use disorder (SUD) and alcohol use disorder. They treat people of all ages who suffer from a mental health condition and addiction issues concurrently. They are an outpatient facility. They also offer home counseling services which is a good option for children or homebound clients.

After scheduling your first appointment, you will have an intake assessment to help your care team determine which therapeutic method will work best for you. Most of the clients engage in both group and individual therapy.

The clinic looks at substance issues as chronic brain conditions. They can provide you with medically assisted treatment to help ease the physical and emotional pain associated with withdrawal.

The therapists here use several different evidence-based methods to treat clients. They may try different methods before finding one that is right for you.

They use behavioral therapy to teach you how to look at your life in a more positive way so you can stop behaving in a way that stifles you. They might also use solution based therapy which lets you set goals for yourself. The therapist will ask questions designed to show you what solutions to problems have worked for you in the past.

They offer family therapy sessions. People often do not realize the way addiction can affect their loved ones. Family members of people with substance use disorder can also benefit from a therapist’s guidance when trying to help a family member with addiction issues.

I truly hate having to do this. We've been with this practice for 5 years. Stay away from this practice. They have sold out to a corporate company and everything went downhill VERY fast. We had 5 counselors for 4 people. My counselor left already. The amount of work it was to transition with them was a nightmare. My husband went to take our youngest to an appointment this evening to be told they don't have any appointments for him this year at all. I literally have a printout from their office with all his appointments for the beginning of this year. They bumped him, because they scheduled over, and I can't get hold of anyone in the office, because they've made it so no one actually answers the phone in their office anymore. Stay far away from here, it's a mess.

Asked if my insurance covered the cost on my 1st appointment and was told yes. 2nd appointment and I was given a bill for $161.00. The total was $612.00 for a meet and greet which did absolutely nothing for my grieving.. stay far away from this place!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT can help someone replace thoughts that lead to low self-esteem with positive expectations. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Family therapy sessions teach you skills to deepen family connections and survive stressful times in life. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I started going to them sometime last year and everything was great until my counselor stated that she was going to be leaving. I wished her the best of luck and transferred over to Amanda. I went to her a couple of times, but ended of being let go from my current job which ended my insurance. I had another insurance carrier that they didn't take, I told them no problem and to just cancel my future appointments. They continued to keep my appointments and then charge me a no show fee. They're terrible getting back to anyone. I have called and called, left voicemails, and have attempted to reach them via contact on their website and no one has answered. I am very frustrated and now I am upset that I can't get back into my counselor and have to find a new one that I can trust now. I am extremely frustrated and upset.

We’ve had awful experiences with this place. Established patients wait weeks/months until they can see their therapist. 2 out of 3 therapists we’ve seen have been bad at their jobs or very unprofessional (15 minutes late with no apology). We don’t feel cared for, just that they’re out to make money.

Making money seems to be the objective here. I understand that at the end of the day, this is a business and serves as the livelihood of the employees. However, the actions of these “professionals” have very REAL WORLD CONSEQUENCES for their patients. This fact seems absolutely lost on certain staff. Gale is clearly not educated in narcissistic abuse. The two counselors I’ve been to since have been flabbergasted by this woman’s audacity when I share the story of how she treated me. Gale’s behavior was not only unprofessional, but DANGEROUS considering the family dynamics. She is an absolute disgrace, as is KP counseling as a whole. DO BETTER!

THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT MONEY! They told me I was covered, then billed me anyway. I thought it must be a mistake. Then, when I drove 50 miles for my second appointment, they told me to get lost when I couldn't pay the bill for my first visit. I'm 60 years old. I have never in my life had a worse experience at a mental health clinic. PLEASE NOTE: all any of the negative reviews here get, is a canned response which tells you, "We do to care." If they cared, they wouldn't be treating their patients like piggy banks and responding to complaints with impersonal, canned garbage.

The owner of this place looks like a washed up former wrestler. They always give the same standard response to low ratings.

Couldn’t even make an appointment. The woman I spoke to, to attempt to make an appointment on Thursday 4/28, around 2:00 needs to be fired. When working in the mental health field, callers emotions should definitely be taken into consideration. I attempted to make an appointment for couples counseling, but I couldn’t give my partners insurance info and I know he will not call to give it, so I offered to pay out of pocket instead, she refused to make the appointment and said “if there’s insurance we should really get that information”.. I said okay I guess We’ll try to call back thanks.. and then she hung up on me. This was my second appointment attempt, the first I didn’t get an answer at all.
