Horrible service!! After being taken in from an ambulance, I was seated in the waiting room where I waited for 4 HOURS to be seen only for them to dismiss me. Went to another hospital the next day and they found the issue and treated me properly! Forbes hospital is a joke. And if you're black DO NOT GO THERE!! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU

Had a scheduled CT angiogram today and couldn t be happier with the experience. Scheduled for 10:30, was told to arrive by 9:30. There was a line at the registration desk but moved quickly. Everyone was friendly, patient and kind. Was taken back for my procedure and greeted by the nicest nurse, Marguerite. She took care of me the whole time. I was cold, anxious and a bit out of it and I felt very well taken care of. She brought me warm blankets and water and explained everything that was going to occur through my visit. She made a stressful situation so much better and felt like someone who truly cared about me took care of me today. Cannot be more thankful and grateful for the care I received today. Thank you, Marguerite! also, my procedure was scheduled for 10:30 and I was done and out of there at 10:25!! Wow, that NEVER happens.

Accepted Insurance

Forbes Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Because the severity of withdrawal symptoms can fluctuate, constant monitoring under 24-hour clinical care in Pennsylvania is recommended for early recovery. As you undergo detox, medical staff will supervise your health and ensure severe symptoms do not develop or threaten your life. Professional counselors will also be available to treat mental and emotional health needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Family therapy teaches individual family members in Pennsylvania the benefits of collectively combating addiction. Therapists help individual members establish healthy boundaries between themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction. This helps improve emotional support systems and creates a bond so families work together to sustain long term recovery.

The goal of nutrition therapy is to help you understand how your diet affects your overall health. It teaches you healthy eating habits, which speed up your recovery and give you the nutrients you need for long term physical and mental health.

Incorporating recreational therapy into drug and alcohol addiction programs in Pennsylvania helps you rebuild your life and maintain sobriety by discovering new interests and developing healthy coping mechanisms. Recreational activities can include painting, team sports, and hiking to promote physical and mental health.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Worst ER in the Pittsburgh area. My 78 year old dad was in tonight for heart concerns and he sat in the waiting area for 3+ hours. He was not given a room, was not put on monitors, just sitting in the waiting room with all the people coughing everywhere. This is unethical practice for a hospital. If you want good quality Healthcare don't go to Forbes ER. You will not get quality care there.

I used to move Forbes. It was the only hospital I would go to. Now I avoid it! I will never go too the ER there again. A couple of years ago I was having really bad problem with my toe. I was put in an area that had recliner chairs lines up with nothing but a curtain between each chair. No privacy at all. Drs and nurses would whisper to me for privacy. Other patients were yelling and flipping out on nurses. Ridiculous I had to sit through that. I have been hearing how dirty the hospital is from other patients. I recently went for xrays of my shoulder. The xray tech was very inexperienced. Took forever for each xray. Injured shoulder and she had me hold my arm in a very painful position for ever. Then she didn't download the disk like it should have been. I took the disk to my Dr to find nothing was on it. I will never go to Forbes again.

My mom was admitted with a necrotic toe ulcer and vascular was no longer an option. Amputation was next. The room was filthy, absolutely disgusting. She wasn't given any grippy socks to walk in the floor, not that she would want to. She has a serious wound on her toe with bone exposed and is put in a room I wouldn't even let a stray dog lay on. I've seen cleaner barn floors. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately, my mom left AMA to go to another hospital. No wonder patients are getting MRSA and infections. Photo provide.

I was there for a suicide attempt via pills and alcohol. I was left unattended for almost an hour while severely dehydrated. The nurse that was supposed to keep an eye on me was condescending, and made my attempt out to be a joke. I was released within 4 hours and my mother threatened to sue for neglegence

Came in through the ER...The nurses here have zero compassion, the room was filthy-trash in the cans were half full. Only ONE DOCTOR was here. We waited OVER SEVEN MINUTES for someone to respond to the nurse call. Then when the nurse did come, she wouldn't speak, explain the steps or anything. She'll just scan the wristband and wait for us to ask her what she's administering. I'll never ever choose this hospital over UPMC Shadyside again. Never.

Little history, I have been a nurse and an administrator in healthcare for over 20 yrs. I am highly disappointed in the lack of care and compassion I received at FORBES hospital in Monroeville Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania, who I once held a very high respect for from a past surgery I had in 2022 that gave me my mobility to walk free of pain and stability without risk of falls or injuries from a genetic hip disorder which cause me to suffer with many years of pain. I commend FORBES for the surgery performed to replace my faulty joint back in the summer of 2022. They were one of the only who would take a chance on my hip which was more involved than planned due to my femur being abnormally small and narrow in size.As a result of experiencing pain, hearing some clicking and grinding with mobility, pain in the groin region, flank area , a rash which covers my lower extremities, nausea, blurry vision with sensitivity to light and ringing in my ears. I made an appointment with FORBES ortho who instructed me to visit the emergency room should my symptoms persist and get worse. On April 11, 2025 I decided to go to the emergency room and I chose FORBES since I had a great past experience with them. Only to be disheartened by a bunch of medical staff who has No people skills care or compassion. I was admitted but no one would keep me informed as to findings on my tests or why they were doing certain tests and procedures. I was told all my testing was coming back normal and no worries but they wanted to keep me for observation and put a heart monitor on me for the night.I did have elevated blood work prior to my visit. They mentioned Lupus but stated they could not treat me for anything resulting from that.I would have to see immunology and it was doubtful they would consult with me before my stay at FORBES was complete. The ran numerous imaging test .They stated they were treating the tinnitus and blurred vision Which they could not understand because my tests were not showing anything That seemed to point them in a direction asked to Why it was happening. After being placed in a room right before shift change.I was hooked up to A saline bolus to flush the contrast from my system.I was told to keep my arm straight so it could quickly run. While being flushed, a tray A food was placed in front of me,I was told to fill out paperwork completely And a nurse was talking to me through a television and asking me if she could call me on a white telephone and I was trying to keep my arm straight But had to contend with an occluded IV line which nobody would tend to at shift change.I was feeling very overwhelmed at that point and began to wonder what was going on. I was offered medication’s to manage my pain which I refused Because I did not want to chance masking one symptom due to how I was feeling.I did take 5 mg of melatonin to help me rest along with my regular ordered medication. At midnight, the cleaning Man came into the room and began cleaning the other half and stayed in the room until about 2 AM when they brought in another patient to utilize the room. While the cleaning man was keeping me up, I decided to look at my MyChart. After continually going over my medication’s with the TV nurse ( so personable)and making updates with the TV nurse, I noticed my medication list Was not updated as I had told her the only medication I take daily as prescribed by my PCP is one pill that is given two times a day they had Several listed that I do not take. When in the ER, I was honest about my pain management and admitting to eating a marijuana gummy to manage when it was intolerable. In the diagnoses portion of my, my chart It stated I was being treated for marijuana use on my permanent record. My hip pain was listed last In my diagnoses. My blood work was coming back elevated on my CBC with Diff And they failed to tell me About a suspected aneurysm on my carotid artery. After getting no sleep and seeing what was happening, I signed out of the hospital at 2:30 AM. My honesty was my punishment. Happy to give more details on my experience
